I don't think that's terrible cap management. I would argue that my cap management was terrible... I'm at $416 and only had 8 wins to show for it.
They did what was needed to be done in order to win. Now, they have tough decisions to make and may have to go through a rebuild. Kind of like the real NBA.
I'm looking forward to seeing Jokic and/or Doncic back in the auction pool next year!
McHale’s Navy Beans at Apr 15, 2022 5:29 PM -
It seems like the trophies assigned to teams are based on the regular season rather than the playoffs. Also, terrible cap management for the champ being at $529 now.

Presuming it’s the same as baseball, you can see what others allocate. But I don’t believe you can go back and edit it after you submit the full $25. Some folks knock it out right away, I usually wait until the last week.
CGT at Apr 12, 2022 1:40 PM -
The site says arbitration begins on May 1, but I assume that whenever it starts, it's all behind the scenes until whatever lock date hits at which point all is revealed?
21 Andre Ingrams at Apr 12, 2022 1:04 PM -
as I mentioned, never talked it out before in my baseball leagues, feels like bad form and I would be against targeting players or owners. Allocate $1-$3 towards players you feel are undervalued and generally go after the teams at the top of the standings.

Hmm, I see that when I refresh the message board, it still reposts my message even if others have posted between the last message and now. I understand the logistics from reading the rules, but was mostly interested in how it's typically done as far as people talking strategy out in public.
21 Andre Ingrams at Apr 4, 2022 3:43 PM -
I've never done one of these even in another sport. What's the etiquette of arbitration? Is it all supposed to be done in secret or is everybody conspiring to make life hard on the teams that look poised to make noise the next season? Fingers crossed for the conspiring version.
21 Andre Ingrams at Apr 4, 2022 3:37 PM -
you have to disperse at least $1 each to the other teams (so $11 total). That gives you $14 left but you can only go up to $3 a team, generally want to target cheap players on good teams so they're not so cheap anymore. Openly discussing players and owners to target would seem to be bad form, although inevitably the better teams get the highest raises. Just allocate your dollars as you see fit, the rest should balance out.
CGT at Apr 4, 2022 3:15 PM -
On 6/1 you will receive $25 that you'll have to disperse $1-3 onto each squad in the league. After 4/10, it looks as if each player (who was active in at least one NBA regular season game) will be going up $3 in additional salary. GL-Ignite and NCAA stashes will be going up $1.

Way to go Walton... It was an interesting season with a bit of a learning curve. Looking forward to seeing how arbitration plays out. Hope to see you next year.
McHale’s Navy Beans at Apr 4, 2022 9:08 AM -
Congrats to the champ. My guys put up a fight, but it's hard to top the highest score of the season in the championship week. You peaked at the right time.
21 Andre Ingrams at Apr 4, 2022 2:54 AM -
if it's like baseball, rosters are frozen until after arbitration, then you can trade or cut players.

CONGRATS WALTON!!!!
CGT at Apr 4, 2022 1:05 AM -
Congratulations to "Walton"! Just a question regarding the postseason. Are our respective rosters frozen as of tomorrow? Niv's rules regarding this point seem rather vague, especially considering that league arbitration doesn't begin until June 1st.

Thanks to everyone for playing this year. Following the playoffs with interest. I'm definitely back next year and appreciate you all keeping active in this experimental season. If we can switch to non head-to-head I will enjoy this format even more!

I hope our league stays intact for next year. It's been fun, and I'm interested to see how the off-season plays out. I'm also hoping that NYC gets their sh#t together re: Kyrie.

Good luck in the playoffs to those that qualified!!! I'll send something out about the offseason once we crown a champion.

I see him on waivers right now. I can put in a claim for $82. When I go to his player page, he is listed as a free agent at $41, but the link below it says "ON WIAVERS" and takes you to the waivers claim page. I think you might not see it since you released him and can't make a waiver claim on him.
From the Rules page: A cut player cannot be auctioned or bid on by the team that cut them for 30 days after the team cut them.
So wait 30 days, and if he's still there start an auction. You can also do this to reduce your overall cap penalty, because you can cut him immediately after re-auctioning him (if you win). It's a strategy that is regularly used in baseball when a high $ player is either abysmal or injured.
McHale’s Navy Beans at Feb 22, 2022 11:26 AM -
Beal is on waivers on my end (for $82). I'm nearly positive that you would have wait 30 days to attempt a reacquisition.
Mike Gorman's Retirees at Feb 22, 2022 11:24 AM -
Random question: Last night I cut Bradley Beal. He didn't move to waivers, but is now a free agent with a starting salary of half his previous salary. My question is this -- are there any circumstances besides being traded Beal again under which I could acquire him at his new, cheaper salary? Thank you.

yeah having finals 2nd last week of season is preferable cause of all the resting whatnot. also it works out that our regular season is perfectly balanced with playoffs starting week 23
BILL WALTON'S SPORTSBONG 🥀 at Feb 17, 2022 12:04 AM -
NBA isn't as bad as the NFL, but this last week is a bit dicey since there are no games on that Monday owing to the NCAA final.
21 Andre Ingrams at Feb 16, 2022 1:05 PM -
I’m not 100% sure of the reason but my presumption is that the last week of the NBA season is brutal to navigate for fantasy owners. At least that’s been my experience in past leagues. Trying to figure out who is playing and who isn’t is a full-time job and fantasy championships end up being decided by scrubs. I’m personally all for ending the season early like that especially in this format where picking up players is a bit of a process.
CGT at Feb 16, 2022 1:01 PM -
I just noticed that we have three weeks of playoffs, but only four teams. The ottoneu rules state the following: "Leagues with 4 playoff teams will have their championship game a week before the end of the NBA regular season." Kind of a bummer to miss out on another week of games. Hopefully, that setting gets updated for future seasons. I assume there was some bit of setup/coding convenience that led to this.

You buried the lede, in this league the setting is that only four teams make it.
21 Andre Ingrams at Feb 15, 2022 5:48 PM -
Reminder of playoff rules
The winner of each division makes the playoffs
The remaining playoff teams are picked based on the best record of the remaining teams, regardless of division
The number of playoff teams depends on the league's playoff setting.
If multiple potential playoff teams have the same record, the team with the highest points scored will be awarded the playoff spot.
