I'm against the arbitration for new teams after the cutoff- every year we have 1-2 teams not do arbitration in other baseball and football leagues so it's commonplace. We're (maybe?) a week away from the keeper deadline and making adjustments, regardless of how small/incremental, this late in the process seems unfair. My roster only has players I intend on keeping, those arbitration dollars allocated now are for sure staying on my roster. Doing it at the arbitration deadline, those dollars might have gone to a player I planned on cutting.
Teenage Mutant Njigba Turtles at Jul 21, 2023 12:10 PM -
what is the decision on arbitration? I don't think that I have done it either. what is real keeper deadline? rules say Aug 1st. home page says Sept 11th which can't be right.

Commish—In response to your comment, the way I’ve seen it done in the past is the new owner posts his allocations into this message board for all to see, and then the Commish goes in and reallocates players’ salaries accordingly. I actually had to do this in another league I Commish earlier this off-season. A little tedious but not terrible.
In response to the other comment—I’ll just throw out that while yes there are some competitive balance issues with the timing, there’s an even worse competitive balance issue with some teams not doing arbitration at all. And whereas that issue cannot be remedied any other way, there are ways to remedy your concerns. I’ve seen leagues in the past make rules like you cannot allocate to any players that have been traded in the off-season, or the new owner can only allocate $6/team instead of $8 (which kind of simulates what you are talking about as far as wasted allocations).
Do these two rules sound like they might address those concerns? Definitely don’t want to push through something the rest of the league isn’t comfortable with.
SundayInTheParkwithJeffGeorge at Jun 15, 2023 10:43 AM -
I’m new to the league as well and I don’t really care that much so I’ll go with whatever everyone else wants to do. But one issue worth pointing out is that normally arbitration happens before anyone has made any cuts from their end of season rosters, which is helpful from the perspective of any owner absorbing arbitration dollars. Often another owner will allocate some arbitration dollars to one of your players who you think is a cut, which is a benefit to you because (1) you get fewer dollars allocated to players you would actually like to keep and (2) you have a lead on a potential trade opportunity that might give you something of value for a guy you’d cut anyway. So making cuts before arbitration dollars are allocated is a disadvantage, and some owners have already made cuts in this league (in the expectation that no more arbitration dollars would be allocated) while others have not. I am not one of those owners who would potentially be disadvantaged here, I’m just not sure it’s great precedent to do this post the arb deadline. Happy to go with the majority though.

I’m not opposed. I’ve just never done it as a commissioner before.

Hey there everyone. I claimed the team but am not necessarily committed yet. I see that the previous owner did not participate in arbitration. I wanted to reach out and see if I could participate in arbitration now at this late date? I know it’s late, but we still have over a month before cuts. When I’ve taken over teams in the past, I’ve usually been able to complete arbitration without any issues, so I just wanted to see everyone’s thoughts on the issue. Thanks.

Teenage Mutant Njigba Turtles at Feb 12, 2023 10:55 AM -
Hi all,
As a Bills fan - this week has been difficult for sure. My current thoughts are as far from Fantasy Football as they've ever been, and while it seems as though the Ottoneu leadership has a plan forward I wanted to make it known that I have no interest in debating the outcome of the championship regardless of the result of the Bills/Bengals game and I'm happy to concede to Stoolblasters although any other outcome was highly unlikely as it is.
It has been an excellent season and I've enjoyed building this discarded franchise back up, but in light of the events on Monday night I'm stepping away from Fantasy Football for a while. It hit a little too close to home and made me question the ways I express my fandom and engage with the NFL. I say all of this now so that you can get an owner in place prior to any offseason transactions and so that this league can move on as quickly as possible.
Thanks for understanding - and I hope you'll join me in sending thoughts/prayers to all those directly and indirectly affected and especially to Damar Hamlin for continued progress towards a full recovery.
Best,
Jack - No Punt Intended

Hated seeing you lose Taylor before our heated rematch Round Mound - it ain’t over just yet, but valiant effort either way. Jefferson/Saquan trade the rare case of trades working out for both sides? The trade could carry me to the finals, but I’ll be regretting it in the offseason for sure!

Hey everyone, I hope the offseason is going well for you all! I wanted to reach out and get the group's thoughts on a couple of potential changes I've been thinking about:
1) changing to 2 divisions (allowing two wild cards)
2) expanding to 6 playoff teams (allowing four wild cards)
3) adjusting to 1 PPR
Obviously I won't make changes if the response isn't positive, so please respond with 3 Y/N answers to these questions when you get some time. Thanks!

Alpha: The issue is not why or how you didn't have a kicker, the point is the selective complaining. I guarantee you if Neanderthal had played Higgins against Columbus and won that match up there would not have been a whiff of any of this. By the way, I'm not defending not fielding the best team you can until the very end, but when you're busy and no longer in contention, things slip away. I expect Doomsday will voice up at some point as La Grange played Mayfield and Cook last weekend and that likely did affect the playoff race in that division. No matter, voices have been heard.
The RedZone Fumbles at Dec 7, 2021 8:00 PM -
You know I sent this question to the otto community and the answers I have been getting is that that is why they have stopped playing in H2H leagues and have gone to points leagues so I am not the only one who sees this as a problem. It is not a question of whether there were no moves that could have been made to change the outcome. You did not know what the outcome was going to be but you acted like you were going to be a loser and you were . This is just like your previous message where you love name calling. Does that make you feel better or more superior to other people? The fact that I may have put up the wrong people has nothing to do whether you are competing evenly in this league. By the way in my message I did not mention the team I was talking about but I guess if the shoe fits
As to other teams not complaining maybe they don't care or already have positions locked up or have better things to do with their lives
Neanderthal at Dec 7, 2021 7:41 PM -
Nate’s Gridiron: This is Alpha and I’m whining. I have the same record as Neanderthal and agree with him. I always compete even if I’ve been eliminated from the playoffs. BTW, that was a total oversight not playing a Kicker vs Neanderthal. In fact, I’d just picked up a kicker that week because Gano had a bye coming up so I actually had 2 kickers on my roster.

As I said before, you find another team that has a problem and I can easily walk away. Columbus pointed out that there were no moves to be made that would have changed the outcomes of the games. That big said, the hypocrisy here is simply ridiculous. Didn't really hear much out of you in Week 9 when I played YOU with players out, or nothing in Week 11 when Alpha beat you without a kicker or even this past weekend when You were up against Doomsday, who started Kamara and Collins, both out. It's not about fielding full teams or competing, it's about scapegoating someone else for your failures. How about try to figure out when to play Higgins and Ertz and maybe you're not in this situation. We don't hear Kieran's or Alpha whining and they are both in the same position as you.
