With our final pick, Phil insisted on another catcher...so we take Cam Balego, C, Chicago Cubs. D'Oh, it's now the Isotopes final pick.
-
With my final pick I am going to take Mark Vientos, 3B, NYM. Looks like Phil is up next.
-
Austin Wells C NYY Squirrels are up.
-
Andy Pages, OF, LAD
-
Pretty sure Thunder gets skipped and BALCO is up now
-
Dawgs final selection - Colton Cowser, OF BAL. Thunder is up, I think.
-
Time for a boom or bust pick, SR&K takes Elly De La Cruz, SS, CIN
-
The Isotopes select Vinnie Pasquantino, 1B, KCR. Back to Silk Robes & Kimonos.
-
Gunner Henderson, BAL
-
Phil is so excited...he got a call a couple minutes ago from Mike Krzyzewski who said, since his basketball coaching career is now over, he's going to scout minor league baseball. He strongly suggested we draft William Simoneit, a young catcher with the A's...if Simoneit is good enough for Coach K, he's good enough for Phil and me. Lindbergh Burritoville, you're now on the clock for what looks like your final MiLB draft pick.
-
Ah sorry guys been traveling all day and my phone was dead. All good I'll make my final pick on the next turn around.
-
Squirrels, homie, you've run out of time. Next up is... me!
I select Royce Lewis, MIN, SS. Phil Roof is on the clock.

Squirrels, homie, you’re running out of time….

It's ok. Both players are off the board. Squirrels remain next.

Sorry guys, work has been absurd. I'll take Asa Lacy KC Pitcher unless i've been skipped
-
Yes, Squirrels are up. We don’t do a snake draft. Just make sure to check whether the team after you had a full MiLB roster. Some do already. If that’s the case, they’ll be skipped over.

Searched for "The Airborne Squirrels are next
-
Curtis Mead 1b/3b Tampa. Not sure who is next.
-
Miguel Vargas, 3B, LAD. BALCO is on the clock.
-
Dawgs take Brandon Williamson, P, CIN. Thunder is next
-
Good question. For Duran, I'd say he is ineligible for MiLB draft since the auction already started, so someone is already committing to the roster and cap hit. By the same token, if someone posts an MiLB draft claim and I haven't yet restricted that player, I would cancel an auction if it started after the message was posted. Since the top prospects are basically all off the board now, I think the manipulation risk is low, but I could see room for it so this needs a review later.

Thanks for the update commish. First off: I don’t have any MILB picks left, so this is not something where I am biased. My question: take for instance Duran (which is funny because the other guy that caused this initial conversation last year had the same last name), is he still available for the next MILB drafter to select before his auction is completed? I understand this is something special we do for this league, so it does still appear to still be a work in progress.

That being said, I want to revisit this in November and finalize some of the other rules questions we have. So I'm going to note it, and then I'll reintroduce it for debate in the off-season. And then hopefully we can systematize and publish our conclusions so we're not depending on institutional memory every year.

As ever, you are trading the cost of cap and roster space for the security of "getting your guy." Consider the current case of Jhoan Duran who is up for auction. I think it makes sense to want him since he figures to be in the Twins bullpen even though he has yet to debut. Due to the season starting so soon, I'm going to allow auction on anyone.

While I like the MiLB draft, the fact that it exists outside Ottoneu has created a complex oral tradition around its use these past two years. It feels almost Talmudic with various past sages being quoted. Ultimately, I can't justify suspending MiLB auctions. If you can get them via slow auction, it's no different than getting them via live auction, and we're not opposed to that.

SR&K takes Brady House, SS WSH -- Diamond Dawgs, you're up
-
I'll take Jordan Lawler, SS, ARI - Silk Robes & Kimonos OTC
-
Wait… I was right? Man do I ever find my brain annoying sometimes. I personally would be glad to go back to the old rule.
-
I’m fine if you want to change things, I just want to make sure we were aware of what previously transpired.

That was in response to a previous message where you recommended that this was to be implemented as well. Don’t want to get all “pointdexter” lol, but this was just discussed last year.

Commish, just an FYI. This is what was posted by the previous commish last year regarding auctions for MILB players before the “MILB Draft” is over: “Good to know. I am going to wait for the rest of the day to see if any owners want to chime in on the previous discussions but if there are no objections I think we will institute the rule that MiLB guys can't be auctioned til the draft is over (so I will remove Duran from whoever's roster when the auction ends) and the rule that any players cut…”

Nice pick Ben (he was 1st on my board).
And I was thinking of another league that has an MiLB draft.
-
Diego Cartaya, C, LAD

[cue important-looking man stepping to the podium, speaking in a sonorous tone] "With the fifth pick in the 2022 Effectively Wild Fans Minor League Draft, Phil Roof All Stars selects Jordan Nwogu, OF, Chicago Cubs. Mr. Lindbergh, put down your Burrito, because you are now on the clock." [ echoing sound of one person clapping in empty auditorium]
-
Also, I select Nick Yorke, Boston, 2B. Phil Roof is next.

lol looks like I missed some stuff after I went to bed last night. Yes, it's perfectly obvious the trade was completed by accident, so I've cancelled it.
Also, there's no rule against starting auctions for MiLB players. I can't limit MiLB auctions anyway. But by starting an auction you take on the same burden as if you'd taken them in the draft: cap space and roster space.

I have no problem with canceling that trade

Can we get that trade reversed soon? Have a bunch of teams after Puk and Kowar and it’s now holding up the works.

It’s been disallowed since we started the MiLB draft. In fact, I think we had auctions locked during the draft in the past, but that was when the pre-season/ST time frame was a much longer one.
-
Good question. I don't think that was the case in previous years, but I will defer to the commish.
-
With the MiLB draft going, is it allowed to start an auction on a MiLB player?
-
Okay with reversal
-
Reversal is fine with me.

It was clear in the message you wanted to reject. My vote is you can get it undone. Sincerely, someone who has accidently hit accept before.

Hey I really goofed and accidentally accepted the trade w/ MVP Machines. Any chance we can cancel that trade?
-
The Wanderers will select Bobby Miller, SP, Los Angeles Dodgers. Ben's Banter is on the clock.
-
I will take Eury Perez SP Miami Marlins, that should fill out all my 5 MiLB spots. The Wanderers are now on the clock. ⏰
