Fun fact: my wife was an extra in the Bernie Mac movie Mr. 3000 which of course featured the Brewers. She's in a couple of crowd shots in the last game of movie. Amazingly I didn't know this about her until after we were married and I guess I just love her a little bit more knowing that the first thing out of her mouth wasn't "I WAS IN MR.3000" because I would never shut up about that. Ok, enough blathering, looking forward to another fun season with y'all!

So who am I a fan of? The Angels, of course! I became a huge Shohei and Mike Trout stan and they have just become a team I love following. Of course that's in shambles now so IDGAF I'll follow the Dodgers this season because I go where Shohei goes. To prove my Shohei obsession I'll figure out a way to share some photos of my Shohei baseball card collection (it's turning into a legit addiction). Anyway, I'm a fan of all teams, I'm not beholden to territorial constraints :)

Hey guys, Steven here. I currently live outside of Milwaukee. Worked with the commish for a bit. I'm a weird sports fan. I was born in WV (Pirates/Steelers), spent my formidable years in Northern Virginia (developed a nasty habit for the Commanders and my first baseball game was the Orioles), went back to WV for college (Go WVU!), spent a couple years in Texas (thankfully no Texas sports), a decade in Chicago (Sox/Bulls), now settled with a wife, 3 year old boy, and 7 year old girl in Wisconsin.

Because of Steven Gerard. Also have 2 daughters, both of who do competitive dance which takes up all my money. I’m excited for another season of Ottoneu. Hopefully this one won’t be stuck in mediocrity like the rest have

What’s up fellas! I’m Adam from New Jersey. (The green part not the gray gross part) I own a blueberry nursery/farm. I’m an avid runner (love running trials in the woods) and Philly sports fan. Joe Carter ruined my childhood so I’m glad your son picked the Phillies Jason, haha! I’m a huge Pearl Jam fan, just got some tickets to see them in September again. Also a big soccer fan, played a little D3 soccer in college, so good to see some other soccer lovers. I tend to root for Liverpool…
-
Non-baseball-wise, I’m a fan of Brentford FC (which is a mile and bit from where we live) and Partick Thistle FC (through genetic predetermination -- I'm not sure why anyone would ever actually choose to support them). And yes, the Jose Bautista figure remains on my desk at work!
-
I managed to talk my (English) wife into naming our first-born Carter (after Joe -- obvs)… but he’s for some reason decided to be a PHILLIES fan. (Which cracks me up – considering THAT homer that we’ve immortalized through his name.) He’s almost 7 now, and I also have a 3-year-old daughter.
-
I moved to Scotland in 2000 but have been in London for about 15 years now. (And even met our ex-commish Tyler when he passed through here once upon a time. Which was fun. Please do get in touch if you ever happen to be on this side of the pond!) I know both Matt (Duran, Duran, Duran) and Phil (Streakers) in real life.

Hi. I’m Jason. I grew up near Toronto in the mid-80s when Jays were just getting good (Stieb, Fernandez, Bell, Moseby, Barfield, Henke) and have fond memories of the glory years (hence the WAMCO thing, which for any young ‘uns was what the White, Alomar, Molitor, Carter, Olerud Top 5 was dubbed way back in ‘93) and stuck around during the many, many, many not-so glory years (Halladay… and um, that’s it) – and these last few mostly disappointing overall / unfinished business ones...

Hey everyone!
My name is Mike, the new guy. I’ve played ottoneu basketball and football the last few years and I’m pumped to join this league. I live north of Boston and I’ve been pals with Diamond Girl and Kenny Kawaguchi since middle school.
Fun fact, in the summers I play in an old time baseball league where we play with 1860s rules. No gloves, can’t overrun first base, catch the ball on one bounce and it’s an out. It’s a blast
-
I’m Geoff, the Coloradan. Currently on year 3 of boycotting the Rockies after about 5 years of partial season tickets. The 1st year being 20 games in the Party Deck. My brother, formerly Streakers, started this league and still eavesdrops occasionally. Hello Tyler. I enjoy hunting, fishing, being a dad and husband. And I have had pretty good success on DFS (DraftKings) once taking 2nd in the King of the Beach for $80,000. However that does not translate well to ottoneu where I compete for 11th.

