• You can search college players by name, and add them to your watchlist. Current Freshmen have not been added yet, so guys like Chet Holmgren are not available to nominate for today's draft.

• And do we have an idea when we will break? Will it be after 2 hours? I have a prescription that I need to pick up in my pharmacy closes at five and I’m not positive I’ll be able to get it before hand so just trying to figure out when I’d be able to run and grab it says it’s only 10 minutes away from my house

• Yes thanks that does make sense …. So it sounds like the available players only shows 100 or some pics number at a time so if you were to select point guard then you would see the top 100 available PG’s do I have that right?

• Question 1 - Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but due to the sheer number of college players I think you'll have to go searching for the player you want. For example, searching for Johnny Juzang comes up. If you have college players in mind you want to stash then you'll have to search for them and add to watchlist.
  
  Question 2 - To see more of the available players you'll have to select a position from below "Top Free Agents" (All, G, F, C). Or search for them like suggested above. As players are drafted they will be removed and the find players list will update.
  
  Question 3 - Once a player has been nomiated you can see what other people are bidding. You either type in your maximum bid or hit +1,+2,+3 if you wish to bid. It is not blind.

• Draft Room Question #3) when I was reading some of the documentation on the rules for the draft and mentioned that we use this particular style of draft that I had to Google and when I looked into it it said that it’s the kind of draft where it’s a blind draft and you can’t see what
  other people I have nominated in terms of the value that they’re bidding on but when I saw a video demonstration of the draft for baseball you could see what the current bid was for players who were nominated so which one is it ? Can you see what other people are bidding or is it blind?

• Draft Room Question #2) I was building out my watchlist and I selected the all option in terms of seeing free agents but it seem to stop at Dillon Brooks so my question is how do you get to see all of the available players and not just the top 100 or whatever it is that is currently being shown?

  My Take: The commissioner has a “pause” button on the draft and pausing during a team’s nomination time will re-set their timer to 30 seconds. Use this liberally. If the clock is running down, hit pause at 1 second and check-in to see if the manager is ready to nominate. You don’t have to be militant about it – a missed turn here or there is not the end of the world. But try to avoid letting teams miss too often. If a team does not want to nominate, mark them done with the draft and they can’t bid either. I would extend this to cases where a manager clearly makes an unintentional bid (e.g., they double-tap “5” and enter $55 instead of $5, they nominate the wrong Jose Ramirez, etc.). As a commissioner, you can use the Commissioner Tools to remove that player and let the auction continue.

  You won't have to worry about arb until after this season. Every player that played in the NBA this season's salary goes up $3 automatically. $1 for anyone else. This doesn't count toward anyone's budget in arb. Each team then has $25 to spend on the 11 other teams. Every team must give every other team in their league at least $1 and no more than $3 in additional salary. No player can be allocated more than $3 of additional salary by another team ($33 league max).

I’ve seen some snippets here in there that describe how you have a pool of money that you assign to other teams and other players on other teams but other than that I don’t really understand what the implications of it are and how it all works

  I get divisional advantages in real sports, but I don't think they make any sense in fantasy. In real sports, even teams that are tanking show up and play. In fantasy, once somebody tunes out, its over, automatic wins for the opponent. In this case, automatic playoff spots for their divisional opponents.
  
  In all fantasy, some level "tuning out" takes place over the course of a season. Some people tune out completely and need to be replaced every year. In fantasy the sample size is so small (4 team divisions, 12 team divisions) that being in a division with one tuned-out (or really shitty owner, or rebuilding team) is an absolutely massive bonus multiplier, like 25%ish. This is amplified when the divisions are teeny and there are only 12 teams total.
  
  No level of drafting or managing will be as important as divisional placement.
  
  The big question to me is, why add a luck based element that will give some teams an advantage, when we can remove it?

  Six team playoffs - I have switched from four team playoffs to six. Everyone commenting so far is in favour of it. If there are multiple objections to this please let me know and I can set up a quick poll - want this to be a democratic decision.
  
