Good points Andy, but I’m a 5x5 guy too. Thanks for taking the time to present your case!
-
Sorry, I prefer the 5x5 scoring system as well.

Yeah, I know I just joined this league like 10 minutes ago, but I did it because it's 5x5. I actively avoid fangraphs points leagues.
Old school is quirky and all but it's the most fun.
-
Nope. I signed up for 5x5. Anything else and Im out. sorry.

Final Date of Vote: Jan 31, 2023
Successful Change: A majority would have to agree for the change to take effect for the 2023 season.

Under the Old School method, a 9th place team, for example, might be ‘tuned’ out by August. He leaves injured players, etc in his lineup, allowing owners to leap-frog him in certain categories. The final standings shouldn’t depend on the in-action of the 9th place team.
In fact, under the point-based system, the 9th place team can continue re-building his team for next year without worrying that he might be affecting the overall standings.

For relief pitchers, too much weight is given to Closers and their “Saves”. Not enough weight is given to competent relievers who can “hold” a game.
The heavy weighting of these statistics, don’t reflect a player’s “true value” in real life.
5. Competition Aspect (i.e Contenders vs Non-contenders).
As mentioned above, using a Points Based system allows the top contenders to truly battle it out amongst themselves for the championsh

The 1st and 2nd place owners should battle it out without having to worry about the relative rank of the 9th place team.
4. Too much weight is given to the Classic Stat categories.
For hitters, categories such as “Stolen Bases” are giving too much weight. No weight is given to a hitter’s ability to draw walks. For starting pitchers, too much weight is given to Wins.

3. Old systems use ‘Team Averages’ and ‘Relative Rankings’.
Old systems use the awkward team average categories of “Bat Avg”, “ERA” and “WHIP”.
Old systems are also based on ‘Relative Rankings’. Let’s look at example. The 1st place owner is ahead of the 2nd place owner in the “ERA” category. The 9th place team sits between these two teams in the “ERA” category. In the old ‘Relative Rankings’ system, this ranking determines the final standings.

1. Old School (5x5) is well …. OLD
In the active Ottoneu leagues, 235 of the 350 leagues (67%) have already moved on from the Old Scoring systems to the modern point systems.
2. Points systems use actual Points
The FanGraphs Points (see https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/scoringoptions) are based on individual 'raw points' that are awarded and appropriately weighted per category. I feel this is a better determination of value of each player on a team ver

Proposed Motion: Change in Scoring System.
This is a motion to change our league's scoring system,
FROM "Old School (5x5)"
TO "FanGraphs Points"
Historically, Rotisserie leagues were based on the Old School/Classic 5x5 and 4x4 methods due to ease of calculations. I believe it’s time to modernize and move to a points based system. I’ll submit my thoughts below…

Thanks! Hit me up if y'all want to make some trades. I could shed some money or maybe just swap some players we value differently. Bergman otb!

Welcome Tyler, the new owner of the Chiants. I think we have someone interested in Sliding into First so we should be back to 12. Reminder, the keeper deadline is JANUARY 31!
-
We are. Thanks Andy!
-
Are we looking for new owners?
My brother-in-law might be interested. I can ask him.

Hey Guys -- I have decided to not play any fantasy baseball this year. Good Luck Everyone on the up coming year. Glen (chiants)

Google Otteneu auction calculator. I thing Otteneu is a very hard site to navigate. I generally just google it and it takes me right there. There are a few parameters to enter but the final result is worth it.

Reminder - arbitration is now open. Go to "Arbitration" and you will see "Overview." Click on that to get a drop-down menu of all teams. You have about a month to do this. This is an important part of supporting league parity so make sure you do it.

Congrats to all the winners this year! I hope to see you all back again for 2023 ball! Have a great offseason everyone. (be kind to me at arbitration)

LOL. wow, a tie.
Congrats, Glen and Shawn.

No tiebreakers? BOO! Baseball doesn't have tie games? Seriously though Congrats!
-
Congrats to our co-winners- Bang the Drum and Chiants! There is no tie breaking provision in this league. I’ll be in touch regarding prize money in the coming week. Thanks to everyone for your participation. Start thinking about arbitration!
-
No offence taken. I thought it was an apt comment!
-
sorry. The dollarama was a bad joke. I apologize.
-
I have been asked, "why do you do that?".
My response: "Sir, this isn't a Dollarama." LOL.
Seriously though, it's nothing personal. It's simply a strategy play on my part.
-
No worries Andy. Thanks for the heads up.

