Just double-checking the dates, Jordan: do you mean Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17?
-
Good point, I didn't think of that. My vote remains strongly in favor of a live draft. I'm on a ski trip from the 10th to the 18th of February, which is why I said I couldn't do those weekends. However, I'm willing to skip a day of skiing to participate in the draft if I'm one of the people holding it up. Additionally, the other weekend I said I couldn't do it, I would be willing to find a proxy to draft for me. Thanks for your work on this Jordan.

The dates of March 9th, March 15th, and March 16th are the dates we have the closest to complete availability.
If the folks who are unavailable for those dates can make it work we could still do a live auction; if not, I think the best path forward will be the slow auction.

The issue with weekday nights (and why I feel it was a mistake to suggest them, on my part) is we have a manager in the UK, and I *really* don't want to tell them that they have to be up until 2 am to do the auction, as 6-9 pm EST is an 11 pm start time.
To add to that, I also just found out I may be changing jobs soon, and my schedule may require me to be available for events in the evening.

I would really prefer a live auction. I would be interested in opening up weekday nights, as well as revisiting my schedule to make things work if I'm one of the issues.

Sounds great, Jordan -- but would suggest we err on the side of starting earlier so we're definitely done in time (that said, I haven't done the math on open roster spots / how many days we'll likely need so...)
-
Also, each manager will be able to nominate 2-3 players at any time (unless their roster is full, of course) meaning that we will be able to start this thing much closer to the first games of the year in Seoul.

Durations for each auction would start at 12 hours, and every time a new high bid is placed, the timer would reset to 12 hours.
This should provide everyone ample time to put in bids on players they are interested in adding.
Once the clock runs out, the player will be added to the roster of the high bidder.

May I ask what the bid durations are for a slow auction? Also, if we added Friday afternoon/evenings to the poll would it make any sort of difference?

I love the live auction and I’d be happy to flex to make it work. But no worries here if we go the slow auction route. Thanks for organizing, Bunt.

I’ve never done a slow auction — and would definitely miss the tension / fun / strategy of a real-time one — but think it would be interesting in a different way. And if it’s impossible to find a time when we’re all available, it’s probably the best option there is?
-
I like doing a live auction for this league, but after being the one who almost had to miss last year’s because of scheduling conflict, I understand if we move to slow auction. I think it slightly changes dynamics (another league I am in does slow). So I am open to the slow auction as it does make it more manageable for everyone if there are scheduling conflicts.
-
I'll give it a couple of days to gather opinions here before making a final decision, but please feel free to share any thoughts/concerns you may have.

Hey there folks,
After receiving most of the league's responses for availability--thanks to each of you, by the way--it seems there are far too many scheduling conflicts due to work schedules, time zones, etc. to find a consensus on a date/time for a live auction.
If it would ease the pressure, I propose that we do a slow auction to fill out our rosters for this year. This will allow for a more drawn-out auction process that is easier to access for all parties involved.

Alright, folks. A little less than 5 hours until the keeper deadline. At that point, rosters lock until the auction draft. If there's a player currently on a roster that you want to deal for, now's the time!
At some point tomorrow, I will post a link here on the message board with a link to a Google Form to help us set the date for our auction draft.

From someone in the know:
“The 60 day doesn't kick in until AFTER the auction. Even if you have a late auction and the 60 day is in effect for MLB, you can't go over 40 in the draft”

From Niv, in the forums, March 2021:
The 60-day IL does not give extra roster spots until after the auction draft is marked as completed. No team can leave the auction draft with more than 40 players.
The reasons for this:
Not all players that WILL be on the 60-day for Opening Day are placed on the 60-day IL yet.
This ensures that there is not over-valuing 60-day IL players during the auction draft
...[one other reason that got cut off on my copy and paste]
-
Not positive, but I think they count as a roster spot until they are formally placed on the 60-day IL
-
I’ve been wondering the same thing!

