Welcome guys!
-
Hey all, 310 and Chicago Dogs have been replaced by Zach and Andrew respectively, excited to have them...please be kind to them. Also, since we're soooo close to the cut date, I'm going to give them a free round of cuts post-1/31, if you have any concerns feel free to message me directly and change my mind (but you won't). Andrew and Zach, our offline 5 MiLB draft is scheduled to start on 2/15, and our draft is slated for 3/21. Welcome to the league!

Would we like to change our trade wait period from 48 hours to 24 hours? I would...

Reminder that cut day is looming...you've got a shade over 60 hours to make those moves happen.

Cut day is Friday...working fast and furious to replace 310. Have a feeling Chicago Dogs might be in the same boat.

Cut Day is coming. I'm cutting the following players: MAYBE Urias, MAYBE Rizzo, Harrison, Pagan, Howard. Don't assume you'll be able to grab what you need at auction, price tags will be steep. Make me an offer now!

Found it, shot the guy a message...thanks for the heads up. I usually just do this word of mouth...but should probably post on the forum as well.

I have a feeling we might have 3 open spots...actively trying to get 310's spot filled, so if you know guys, let's get that spot filled prior to cuts.

Hey all, "310" informed me that he actually won't be taking over and has to drop...if anyone has a line on an owner they'd like to join, feel free to let me know.

I cant wait for the stolen signs wing of the Hall of Fame to go along with the steroid wing and the Black Sox scandal wing. Did they add the Greenies wing yet?

Bad, bad day for the real life Can Bangers. Justice served. Why does baseball have to do something like this every hundred years or so?
-
Tough to say...I reached out and haven’t gotten a response. I guess we’ll find out on 1/31 if he re-ups. Hoping he’s back!

I know a lot of peeps are checked out, so I'm sure there could be a bit more debate...but that date is 2.5 months away, so I imagine everyone at this point should be able to figure out a way to make it work. I've set the draft date in our settings. Cut day is roughly 3 weeks out.

Same for me (what Wrecking Ball said)

I would prefer a weekend afternoon/evening draft, like we've done the past few years. Something around like, 5-6:00 CST. I can't really do a weeknight draft because I work until 6:00pm.
-
Alright folks...Opening Day is March 26th...would a weekend, or an evening draft work best? Key dates: Cut day is January 31st. ALSO, on the 31st EVERY team has to re-up with Ottoneu. That date is absolutely critical. For our 5 MiLB draft, I'm thinking offline that probably starts on Feb 15th.

Can I suggest that we try establishing an auction date soon? If I’m scheduled to work, I can try to get a swap if I have enough notice.

Just my two cents. Y'all can sit around and play Pilly Lawyer but the intent seems clear. Give owner a farm system that does not impede the 40 man roster and keep the auction bid process intact. I can't make the time commitment to sit by the newsfeed. I know this is sacrilegious but some of us have other things to do in our fantasy lives. Great league here guys, but lighten up a little. 'Cause I'm kicking butt and takin' names. The OG is just O, not dead.

For what it's worth, I've always interpreted the rule the same way as Paulina St. Blues and adding MiLB players via auction in-season has never been discouraged. If you wanted to limit that, a deadline of the day before the MLB draft would work.
-
Just wanted to add that I have been in the league since the 5milb rule was started and that adding minor league free agents to your 40 roster was not forbidden in previous seasons. I added Kirilloff in 2018 and others before then. It was just done a lot more last year than before. Babe would be the one to speak to the original intent of the rule in question—he wrote them.
-
Agreed. We could/should tighten up the language so we're all clear.

its not 100% clear

I've read it now a couple of times...it's a bit tricky.

ok after rereading it i can see what you guys are saying too..
-
well the next line says:
Undrafted (unowned) 5MiLB players cannot be added to the non-roster portion of an owner’s roster at any other time during the year, and may not be added via the standard Ottoneu free-agent or waiver system by starting a player auction.
-
No, it actually says "5MiLB players may only be added during the annual non-roster draft.". Which to me could mean (I think in line with Paulina is saying)...that you can't pick up a player via auction, and then stash them on your 5 MiLB. That might be intuitive to assume...but it's very specific to 5MiLB.

In re-reading the charter (again)...I think I see that perspective as well. That wording is a little tricky. I'd love for Babe Ruth to weigh in here on the appropriate response, as he's been co-commish and might understand intent here better.

It state pretty clearly: "MiLB players may only be added during the annual non-roster draft. "
-
I don't think any rules were missed. The way I interpreted that is to simply say you can't add prospects for the extended 5-man roster via free agency. It's not making it illegal to add them and keep them on your 40-man if you are willing to start accruing salary. It's two separate things. It wouldn't make much sense to have prospects completely off limits during the season. The extra 5-man roster is just there as an extension so more prospects can be rostered. Unless I'm missing something?
-
As I'd mentioned in my message to you 310...I'm not inclined to go back and undo moves made in 2019, for a 2020 season...right or wrong the league was necessarily complicit since no one spoke up in-season. That being said, if others have a problem with it and would also like to put that to a vote, I'd be open to it while abstaining.

I am new but if that is a rule and it was broken , why are these players allowed to remain on someone's rosters? There were transactions at the end of the season were great young guys were picked up. These are potential franchise players that were acquired illegally. So the teams that broke the rules get rewarded with the next Tatis or Vlad G? What's the point is allowing that to happen? Not hard to fix, either.
-
Oh, you might be right...at the back end of the league someone might intentionally try to punt a bit to lock up that 1st spot in the order to land a guy like Adley. Let's not forget though that in the spirit of Otto you should still be fielding a legal team (meaning players in place to try to hit and manage your caps)...but it's certainly possible to do that. In truth, I'm fine either way...I didn't mind it shaking out the way it did, I LOVE an expensive Adley on someone elses roster.

I mean better players in the 5MiLB draft, such as Adley Rutschman. I'm not saying that either of the points I brought up are significant or that I have a preference either way on this (I'm fine either way). Those were just my thoughts on the potential ramifications.