Matt here!
I live in NYC. Fun fact: WAMCO used to be my boss in London and he had Jose Bautista bobblehead on his desk. I wasn’t a baseball fan at the time (I'm Aussie), but I was in a bar for *that* homer and bat flip. The rest is history… I love heading out to Citi Field in summer and I enjoy this league so much I started another Ottoneu league at work.
I play a lot of guitar m/ and do a lot of yoga. Diehard Leeds Utd supporter for anyone who follows soccer.

Good idea, Scott.
I'm Jordan, AKA @BuntSingles, AKA Commish.
- I live in Milwaukee and have been here since about 2016.

Pumped about the draft, you guys!
There has been a lot of turnover since the inaugural season of Party Deck. At one point I think there was a sizable Colorado contingent - Party Deck is a reference to a section of Coors Field - but I'm not sure if we have any mountain men/women left. I thought it might be fun if everyone could do another introduction so we could reacquaint ourselves with the rest of the league. Name, where you're from, a fun fact, and what you like to do outside

Alright, y'all. All keepers have been added to Couch Managers. It only threw me an error on one player, who I added manually, so hopefully everything looks up to snuff. Please let me know if there are any issues with your team so I can remedy them ASAP.
If things look solid, we will plan on starting nominations on March 1. Thanks again for your cooperation!

We are still waiting on four managers to join the slow auction.
Also, for those who haven't done so, please go into Couch Managers and change your team's name to your Ottoneu team name; this will make it easier for me to import our keepers before kicking the auction off.

Hi all,
Please go to couchmanagers.com and create an account if you do not have one yet.
After your account is created, please follow this link to join our auction draft:

Yikes. Sorry to hear that unfortunate news, man. — I will echo that slow draft sentiment. It really, really is a lot easier than I expected when I did my first one for another league. The “ability to research a $1 bid guy” might be a drawback for sure, but the time commitment part is pretty manageable at least. I checked it like 30 minutes a day out of addiction to baseball, but you can get by with like two 5 minute checks a day probably. Let’s make the best of it on our way to another fun year!
-
I will do my best to respond to any questions about this decision, but I also lost my job yesterday, so I hope everyone understands if I'm a bit slow to get back to you.

Alright, everyone has submitted their responses, and we still do not have full availability for that weekend. We will be moving forward with a slow auction this year, and setting a firm date each year beyond that.
For those concerned about the time commitment for this: You will simply need to check the Couch Managers page 2-3 times a day to keep up with all new nominations. I would estimate that it will be about 15-ish minutes per day.

I think Walk Off's idea re: the future is a good one. Speaking from experience, I'd also make the point that being a commish is a truly thankless role (for zero gain whatsoever!), so I would encourage anyone who thinks sorting this stuff out is straightforward to volunteer to assist Jordan. (Because it most definitely ain't.) If we can all make a date work, great, if not, one year of a slow auction before setting a date in stone doesn't seem like the end of the world to me. Just my two pence.
-
https://forms.gle/C9sfTsssESrmeaMX6
Alright, if there's going to be this much pushback, the two dates in this poll are the closest we originally came to a consensus for a live auction.
If we cannot agree on one of these two dates then we will be moving forward with a slow auction.
I am doing my best here, but we have people spread across (I think) 5 time zones and two continents.

As an 8% stakeholder I vote for setting a live auction next year, and every year after, on the last Saturday in March. I believe this ample time to request PTO or what have you. Also, consistent with years past and close to Opening Day where we are most up to speed. I am good with the couch managers for this year and understand there’s an underlying component of being engaged twice daily, which is similar to having success in this league anyway, because meeting position limits is time consuming!

