LOL thank you, good sirs!
Shaping up to be quite a finish in this league.
-
I would like to publicly thank Brandon Pfaadt, Reid Detmers and Craig Kimbrel for taking my team ERA from 3.40 to 3.55 at this late stage of this season :)
-
Thank you for the messages. Decided on Yelich and cash

Looking at JRam and a loan for the best young player(s), prospect(s), injured player(s) I can find for next year.

Let’s get this party started!
-
Rebuilding around my Pitching staff and Contreras, Guerrero, Bichette and other younger players. Make me an offer for other mostly older players. Bello and/or Gore may be available as well.
-
Don't worry man, been there done that
-
It's nothing I haven't done myself... Several times. And will almost certainly do again in the future. It's easy to get caught up in FA bidding when you see a new toy available.
-
didn't mean to pick up rice and then cut him, but apparently I've over extended myself and had to let him and 3 others go to get even..my apologies to the league, I'm better than that
-
Betts is available, send your offers

🔥🔥🔥

Since our trade, FFF has ascended from 91 to 98 points, and I've tanked from 104 to 96.5. Still very very early to judge, but there's almost never a reason for a veto. Especially when you see a shark like FFF swing a questionable deal.
-
Well whatever the reason for the injuries, an independent study needs to be done , not a study by the league which they quote from. The pitcher is the most important athlete on the field. It is like putting a limit on the qb and say he cannot hold the ball for more than 5 seconds or there will be a penalty. I know it is not exact parallel but just saying.
-
I can see how the pitch clock can affect some pitchers who aren't conditioned to work that way, but I'm not sure it's as impactful for injuries as you claim. There have always been quick workers on the mound, and I don't recall any relative prevalence of TJS in quick workers vs slow workers. In my (non medical and completely baseless) opinion, it's the velocity emphasis and the pursuit of spin rate that has UCLs going wonky.

the presses to allow the muscles to come back. Pitchers until recently have worked at their own pace to essentially allow that. Now the muscles are subject to an 18 or 20 second time clock which they were never trained for in high school or college. Finally the pitch clock creates some anxiety in the pitcher's mind which gets transferred to the muscles. I think we will see more injuries. Last year we saw an increase in injuries to pitchers which I said was the time clock. More are coming.
-
Referencing the comment byCans of Corn about the injury to Bieber, I predicted that after the pitch clock we would see a raft of injuries to top pitchers . We have Cole , now Bieber and now also possibly Strider. The players union was against the pitch clock bc of possible injuries. I am hold that trainers say there needs to be time for the muscles to relax after they have been extended. For example when someone is doing presses at a gym, there needs to be a certain amount of time between

I also want to stick up for Ottoneu as a format. I enjoy rebuilding and competing almost equally, really. But the overall point is to compete. Hoarding surplus and prospects is a blast, but if you don't cash those in (and receive loans to facilitate the deals), you aren't competing at the level required to beat sharks like GC and FFF. Loans are a tool for rebuilders to boost their ability to compete the following year, more than they are a tool for current competitors.
-
Oh dang! Just saw the Bieber news. I think that was me, rubbing my crystal ball during the draft. Too many red flags there to not take notice.
-
I also really appreciate the discussion here, and see it as a good sign for the health of the league.
I want to speak up and vouch for FFF, as I know him to be a truly exceptional 5x5 Ottoneu owner who is more than capable of handling his business. I understand the concern for the deal on the surface, but there's a possible outcome where I got absolutely swindled in this deal, and with FFF's reputation, I consider that outcome fairly likely to manifest.
-
I had him in 2 leagues, they way he pitched first 2 games..I did not see this coming
-
Hat tip to whoever voiced concerns about Bieber’s health during the draft

Thanks for the concern, Neanderthal. I agree with others that this is always a good sign to see everyone engaged like this :)
I can see both sides of the argument here, but since Flags has no doubt proven himself in this league, and Jared Jones could end up the best player in this trade (at $2) by end of season, let’s let this one play out. If others feel strongly that this is imbalanced, please use your veto.
-
Good idea Big Papi. Why not suggest that tax idea to Ottoneu? It could make things more competitive in football as well.
-
You're absolutely right Neanderthal, I am the proof being an addict of abandonned teams every year. If there are 7-8 intersting guys and some high ceiling prospects, I like to try building it up. There's only one thing I don't like is some teams being allowed to carry more than 200$ over the budget, buying a championship, there should be a limit in loans and money you can go overboard, and if you do so a tax to pay like in real MLB. Outside the subject, but makes me feel good to talk about it
-
It’s all good - that’s why there are votes for trades. Every year I too pick up an abandoned team that finished last the season before (this team in here is my rebuild this year). Rebuilding and making them Prestige eligible is the fun part to me. I get bored when the team is loaded and floating between 1st and 3rd haha
It’s a long season, I like to see a little friendly competition. I know I’ll be watching where each of you finish now 🍿
-
Bums . There were a few good core players like Harper which attracted me to the team but its pitching was a disaster. I tried to fix it with draft and trade here and there but it is not fixable in a month and accordingly I am currently at 56 points and Flags is at 90 something .So yes you will beat me but I would say you had a head start of maybe more than 50 yards or 40 points. By the way Ottoneu would never work if there were not people like me to take a chance on buying into abandoned teams.
-
To follow up on Larry Bird’s upbeat comment about GM’s being engaged, I agree. And here goes. As to the challenge to me by the team I was critical of (I never used the word or said anyone was incompetent ) of course you are going to wind up with more points than me. That is like starting a track competition with one team 50 yards in front of another and then asking why the team behind lost. I picked up an abandoned team a little before the draft and why was it abandoned Because it had a lot of
-
As a sidenote, I love that GMs in this league are engaged enough to talk about trades and daily happenings. Appreciate being allowed in.

