I wasn't aware you already had five players. I assumed since you were making a big deal of it that you had a pick.
NO PICK FOR YOU!

I'm sorry. I really don't mean to be a jerk. I just want to understand, so that I fully comprehend what rules I (we) am playing by. Are you saying I am going to get a pick? I was under the impression my MiLB roster is full at five. If this was debated at length and agreed upon, I am sure there are good reasons for it. Perhaps I just need to dig through the message archives and I can find the discussion and final agreement?
-
Alex Freeland
Is eligible to be drafted in the milb draft. I will drop him from whatever team wins the auction without penalty.

So there is a penalty for bringing up your guys and clearing space for the draft--they cost roster and money. There is a penalty for cutting guys before the MiLB draft (to open up draftable slots)--you don't have those guys anymore.
-
That is why there are no picks until everyone has filled empty spots below 4. The lone exception (I believe) is if someone ends up (via trade) with more than 4 MiLB guys, then you can start the season with as many as you've acquired, but still no draft slots.
-
Yeah I;m pretty sure the think was the starting point for the season would be 4 MiLB players. If you chose to pay the short-term penalty and bring your guys up before the draft, then you lose those roster spots and pay the $1, but get to add more guys. If you like your guys more than the FA MiLB guys, and/or don't want to spend the roster or or cap space, then great but you don't get to add to your preseason MiLB staring number (4)...
-
If you want you can tell me who to pick when it's my turn and I'll tell you who to pick when it's your turn and then after the draft we could trade them.

It was important in years that had a talented group of players. But even then the better minor leaguers iget picked up in the first part of the draft.
If it makes that much difference to you, you could switch with me I pick right after daMets

I would presume they "only have three" because "prospects" graduated to their MLB roster (management success) and/or were deemed failed picks and arbitrarily released from the minor league roster (management failure). I fail to understand how "catching up" is "fair" by either measure and I find it difficult to fathom that such a backward policy was agreed upon by the majority at the time of its implementation. I have never heard of such a policy in any kin
-
Well if you have four players already and some people only have three don't you think it's fair that they catch up

I realize I am new here, but this all seems awful confusing. Is this minor league draft/roster concept written out anywhere that can be perused for comprehensive understanding? And am I correct in interpreting that if I one minor league spot open, I would have to wait until the 5th round of the draft to fill it? That sure doesn't seem fair, and I would be curious to learn the rationale behind that concept. Thank you in advance for educating me.

I agree, I do believe we said they can have had a salary, but as long as they still have never had any bit of major league service time then they are eligible.
-
Technically it's a gray area. You're not supposed to but we never held to that rule.
As long as you don't have a salary now I have no objection to it. Unless somebody else feels strongly against it.

Good reminder since people have started some auctions. Only players with major league service time can be auctioned until the MiLB draft is over. If a player does not have any major league experience at all (1 PA/.1 IP) then please do not start an auction for them until the MiLB draft is complete.
-
Are there any restrictions on who can be auctioned during the minor league draft?
