Wakanda Warriors have officially rebranded to Adirondack Lumberjacks ⚒️.
-
The auction is over. You can set your lineup and make trades!
-
Looks like 11 votes to remove the overnight pause and that’s a league majority. So no more overnight pause starting Saturday night.
-
The auction is well underway with 33 nominations so far. Surprisingly Jackie Bradley Jr. may be the first player off the board in about 4 hours. Make sure to take a look if you haven't.
-
Oh hey, just noticed an error on my team in couchmanager, which I'm pretty sure was not there earlier: Fernando Abad is on my team for Yelich's salary, and Yelich (who should be on my team) is not.

I think Jersey did a good job at explaining CouchMangers. It's an interface from 1996. But it works well once you're used to it. Each owner can nominate 2 player simultaneously (meaning a max of 40 players are up for auction at once). Bidding is like eBay: you can set a high bid reserve on every auction. When a high bid is passed by another player, the clock on the auction resets to 12 hours. The whole system pauses overnight (10pm et to 10am et).

3/1 ready to roll.
-
It gets some getting used to. Especially when you bid $6 on someone and someone else is still the highest bidder with your bid.
-
If you have this unchecked, when you make a max bid on a guy the price wont go up and you will have first bid at that price. So say you nominate a guy you wont pay more than $10 for- you nominate and then bid $10. Next person bids $2, the price goes up to $2 but you still are the highest bidder. Someone else bids $7. The price goes up to $7 but you are still the highest bidder. Some else bids $10. You are still the highest bidder at $10. Someone else bids $11 and are the highest bidder at $11.
-
You have 2 nominations, as each of those nominations finishes you get to nominate someone else. Once a player is nominated a 24 hour clock starts. I believe we now do that the first 12 hours the clock goes down no matter how many bids they are. If there are any bids in the last 12 hours the clock resets to 12 hours. One thing to be aware of in couchmanagers is the checkbox at the top "Make your max bid your real bid".
-
Starting 3/1 cool by us.

Once we get near the end, the number of nominations is usually increased. I hope that helps, I'm sure we will get the details soon and it will make more sense than my vague ramblings.

I have done a few ottoneu slow drafts with couchmanagers (I'm in one now in another league) but this will be my first draft in this league. In my experience each team gets two or three nominations at the start and the auction are live for at least 15 to 24 hours. If the highest bidder changes in the last 6 or 8 hours, the auction resets to 6 or 8 hours so on one gets 'sniped'. There is often a pause overnight if the timelines are shorter (i.e. the clocks stop from midnight to 8 am).

You mean you guys prepare for these drafts? :) I've never done a slow draft with CouchManagers either so there could be a bit of a learning curve for me too.
-
That's fine with me. As someone who's never done a slow auction, what sort of time limits are used? And assuming auctions are simultaneous, how many are going at any one time?

All teams are locked and loaded with keepers. So CouchManagers is all set to start. We can start the slow auction March 1 (a week from today) to give everyone a full week to prepare. Does that sound fair?

The slow draft is set up, please join: https://www.couchmanagers.com/auctions/?auction_id=89

Set your team name to the same name of your team in Ottoneu please
It will take some time to get keepers loaded into the system but we need all the teams joined first

Hi all, I put a poll together for the draft. I figured we'd start with weekend days (hopefully a Sunday), and if nothing works, we'll branch out from there.

No changes to OF spots -- there's enough sentiment (~50%) saying this is part of the league that makes it really unique.

Time to plan the dispersal draft. For the new owners: look for an email from me in the next 24 hours with notes and asking to schedule an hour later this month. Also make sure you check our Slack channel.

We currently have 2 open teams after adding 3 new owners today. Also still waiting on commitments from Master, Funky, Wooden, and Index.
-
I'm waiting to hear back from 7 teams (Master, QC, Funky, Wooden, Appleton, Midtown & Index) to confirm if you're returning to the league. Of the other 13 that responded, we have 9 back and 4 gone. In the hopes of keeping this league at 20 teams, let's all recruit replacements for: Sultans, Columbus, Trammell & Teke's.

Fun season; thanks everyone! I would prefer 4 or 5 OF slots, but can see the reasoning for reducing. I'll be back next year regardless.

And yes, 4 OF might be a good compromise. But if the majority want to keep the scarcity challenge, let’s keep it.

I’m also in favor of more OF. I joined for the challenge and I like the depth of the league. That being said, there’s an obvious compromise here...
-
I am in favor of the 3 OF approach. Hard to debate it here with the character limit, but it boils down mainly to the fact that there are more lineup spots (5*20) than regular outfielders (~75, max 90), which only happens elsewhere with catchers. So taking that comparison further, one compromise (which I don't even know is technically possible) would be to adopt the catcher approach and cap OF at 3*162, but allow 5 lineup spots.

I agree about keeping 5 OF. If you look at the percent of games played per position and with SP innings they're pretty inline. Catchers were the highest at 89% of possible games and the lowest was randomly MI at 78%. Innings pitched was actually the lowest at 77%.
-
In on next year. With jersey fresh here - is the OF change set in stone?
-
Thanks everyone! The short season definitely helped us out. Are we dead set on the 3 OF slots? Seems like it defeats the aspect of the league that makes this fun- extreme scarcity. Not on the slack channel so we might have missed the debate
-
Congrats Jersey and really to everyone for this wild ride! We'll be back for 2021—aiming to build on our improvement and go for the gold!

Congrats Jersey Tomatoes! That was close Evil Empire, nice run!
Everyone: please let the league know if you're committed to next season asap. We have the good word from Niv that we will reduce starting OF spots from 5 to 3 next season to make this league more manageable. So we hope to keep it 20 teams.