Isn't that how dynasty leagues work? Gotta give something to get something, or in my case "nobodies". Still waiting for an answer on a side bet...
-
Well I guess time will tell but one team is betting on the come so to speak and the other on established players
-
I actually voted to approve this trade previously. In my estimation, Jones could be the best player in the deal next year along with a healthy Felix and for better prices
-
Thanks for your concern. Since I’m an incompetent owner that trades for “nobodies” would you care to make a side wager this year or next on who finishes with more points?
-
I vetoed the trade between Cans of Corn who trades 2 nobodies and a guy out for year for George Kirby and Jordan Walker. I am new to this league but not to fantasy baseball and Ottoneu and this is one of most outrageous trades I have seen I would like to hear from the team who traded Walker and Kirby an explanation of the trade
-
I was so happy with the state my rotation just a month ago…
-
Can I just put in the universe how annoyed I am with MLB for the 2 games before opening day. The team I took over was an absolute shit show last year and a couple guys of mine scored a couple pts and moved me up in the standings, thus ruining any waivers claims for a team that scored 22 pts last year.
-
Traveling today for funeral. Hope to make the draft .
-
See you all tomorrow night! Good luck!
-
hey all..check to see if your draft rooms work, mine didn't and I got an error message, contacted Niv and he said some people with chrome are having that issue..I had to download firefox to get it to work, you may want to check now in case you have to do same.
-
Hey guys, been traveling so sorry for the slow response or if all new owners have already wrapped up cuts. Agreed that week sounds like a reasonable timeframe to make these cuts, and gives everyone else sufficient time to prep for the draft. I’ll check back in once I’m back home mid next week. Thanks all

I'm fine with a week for cuts
-
Certainly a week should be plenty
-
I think a week is more than reasonable, I’d be good with that.
-
Sorry if I inferred that anyone disagreed with giving new owners time. The purpose of my statement was that there was plenty of room for reasonable disagreement to my perspective. This seems like a good natured discussion, and the league could benefit from a clarification of the expectations of new owners.
Is a week a reasonable expectation for the round of free cuts?
-
I appreciate all our new owners taking the teams on, which is critical to the League's operation. I am all good with giving time to assess the roster. None of the new owners are acting in violation of any rule. The start of spring training and what I saw with Bradish just got me to thinking about whether there is/should be a rule.
-
It wasn't really directed at anyone. My thought process was seeing the news about Bradish yesterday. Then I thought, well, what if a player suffers a season or career-ending injury between now and the auction. Would the free cuts rule permit an owner to wait until the auction to make cuts to see how things shake out with his players. That's exactly what I would want to do, and it doesn't look to me like it is addressed by the Ottoneu rules. Since I am new to this situation, thought I'd ask.
-
I dont want to speak out of turn but I think the original question about cuts was directed at Larry Bird’s tight hamstrings.
-
fwiw, I agree, Cans of Corn, that new owners should be given time. I'm fine with whatever everyone thinks is reasonable. Just wondered if a timeframe made sense and, if so, I think deciding upon one as a generally applicable rule going forward is best. If life circumstances mean a new owner needs more time than the whatever the general rule might be, I'd be in favor of the Commish liberally granting an extension request.
-
I joined just before you, Neanderthal, but I won't be making any cuts. It may less than half of a team, but the guys I have are worth more than I'm paying them.
From my perspective, and perhaps other disagree... I also think it's fine for new owners to take a few days and look at who will be available at auction before making their cuts. Get your bearings, and cut as soon as you're ready.
-
I joined the league 2 days ago and I want to thank you all for your good wishes. I have been looking at free agents and my team and values to determine what ,if any ,cuts I will make. Did other teams join just before me but after cut deadline? If so have they made their cuts yet? If so they should make them even before me if that is the case. Preliminarily my cuts will be very few.
-
I can't speak for this league specifically, as I just joined. But in Ottoneu, generally, a new owner is expected to make their single round of complimentary cuts within a couple of days of joining a league. There is no hard and fast rule, however.
