Looks like everyone has renewed for the upcoming season! Thank you all for making this such a stress free deadline! A few reminders; the deadline to make trades and cut players is 23:59 tomorrow, trades accepted before the deadline will still process the following day, and all rosters must be legal when the deadline passes (a legal roster is defined as being under $400 with at least $1 in cap room per empty roster spot). Thanks and good luck with your remaining keeper decisions!
-
Appreciate the strong response to Urbina's message about the keeper deadline. Only waiting on two owners at this point. Remember, if you do not renew by the deadline, the system will automatically abandon your team and you may not be able to reclaim it. Please be sure to renew in advance of or when you do your cuts. I'll send out dates and times for the draft once we pass the deadline.
-
Looks like the stove is back on!
-
Hi everybody, we are now just over a week from the upcoming keeper deadline. Please remember that in addition to trades and cuts, this is also the deadline to renew your team. Looks like we have just under half that has already renewed, but if we could get everyone to do so ASAP, it will save DJIB and me a lot of stress chasing you down. Much appreciated!

Gavin Sheets is a free agent so you'll have to pay up for him at the auction to lock up that market.
-
And now the MiLB Gavin market too!
-
I've inadvertantly cornered the MLB Gavin market
-
Reminder, arbitration ends in one week! Thanks to most teams who have already allocated and a reminder to those who haven't. Get your trade talks in now so that we can start the trading season with a bang!
-
a separate Paydala account. If you only use Paydala as a payment processor, then you do not have an account and will not be subject to the fee.
-
I just renewed my team for 2024 with Paydala. The process is straightforward, however you need to have location services allowed when initiating the transaction. I recommend looking through the following blog post to understand the Paydala transition: https://community.ottoneu.com/t/payment-updates/13220/20?u=nivshah
There is also language in the Paydala terms of service about an "inactivity fee". I emailed Niv and he confirmed that this fee does not apply to Ottoneu owners wh

umm, Paydala I mean. Autocorrect error from being on mobile.
-
PS I have not used PayPal before but I will look into it.

Welcome! I can confirm you are now the new owner of TTBNL. Happy to have you in the league. For everyone else, this now makes all 12 teams accounted for, so we are full steam ahead for trade season to begin in about 2 weeks. Be sure to get your arbitration in! I'll check back to remind and stragglers when the deadline approaches.
-
Hello, everyone. I'm not sure if I properly claimed TTBNL, but I'd like to join the league. I tried to pay to extend, but I wasn't able to do so on Paydala. Thanks!
-
Welcome to our new owner of the team fka Dansby Swanson. Alex is a former coworker of mine and a very knowledgeable and active fantasy player, glad to have him as part of the league

I'm down to finish middle of the pack again.

Twosies is returning next year, thanks everyone for a great season and reviewing all my trade offers!

I'll be back as well
-
Iām back! Thanks Dansby. Enjoyed having you in this league!
-
Thanks for your years of participation, Dansby! You will be missed.
In the meantime, maybe this is a good moment to begin gauging interest for 2024. Could everyone please confirm via message board or inbox what their intentions are for next year. We have begun looking for replacements for Dansby so it would be helpful to know how many other teams need replacing so new owners can make an informed decision on which team to claim. Thanks!
-
I have decided not to return next year. Wish everyone the best.

