Last team left is Brent's. Hopefully he is doing okay. If he doesn't renew we will try and pick up an owner next week.

FWIW...I just renewed.

We have 5 GMs left to renew, including myself. Due at the end of the month.

im calling for a replay of all our games for the last two seasons, especially last year. i KNOW i would have made the playoffs rather than go 5-17 since im sure i played teams which had astros and red sox on them!!!

5000 - i played in that dudes first league as a tester. played in another deal with him and he tried to branch off on his own. his results packet was like 12 pages, dot matrix printed and copied only on one side of the paper. paid more in postage and paper than i think he really had figured he would. i think he lasted like three seasons.

Akron, I do remember some guys in NY started something like that in the late 70’s ....it had a couple of letters as the name of the company.
-
Love the sarcasm. So, what about my specific proposal of March 13- 15? Still early but enough time to have an idea what the roster spots will because a fair amount of spring training games would have been played.

I really don't know how players are going to do until some time around the All-Star game. Even then it is questionable. That however would be best for me as a time to hold the auction.

plus, everyone in here knows their shit. by the time we do draft, if you dont know what position battles are going on, what free agents are left and what their best fits are or the projected stats for seattle's #4 outfielder are, then an espn random roto league may be a better fit.....

Guys I appreciate the discussion. Keep in mind we won't be making any decisions until we are all paid up. Once that happens maybe I can do a straw poll and figure something out based on that. Until then, keep up the discussion if you like. I think KC really summed it up as risk tolerance vs aversion. One thing to remember is that no matter when the draft is we will all have to make roster decisions based on the same data.
-
*has to google when memorial day is* May long weekend? lol, thats kind of funny.
-
Jeez gomp you are old. Didn't realize.
-
.... since you DONT know who/what/where, it also makes you spend your auction money more judiciously so that you can bid on rookies, etc.

ive played in a few long term leagues which drafted in mid february. it does make for better roster management, joe hardy. if you do have a guy in the minors or backups, yo uhave to decide what to do. since this format has a minor league, you gotta decide whether to hold him on that list or do something with his spot. it also means that less money would be spent on some spring training phenom and allows for better bidding wars for guys who get starting spots based on their springs.

5000 - remember the play by mail leagues? waiting by the mailbox for the results packet so you could turn in a lineup. i started in 1981 when i was 14.

I have played in ottoneu leagues that drafted in Feb. Everything was fine. There were injuries and lineup changes and uncertainties after the draft, but that only made for more interesting roster management and trades. I suppose we're really talking about risk tolerance vs. risk aversion. I believe there is a league that drafts on Memorial Day to avoid all those early season injuries and playing time loses.
-
Not good with February. I’ve been playing various games since 85 and I have never drafter in February.
-
I'm fine with late February or early March.

Most of the teams don't start playing Spring Training games until 2/21/20. So, late February won't tell us anything as to who might win or lose jobs on any given team. IMO, the best thing would be to draft between March 13- 15. That would give us a month of games to see who might make MLB rosters and who starts and who doesn't. MLB starts March 26.

Would late February early March be an appropriate compromise?

I joined league on December 24th and already have made 5 trades. I think this league has a pretty good trading history that I can tell by the past trades page.I you want to make trades an owner will find away.

I'm good either toward the end of February around the time Spring Training starts or later in March. Everyone has the same risk if we draft early & there can be some buying opportunities if you're willing to take on some greater risk. Everyone has more information in March but it always seems like a player gets hurt within a day or two after the draft anyway. Either way, everyone is playing by the same rules and has the the risk. I just need the start time to account for my being on

Draft in February way too early, more downside than upside...

I dont remember if we had this many teams with this much money to spend last year. Should make draft day interesting.

What Joe Hardy talks about--drafting early--sounds pretty exciting. Doesn't the fun come from using what insight we have to place bets on an unpredictable future?

I strongly disagree about a draft in February. It's too early. You might not know all the free agents. You won't know any of the position battles and that might result in a team drafting too many players that got sent down or got hurt. There will be move movement and trades because we will drafting in the dark as to most of the transaction. Most of the teams don't start playing games until 2/21/20.

Yes Akron, I agree with you. I think once everyone is renewed I will start to throw out some draft dates in February. The only delay might be if Brent doesn't renew his team we will have to find an owner.

I dont expect the commissioner to try and keep track of all this if it isnt already allowed by the site. It just complicates things.