Anyone know how this works - when you have an injured player (see Jasson Dominguez, out til mid summer), will he count towards roster size on draft day? During the season, anyone on long term IL allows for an extra roster slot. Is that true on draft day as well? TY

Hi folks:
If you have someone who may be interested in taking over the vacancy, please DM me with their Ottoneu username.
Diamond Girl has sent me the info of an interested party as of 12/11, but if either of the individuals 7th Inning Streakers or Arthurian Legends mentioned on 12/9 have serious interest, I will take them as the “first come, first served” in this scenario.

Hi all,
We have a manager vacancy for Martinsburg Maulers, as the previous manager stepped down.
If anyone has a lead on someone who might want to join the league, please DM me here. I'll be checking messages semi-regularly (2ish times/week).
Hope everyone enjoyed the madness surrounding the Ohtani signing!

Thanks, Legends! So many teams in this league have set themselves up well for 2024 auction (and beyond) -- but I do like a challenge!

Congrats to the top 3 teams, but especially to WAMCO. Flags fly forever, baby. Looking forward to a fun offseason!

Or a single run by Streakers after 1924 games…

Thanks, Jordan and Matt! Gotta say the EPIC battle to the wire between Maulers, Streakers and DG for 3rd had me on edge of my seat yesterday. (And it looks like it came down to a 0.00157 difference in WHIP after 1500 IPs that finally decided it. Unreal! It doesn’t get closer than that…)

Congrats WAMCO, Kenny & Maulers. Right down to the wire with Streakers and DG, too. Great finish. Looking forward to the draft!

Thanks for all the time and energy (a 45-minute video call!!!) you put into this undeniably tricky situation, Jordan. If nothing else, this has provided a fascinating glimpse into the minds / opinions of this passionate group. As someone said earlier, it’s a shame we can’t just sit around a table over a pint to hammer these things out… and I do hope this difference in opinion doesn’t mean DG will stop sending me constant LOL trade offers.
-
Agree with all of the sentiment shared here. A big thanks to the commish for going to such lengths to get a resolution. Appreciate the dedication. I also love that the Ottoneu godfathers appeared promptly when beckoned. A 45 minute video call! Good stuff.

Honestly, that’s clarifying. Really appreciate the work, commish. (And also sort of glad that old-timers also debated about it for 45 min, lol.) Really appreciate the debate and dialogue everyone. Heading into the Yanks game now for some of that live competition!
-
Appreciate the effort you put in to finding a resolution. It took me 45 minutes just to read everything, so I don't know if I'd have gone the extra 45 in video form. :)

This is the perk of being an "industry" guy, I guess. (Just threw up in my mouth calling myself that.)

Thank you commish! Very cool to hear the Godfathers of Ottoneu were consulted on our league. Great work, you went above and beyond here

Once again, I greatly appreciate everyone chipping in on the conversation and hope that we can enjoy an active and amicable remainder of the 2023 season, and beyond. If anyone has any questions for me specifically, feel free to get in my DMs to ask.
Thanks much!

One team near the bottom of the standings acquiring arguably the top prospect in baseball in exchange for major league pitching talent is not an egregious thing, in my eyes. This is a move you often see in standard Dynasty leagues, and I believe that neither of these managers should be punished for actively searching for ways to make their team better--whether that's now, or a few years down the line.
For that reason, I will be approving the trade as a manager in the league.
-
You are literally the best commissioner I've ever had. Really appreciate the time you put in here. Thanks Jordan!
-
As many have stated, many folks go over limits to acquire players and then cut after auctions are finished. Since DG had multiple transactions that were being juggled (Altuve, trade with Mashers), I don't take issue with how things have played out. Also, while these rosters are illegal, lineups are totally locked; in this specific instance, I find that to be "punishment" enough.
As a matter of personal opinion, while I can see why some would take issue, I do believe the tr
-
This includes multiple players in the *literal* first Ottoneu league ever created; folks who have been doing this for much longer than I have.
After long talks (I quite literally sat on a video call for 45 minutes about this, to be clear) the consensus among every person I consulted on the situation is that DG is justified in the moves made, and they are within the spirit of the game.