Thanks, can't say I wasn't worried only two weeks ago when Urbina was surging, JAGF was going strong, and my starters couldn't make it past the 5th. I was very lucky with pitching health all year, a couple injuries here and there and the outcome might have been different. Looking forward to next year!
-
Congratulations, DJIB! Masterfully done yet again. Enjoy the wild card round, everyone! We'll be in touch shortly regarding 2024 planning.
-
Olson and Riley, I don't think anybody else was gonna catch that lol
-
Congrats DJIB on going back to back, and not making it close.
-
I think Pfaadt is our most claimed player ever.
-
I have to agree with David Justice is blind, when we try to manage by exception or special ruling, we could get in a mess in future years
-
Ugh. I am at a loss for words. I hope this is nothing, but how often has that actually ended up as the outcome. As it relates to this league, I would look back to how we handled Trevor Bauer, Marcell Ozuna, Roberto Ozuna, etc., and in those cases we did not provide any special treatment for those players. If it goes to the level of prison or a lifetime ban from the sport we can revisit, but I am of the opinion that the cut penalty is the risk we take with any player, regardless of the reason.
-
like an injury (ideally like a 60-day IL spot, but that's not a big deal to me and would probably need programmed in by Shiv's team). But if they're on the restricted list, I feel like the closest equivalent would be a penalty free cut. I would say then that player could be auctioned by anyone at any time for a min of $1; if a player is legal to be rostered, I don't see any reason why someone shouldn't be able to pick him up and any owner that doesn't want to roster someone doesn't have to.
-
Well, that's awesome news. Given that my team is directly impacted by this, feel free to ignore my thoughts. But if the idea is Ottoneu as close as fantasy gets to running an MLB team, I'd look to the different statuses a player can be on to determine what happens. If a players is on administrative leave, they are off the roster but still paid. But if they get placed on the restricted list, they're not paid or on the roster. So I feel like the equivalent would be administrative leave is

in all likelihood, we are in for a bit of a wait until MLB does their due diligence and issues a ruling, so we have some time to discuss and come up with a reasonable policy. does anyone here have an opinion on how to handle this or any future ethical concerns?
-
glossing over the endive situation, the recent Wander Franco news might be an opportune time for us to discuss this league's policy towards DV and similar ethical issues. my thoughts on the matter are that an owner should be given the option to wash their hands entirely of a player and drop him without cap penalty, similar to how player deaths are treated. of course this begs the question of whether that player can be reactioned and if so, at what price.
-
Is the person I was messaging years ago about endive still in this league? I'm eating some insane endive right now.
-
Our rosters are based on the MLB 40-man rosters, and the extra roster spot for 60IL players is based on the same rule that exists in IRL baseball. Painter isn't on the 40-man so the Phils don't get an extra spot, therefore you don't either. I have to admit, I don't know what would happen if he was on the 40-man but still MiLB. Would introduce an interesting gray area that could challenge the rule and maybe open a loophole.
-
Sorry to be late to the party. This point was raised immediately on Skack and the community message boards after Niv implemented the feature. You have a fair point, Drew. From a game perspective it doesn't make much sense, but in this case it comes down to the founding ethos of the platform: "The intention of this league is to mimic the job of an actual general manager as closely as possible." (first line of the rules)
-
Fair enough. I still don't think it makes a ton of sense for the real life 40 man to come into play. We have our own 40 man rosters to contend with. So I suppose I acknowledge the rule, but I fail to see the logic behind it.
-
That's the response I received from Niv

-
Doesn't hurt to ask. There's a whole bunch of COVID language in the rules as well, so they probably haven't been reviewed in a while.
-
By which I mean, even if Painter wasn't on the Phillies 40 man when he went down, he is on the Escape Pod 40 man -- so a 60 day IL stint wherever he's at would logically call for the roster spot to open.
-
I guess it's worth clarifying? I'm not sure how it works in the real world with someone who is on the 40 man but not in the majors. That's essentially the analogue to our situation right? Painter's profile on the MiLB website does specify that he's on some kind of 60 day IL.
-
They way the Ottoneu rule is written, there's no distinction between MLB and MiLB IL. And I'm not sure there even is a 60 day MiLB IL. The 60 day functions to temporarily remove a player from the 40 man when they're out for an extended period. Maybe something that was created out of necessity when they contracted the minors and instituted stricter MiLB roster rules. Drew, do you want Jeff or I to reach out to Niv? I think they should clarify in the rule book one way or the other.
-
Unfortunately, MiLB 60day does still cost a roster slot
-
A query: anybody know whether players on the minor league 60 day IL also shouldn't count against the 40 man for our purposes? Reviewing the rules they state generally that players on the 60 day IL don't count against the spots limit but it doesn't touch on minors vs. majors. I've got Painter on the MiLB 60 day (he has the little notation next to his name) but he's still taking up a roster spot. Perhaps that's just the way it is but figured I'd inquire.
