Just two weeks in and we've had a pretty active off-season so far! Just a reminder for those who have made trades to update your trade blocks as the players you add to them are not automatically removed after you trade them.
-
Congratulations, everyone. You survived arbitration! Before I get into what comes next, I wanted to share the Top 5 players and Top 3 teams that drew the most arbitration dollars.
Players:
1. Pete Alonso $13
2. Cody Bellinger $12
3. Chris Paddack $12
4. Lucas Giolito $11
5. TIE Gerrit Cole, Rafael Devers, Jack Flaherty $10
Teams:
1. Arthurian Legends $31
2. Springfield Sultans $30
3. Bill Veeck's Peg Leg Ashtray $29
Look for more off-season notes later today.

I posted this over in the league Facebook group but wanted to share it here too. Steamer released their 2020 projections yesterday. They'll ebb and flow between now until Opening Day as free agents find homes and playing time becomes clearer, but should help in getting a jump on 2020 keepers and draft planning. Enjoy! https://blogs.fangraphs.com/instagraphs/2020-steamer-projections-now-available/

Thanks Ryan. Actually, I like Zeke's coffee from Baltimore best. Include with trade offers for a lopsided deal. Cheers!
-
NEW OWNER ALERT: Please join me in welcoming Dave Akerly to the Moe Drabowsky Society. He's taking over Chicago Tacos. Dave enjoys lopsided trade offers, Spencer Turnbull's arm slot and Seattle's Best Coffee.
-
A quick note to share with the league: Ryan, the owner of Chicago Tacos, informed me he will not be returning next season. I have a few people interested in taking over his team and will keep you posted on a replacement owner. In the meantime, get those arbitration allocations in before Nov. 14!
-
Today marks the start of arbitration! Be sure to allocate your dollars between now and Nov. 15. Use 'em or lose 'em. The process is very simple: From your team page click on the arbitration tab and use the dropdown menu to go from team-to-team. Players you want to ad arb dollars to can be done using a dropdown menu to the right of the player. If you're not sure who to target, here's a timely article from FanGraphs: https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/2019-ottoneu-arbitration-targets/