  Eliminating Divisions - Personally I like the divisional aspect and since the six team playoffs have the next best three teams qualify, it's much more likely the best teams will get to the playoffs. I cannot change divisions in settings even if I wanted to - the "number of divisions" is greyed out for me and it says "division settings can be modified until a week before the regular season" and we are now less than a week away unfortunately. If six or more want divisions elimated, I can set up a poll for this and reach out to Niv before the season begins.
  
  Turning off requiring nominations - Genuinely all Ottoneu Baseball drafts I have been in required nominations so apologies if that seemed a bit harsh. If we have people new to the interface I will turn requiring nominations off but will be reminding people that everyone should be nominating until they are finished.

I love the simplicity of Ottoneu draft software, the onus is on the user! But is is ruthless and my first (couple) Ottoneu drafts felt like the took place in a tornado. @bostonclassics, tip#1 go into the draft room and test the notifications button. tip#2 when you nominate someone, you also have to set the starting bid, and click begin. Its a 3 step process that!

• As a rule of thumb (when I'm commishing a live draft) if someone misses a pick and acknowledges it with an "oops" or "dammit" I don't think anything of it. If they don't say anything, I try to make sure they are present and realize they missed their nomination. If they are missing on purpose and refuse to start nominating, or if they are AWOL and wasting our time, I will turn their ability to nominate off. The draft software moves fast and isn't forgiving, the audible notifies aren't sufficient, and if you hear the audible countdown its probably to late to get a player in place, set a price and start the bid. These things need to be taken into account, they are realities in every draft, to maximize the FUN of the annual draft!

• Also, you need to turn the button off requiring nominations or locking people out. I'm commish of 3 Ottoneu leagues, and folks will miss nominations from time to time over a 4 hour draft. If they get locked out chaos will ensue, and you will be really busy pausing the draft and turn them back on. Its during these time when players slip through the cracks and drama ensues. I'm not sure if I've ever been part of a draft where the majority of folks didn't miss a pick out two at some point, probably while dealing with life. If someone seems to be manipulating the rules, pause the draft, discuss the issue and let them know to make nominations or you will lock them out. this will facilitate a much smoother and happier draft. Nothing is worse than being the commish, and not being able to focus on your picks because you keep getting interrupted.

• I'd vote to expand the playoffs to 6 and to remove dividions. Divisions will cause teams with worse records to make the playoffs, probably every year. There will probably be a division every year that has all bad teams and/or a dropout or two. this means every year there will be some teams that work really hard and stay active, and miss out to teams that might not even be setting a roster. Its a default setting on something that is brand new, that is why the other leagues have it. They are talking about eliminating divisions in the NBA for this exact reason, teams with losing records make it in the East almost every year. Lets be pro-active.

• Eliminating divisions - With four team playoffs the winner of each division makes the playoffs and then the remaining playoff teams are picked based on the best record of the remaining teams, regardless of division so this would mean that the second best team overall would make the playoffs.

• Draft time — I have already paid for another team on Yahoo the Draft at 2 PM on Saturday because when I signed up for this league the draft was scheduled for Friday at 1 PM so I cleared my calendar for Friday afternoon… This league is more important to me than the other one though so while I will have to multitask I will make sure to prioritize our draft in this league

I do agree that it would be pretty shitty if the top two teams in the league were in the same division so one of them wouldn’t make the playoffs even though they were the second best team overall

• Re: eliminating divisions. All other leagues are 3 divisions so I think it's best to stick with that (in the Commish Tools I can't even change it from 3 divisions anyway). I realise four playoff teams isn't a lot but rewards best teams. If the majority agreed to raise it to six then we could change it.

• Welcome everyone to the league! Very excited to get started. Sorry for delayed response - I never got an email about message board posting. For the draft I think we should attempt it in one session. Realistically this means it should probably take around 4 hours with a couple breaks. I realise this is a lot but think that works best for everyone.