That being said I totally understand this is a difficult thing to arrange, and I appreciate all the work you put into this Commish.
-
I agree with 7IS that this seems like a whole different kind of commitment. Setting aside a weekend day or weeknight to draft is one thing, but I've got a lot going on right now between more than usual work craziness and planning a wedding, I'd rather y'all draft without me than go through this ordeal. I'd hate to drop out of the league after all the time I've put into it lol, but I'd honestly have to think about it if this is the direction we're going in.
-
I, too, understand if not. But I would like to reiterate my stance that I'm willing to use a proxy any of the days I can't make it. Couch Managers seems a little messy and a month-long draft could swallow my world whole. I don't want to come across as difficult I just want to express my flexibility and commitment to making a live draft work, with or without me.

Are we definitely unable to make the original draft work then? Understand if not, but this seems like a whole different kind of commitment
-
Those are the notes I made after my other league finished its draft last year. We drafted 170 players and it took 9-10 days with that structure. I'm not saying we should do the same or whatever, but that's just a reference point.
-
**Draft Last Year Example**
Start: March 9, 9 am
Ended: March 18
Rules: 2 noms per team
12 hour time limit
Reset on new bid. No night pauses.
After ~50 players were drafted, we moved to 3 noms per team.
Limitations:
Position eligibility doesn't always match. And CM requires you to fill starter spots. So you might have Mookie to play SS but need to draft another if he isn't eligible on there.
CM has 40 man limit, so IL60 spots wi
-
Perhaps a way to combat that is have more players nominated for auction at any given point? I did some brief reading and saw you can do 5-10 players at a time (or I guess more?). Changes the stakes somewhat — might mean folks need to be more strategic? I dunno.

Thinking about loud here, but I think where the slow draft changes things a lot is towards the end of the draft where owners who are looking to build around cheap dollar guys and sneaky value, it changes the game a bit because, like, oh, who is this nobody someone is nominating for a buck because an owner did his homework? Let me look him up. Oh looky here, not on my watch brother: TEN BUCKS! :P
-
It would be great to have some kind of benchmark from other Ottoneu leagues around how long a slow draft typically takes. Is this a 3 week thing? 2 weeks? 1 week? Probably impossible to gauge but would love to have a sense of what we're up against.
-
Allo, allo! I'm curious to see how this plays out, especially with regard to starting before/during/after Spring Training. Is Manoah in the best shape of his life?!?! I NEED TO KNOW. Just want to chime in that I think we should get protocols in place asap so that we're all confident we understand how this will work and can prep our draft strategies with plenty of time to spare. And I think we should account for any unforeseen hiccups we will undoubtedly run into and start sooner than later.
-
Thanks for being flexible, folks. I will follow up soon with details on how to get yourself set up inside Couch Managers.

Thanks for this, Jordan. Makes sense to me — but as you say maybe formalizing an annual Auction Day so we can all plan around that in the future isn’t a bad idea. (Unless we all end up loving the slow format.)
-
As someone who basically missed the draft last season (I think I drafted 1 player), I support the decision. I know we all love the draft day experience but it makes it rough if you have previous engagements. Hopefully this will be a whole month of draft day fun! I would also support a yearly set draft day, so we can get back to the live draft
-
In the future, we could standardize the auction date so it’s a set number of weekends before the start of the season—maybe 2 weekends, or something like that.
That way we will be able to pinpoint the date the instant the following season’s schedule is set, and pivot as necessary.

I support the decision. I very much would like us to try and find a live draft weekend for next year, but I don’t think it will be terrible to slow draft for one season.
-
Alright, I’ve taken the afternoon to give it some thought:
To make sure everyone is able to participate, our auction this year will be a slow auction hosted through Couch Managers.
I understand the passion that those have for the strategy of the live auction, but think that you’ll find a slow auction offers engaging strategy of it’s own, while increasing accessibility for all league members.
Tentatively, the slow auction will start on Friday, March 1. More