An update from Ottoneu Creator Niv Shah on payouts and off-season roster odds and ends: "We will be sending out prizes on Wednesday. Cap penalties and loans will be removed, default salary increases will be applied, and position eligibility will be updated Thursday." As a reminder, all MLB players will have their salary increased by $2 and MiLB players will have their salary increased by $1.
-
For those eyeballing roster moves before the end of the MLB regular season, auctions must be started by Sept. 27 at 11:59 PM eastern. Reminder: Adding flyers at the end of the week with the intention of carrying an illegal roster into the off-season is prohibited.
-
With our season now complete, I wanted to get a handle on who will be returning next year. Feel free to respond on the message board or shoot me an email (rallenhermes@gmail.com). If we have to replace any owners - which I hope we don't - I'd prefer to do so before arbitration begins on Oct. 15.
-
Congrats to Docile Irish, Arthurian Legends Amateur Volcanologists for their respective finishes in the playoffs! Niv makes the payouts after the end of the MLB regular season, so look for your $ sometime in Oct. And congrats to everyone in the league for a well-played first season on Ottoneu! There's still a week left in the MLB regular season so feel free to make additional moves for 2020, but keep your roster legal.
-
Thanks, Arthur. Youβve got a great team. Glad I didnβt catch you a week earlier.
-
Congrats to Docile Irish. Heck of a playoff run, man!
-
Starting to feel like a bad time for my stud team to become my injured subs team. I post this in efforts to rally the troops for a 200 point differential this weekend. Letβs go boys!
-
Playoff match-ups for round 2 have now updated. Best of luck to the four remaining teams!
-
It appears the playoff page and schedule page have not updated to show match-ups for the next round of the playoffs. I've posted in the community forum about the issue and will follow up here once I hear back.
-
I've made an update to the League Charter to clarify penalties and actions that can be taken by the commissioner when owners fail to adhere to Rule 1a (keeping a roster of 22 MLB players at all times). Updated language is highlighted. As always, the charter is available here. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1h5SPaKeo2QqYyR-8PUbvBdpegSUpFHFfaCAiUWXEbbU. Happy to discuss further if anyone has thoughts, questions or concerns.
-
I wanted to take a moment to congratulate everyone on completing their first Ottoneu regular season! For those who have advanced to the playoffs: Good luck. For owners who did not make the playoffs, you are still able to add and drop players until the end of the MLB regular season. However, Rule 1a (maintaining a roster of 22 mlb players) still applies.
-
Carlos Carrasco will be activated on Sunday from the DL if anyone is looking to boost their pitching for the playoffs
-
Whether you're bulking up for a playoff run or building for 2020, there are still a few days left to make a deal before Saturday's 11:59 p.m. eastern time trade deadline. Once the calendar flips to September trading will be paused until the end of arbitration in mid-November.
-
I am shopping them to the team that will help my team most in the future
-
Harper and Martinez
-
Three weeks remain in the regular season. Best of luck to everyone down the stretch! Also, the trade deadline is Aug. 31 at 11:59 p.m. eastern time. Trades don't have to process by then, just be accepted prior to 11:59 p.m.
-
Dallas Kuechel. -30. Woof.
-
I just looked ahead and saw that my schedule is brutal these last few weeks. Good luck to everyone in the stretch run here!
-
Thanks for chiming in, Arthur. I appreciate the feedback. I debated opening it up for league-wide discussion but didn't have much more to point to as precedent than "that guy in that league did it." The rule change is universal across all Ottoneu formats and leaves nothing up for interpretation should something like this happen again -- which hopefully it doesn't.
-
Don't know if it's worth opening the can of worms, but I would not even remotely object to you getting back your salary cap space for him. I think you should get it back (not sure if you even care enough to open the discussion in the league).
-
A note on Tyler Skaggs. After his passing there was discussion on Ottoneu Slack channels about league commissioners giving Skaggs' owners a penalty free cut. It wasn't done across the board and there were strong arguments both for and against. I chose not to do that, both as commissioner and a Skaggs owner, as there was no real precedent to do so. There will be moving forward, per Ottoneu Creator Niv Shah: https://community.ottoneu.com/t/tyler-skaggs-rip/5887/3
-
A note on this longer than usual "week," which runs from tomorrow (Thursday) through July 21. The 9 GS cap for starting pitchers covers the entire matchup, so choose wisely.
-
Re: The Playoffs. Six teams will make the playoffs: The division winners will be seeded based on W-L record. The wildcard teams are chosen based on overall record, regardless of division.
-
If you click on "playoffs" it seems to indicate the division winners are the top 3 seeds regardless of total points.
-
How does playoff seeding work? Are the division winners automatically the top 3 seeds or can a wild card with a better record get a higher seed?
-
Arthur is correct.
-
The opener would have to be in your SP and the βstarterβ would be in the RP to get points. Pretty sure thatβs my interpretation of the rules.
-
How does this format deal with it when a team uses an opener to precede their starter?
-
Thanks. Would definitely favor a change there.
-
Chris, it's because lineups locked for that player -- and players on either team -- at the start of the first game. I don't believe you'll be able to add the pitcher into your starting lineup later today. There's been talk of addressing this but nothing has been implemented yet: https://community.ottoneu.com/t/decouple-doubleheader-games/2205
-
Any idea why I can't start a pitcher who's starting in the second game of a doubleheader that doesn't start until later tonight?

That would be because heβs on my roster ;)

Where is yordan Alvarez? Houston double a player. Can't find him on player list
-
A reminder: If you cut a player more than 30 days ago and still have a cap penalty on that player of more than $1 you can re-auction them, cut again, and recoup half of the cap penalty. I have set calendar reminders for these (nerd), but Ottoneu also alerts you on your team home page. Cut players available for re-auction are bolded in green. For instance, Gems can re-auction Luiz Gohara and gain $1 back. Note: You cannot recoup anything from a $1 cut.

For those who are involved in the Ottoneu Community -- and especially for those of you who aren't -- there is a lively discussion playing out over a proposed change to the in-season auction tiebreaker. Feel free to weigh in if you have strong opinions, or just check it out if you want to get up to speed. https://community.ottoneu.com/t/proposed-changes-to-in-season-auction-tiebreakers/5668
