I hope I put this out there already, SIX playoff teams this year vs just 4 from last year. Custom seeding based on reg season points. So 1 v 6, 2v5, and 3v4.

Wow! 11:57 pm… love it bench!! Looks like we are all “street legal” and coming back for round 2. I’ll get out a doodle to get a time/date for the draft. Otherwise it looks like the NBA season starts Oct. 18th. Jump ball time!

Horford is available before the deadline if anyone interested.
We’d also be open to moving Giannis or Davis. But, someone would have to overpay as we’re planning on keeping them.
Let’s have a fun end to the trade deadline!

I too see nothing improper going on. The ottoneu economic system is proven to work well in baseball. The top heavy roster strategy seems to be working best in year one of basketball. That is making 10 or 15 of the roster spots into dead weight. The talk online is that next season, each roster slot will have 4 games per week instead of the current 3. So a total of 36 games versus the current 27. That will reward deeper balanced rosters a lot more than the top heavy teams, thus bringing value to all the slots on your roster.
Chip Baskets'Balls at Feb 20, 2022 4:17 PM -
Interesting thread below. My only add-on is that this feels much more like Ottoneu Fantasy Football as opposed to Ottoneu Fantasy Baseball. (I play both as well.) In our league’s first year in fantasy football people WAY overpaid for guys: Zeke Elliot went for $125 and Mahomes went for $115 for example. I snuck in and got A. Rodgers for like $15. Then in year two there were some MAJOR cuts and some compression. Now in year three it has settled down quite a lot. The prospect piece really comes in on year 2-3 because those guys start to have an increased value.
In terms of the Beal/Durant/ Lillard stuff that never seemed like cheating to me; just guys cutting high-priced stars to save $. (If I thought those guys were worth that much I would’ve went for them at auction. But I thought they were priced too high anyways.)
And as far as the 25 man rosters go I agree, it’s a lot. But I guess I’m thinking I just have to stash like 4-7 guys and play with 17-21 guys in a regular rotation. Plus that COVID-19 patch in and around mid-Dec to mid-Jan threw everything for a weird loop.
I’m enjoying this league. Fun way to spend some time at work playing fantasy.
The Hopsmackers at Feb 20, 2022 2:24 PM -
For sure. After this initial season we’ll go to six for sure next year.
The Hopsmackers at Feb 20, 2022 2:11 PM -
Personally I don't think any player should be "returned" or dropped because of these transactions. None seem to be collusion, just tough decisions being made in an inflated market. I'll reiterate that PG was mostly like to be my first drop in the off-season, I mismanaged my salary cap and was playing with fire most of the season, I finally have some breathing room. Team Wood has been the most savvy in all this, scooping up these players for good prices and gearing up for next year, love it!
Side note, Commish can we up the playoff slots to 6 next season? 4 seems a little too exclusive imo.
Bob Ross in the Paint at Feb 17, 2022 11:25 AM -
I really don't like being accused of collusion or working out "deals" under the table when no such thing occured. However, if the league feels winning a bid on a nominated player that everyone had the opportunity to bid on is collusion, then I will drop Beal before the keeper deadline next year.
All of these moves have been the result of legitimate transactions. Durant was dropped so the team could compete for a playoff spot and championship this year (similar to PG). These are reasonable and tough decisions I am sure the owners had to make. Sacrifice next year for a shot this year. Once Durant was dropped, six teams made bids on him and none of the six teams had the cap space to take him on without needing to drop a high priced star or half of their roster. Zion just happened to be the highest bidder and also had a high value guy out for the year so it was an easy decision who to drop. I wasn't the only one to bid on Beal I just had the highest bid. Beal at $40 or Dame at $80 when both are out for the season wasn't a hard decision to better my team next year. Anyone could have bid on Dame, Zion just won the bid again. To say Zion and I colluded to exchange Beal and Dame just isn't accurate.
If Zion just randomly dropped Beal without a corresponding move, then yes that would be pretty bad, but that isn't the case. Or if I randomly decide to drop Trae young for no reason (or anyone dropping a star who isn't injured) that would also not be good for the integrity of the league. However, all players involved have been out for season and also aren't going to impact what should be a very tight playoffs. Sexton and MPJ were dropped earlier in the year too when they were declared out for season. It is pretty common in a competitive league.
Team Wood at Feb 17, 2022 12:04 AM -
Just for clarification I dropped beal to make room for Durant. The money I got back from beal getting picked up allowed me to get Lilliard. Why would I keep him for $72 with him out for the season? Beal at $40 is a better contract than Dame at $80 for Team Wood. Heild helps with a playoff push over PG. All these moves have reasons behind them.
With only 4 playoff teams, teams are either going to be all in or playing for next year like in any sport. Every team has the same salary cap to spend how they see fit. I purposely constructed my roster to have cap flexibility to get guys on favorable contacts for next year with guys I drafted, traded for, and have picked up.
Zion the Prize at Feb 15, 2022 4:37 PM -
zion and team wood in reality traded beal for lillard but both got a 50% reduction in salary. if some other owner drops his high salary player and he picks up pg and you pick up his player, I will not be surprised. It is collusion only with the audacity to throw it in our faces knowing we can't bid or do the same by working out a "deal" with another owner. If this is how you play the game in Ottoneu, I'll gladly go somewhere else. CBS and yahoo and probably most sites don't allow star players to be dropped for this very reason.
Grassroots at Feb 15, 2022 3:24 PM -
I think what you are seeing is a product of a new league in a brand-new format. I feel like most 'star' players' salaries are pretty inflated, especially with such large rosters. Take PG for example, I dropped him, not sure if that sparked your post or not. I'm happy to walk through my thinking if that helps. Right now, the rumors are he is done for the season, I am in the thick of the playoff hunt and don't believe he will be back until next season, I'm pretty much in win-now mode. I added Buddy Heild who after the trade to Indy has increased usage, should be helpful down the stretch. I needed to shed about $20 of salary after the Buddy addition, the way I constructed my lineup of stars and scrubs I either drop half my roster of cheap and over performing players (sacrificing depth) or I drop one bigger name/bigger salary player and hope it doesn't bite me in the ass. I opted to drop PG, from the looks of the last few 'star' players that were dropped; all were similar situations as PG, lots of question marks for the rest of the season and tough roster decisions. If I were to guess we will see a mass exodus of most rosters after arbitration this off-season, and a pretty substantial draft next season as players' salaries will start drop down to more reasonable numbers. We are all learning Ottoneu Basketball at the same time, I personally still think 25 players is too many for basketball, but we'll see how the rest of the season plays out. Just my two-cents on the whole thing, it will take a few seasons for salaries to even out and big-name stars to remain on teams after they aren't productive any longer in the current season, more mirroring Ottoneu baseball.

I will not be renewing next year. I will not play in a format where you guys drop your star players and then pick them from each other at half price.