I see that there are a number of players currently up for auction, that I'm hoping to bid on.
Just an fyi, I'm boarding a ship shortly and will have no internet connection for possibly 4 days. If I win any auctions, my roster will be in an invalid state for this period of time. I will correct this invalid state as soon as I can get a cellular signal or arrive back into port. thx.

The whole concept of the league I thought was to take away the Yanks and Dodgers type of play. I have sat back and tried to figure out how this good for the league and I just don't see it. I can see how it benefits certain teams but not the league. There must be a good reason ottoneu has this rule in so I bow to their wisdom. All is good. Good Luck Everyone.
-
So in the interest of fairness, I'll play Devil's advocate. This latest trade probably rubs some people the wrong way as I had the cap space to do it without using a loan, but insisted on it anyway. Also they are not suggesting getting rid of the loan process altogether, just capping it. If the cap was say $100, I would have been able to do all my trades this year, as long as I didn't take a loan on this last one. All that being said, I think there's more wisdom in the process than people know.
-
(im not interested in a vote at all) This is too big of a feature of Otteneu to take away.

Ottoneu was designed to mirror the economics of real baseball. Think of what the Padres did with Hosmer recently. Giving loans is a powerful tool - teams that do it should make sure they are rewarded accordingly.
-
The argument doesnt make sense to me. Its mostly the teams competing for the top 5 spots that are using incoming outgoing loans. If they want my $60 Soto and Im providing a $20 loan to them. So be it. Chances are that the player they are receiving with the loan will be dropped after arb. Hopefully the manager trading Soto gets a nice return of talent in exchange. If the players at the bottom of the pool are serious about improving their team this only makes sense to do.

It would appear that we have two groups.
a) Some owners like the excitement of more trades (that the Incoming/Outgoing loans provide)
b) Some owners like the integrity of a salary cap (which would probably result in fewer trades)
-
I'm not sure I understand the issue, don't you need another owner to offer you a loan via trade, in order to increase your $400 dollar budget?
I mean, I've had some terrible trade offers where someone wants me to pick up a large sum of faab (for nothing) but I treat that like real teams do, which is I use extra money like an asset. If you want me to give you a loan on faab, then I need some incentives to do so. I personally love this rule, makes it unique.

Ok I get it, but I think your thinking of it much too small. Without loans, trades early on in the year would be nearly impossible and trades later in the year wouldn't be meaningful. The point of them is to not let a players dollar amount get in the way of their actual value. There's other cool applications of loans we haven't had the chance to use yet too. Trading for a seriously overvalued player, just to drop him in order to gain cap space for one. Loans are what keep players moving.
-
I don't think I can explain it any better than A van down by the river did. It seems to go against everything else the rules are trying to do with a hard salary cap but then you blow it open with loaning money making the salary cap mute. So unless you can find an owner willing to do the same type of trade you are left with a $400 cap vs a $500 cap. Tough to compete against. Just a rule I would like to see tweaked.
-
What is the issue with the loaning feature of Otteneu? Am I missing something?
Its what makes this format unique.

.....By the way this is nothing against anyone who utilizes this feature. I would do the same under similar circumstances. The option is there when you make a trade, why not use it....... And on that note, I am going to propose a vote on Oct 31st to ask owners if they want to keep the Incoming/Outgoing Loan rule or not, for next season.
-
The Ottoneu league rules have been carefully crafted, such that you must manage your $400 salary cap. You need decide what your bidding on each player. Plus you need to decide whether to keep a player
or not after the Oct 15 Arbitration allocations.....I Love All of this about the Ottoneu League........ and then
.....Ottoneu blows it with the Incoming and Outgoing Loans rule. :( I really hate this 'feature' of Ottoneu. Suddenly, owners don't need to really worry about the $400 ca
-
Is there a league setting to maximize the amount of incoming loans a team can have?
-
What's funny is you often drop the player you pick up, it's just too late for the rest of us to put them back out before the week starts. So we have to pick between overpaying to claim them or not having the player that week. As most of these guys are week to week dependant, the players often don't get put back out. It really is like you have 80 players on your roster with the stipulation once you send one down to the minors, you have to wait 30 days to bring them back up.
-
LOL. yes, I've been a bit of a "bully" lately. It all started when I couldn't find a trade for Juan Soto. Next, Dropping Soto, and flush with cash, I continued down this horrible path by bidding up the price of the Auction players. sorry. ;)
-
Man, clearing all that space has allowed Andy to pretty much hold the entire FAAB hostage for the better part of a month. I wonder what the record for transactions in Ottoneu is?
-
You envisioned a non- injured Juan Soto being dropped in June, and it not being a mistake? Credit to Andy to figuring out one of the secrets of this league.
-
This is exactly what I envision. Dedicated owners that try to better their team if not win!!
