I'd be down with bumping up to the $100 level. One of the other $50 leagues I'm in has already fallen apart, in large part due to the lack of payout in this level. Having said, I'm mostly just here for the fun, so I'm cool either way.
-
I agree that we should get a feel for moving to $100 before any other decision. So far four approve of a move to $100. Others should weigh in on the possibility.
-
Just to be clear, I'm not sure a move to $100 level would reduce turnover, but I think it makes the teams more desirable. Also, I don't think we need to worry about the league folding just because of a couple temporarily abandoned teams. The rest of us just carry on as normal and the new owner will pick things up when he comes in. Just mark the teams as abandoned and they will get picked up eventually. Of course, we should probably decide if we would want to move to a higher level first.

It will fill up. I know I am new here but I like going to $100 also. I am in a few leagues let me know what teams are not coming back I will see if I can fill em. I would need to know the dollar amount tho if we are going to $100 or not.

The logic of moving to the $100 level makes sense to me. I am willing to move to $100.
-
Yes it is possible to switch the league from $50 to $100. That can be done on the league setting page.
-
I am okay with going to $100, if it reduces turnover, like Lumber says. Is this even possible?
-
I just don't think the commissioner should have to foot the bill for new owners. The Ottoneu format is popular enough and you did a fine job of running this league in the first year, Jason. I just think these lower money leagues are not as desirable, due in large part for the percentage of entry fee that disappears. Just thought I would mention it as something we might want to collectively consider...
-
Teams in the bigger money leagues ($100+) are rarely available in the "Claim a Team" section, and if they are, they tend to be scooped up rather quickly. I have been in a $100 5x5 Roto league the past couple years with a few teams being abondoned each year. We have never had trouble filling them relatively quickly once they were posted, one even right after the owner failed to show up for the draft! Meanwhile, there seems to be all kinds of $20 & $50 teams available.
-
Thanks for your efforts in running the league, Jason. Have we given any thought to changing this to a $100 League? Since Ottoneu changed the prize structure, $50 leagues only return 58.3% of the entry fees ($350 of $600) in prize money. (You can see the prize payout structure here: https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/prizeterms). $75 leagues pay back 69.4% ($625 of $900) and $100 leagues return 75% in prize money ($900 of $1200), while the $250 and $500 each pay 83.3%.

As a life-long Pirate fan living in the Phillies media market I am excited to see the Phillies-Cutch signing. He is a fantastic fit with Citizens Bank Park. Great addition to the OF.
-
That sums it up. Phillips needs MLB at-bats to see what we have. We have Bonifacio and Soler for RF. We have Brian Goodwin who has been an interesting bat. We have Whit who can play CF against lefties. It is a waste of money. It was done solely because Dayton truly believes the Royals can contend this year, when we will lose 85 - 100 games. Owings was also a terrible signing too for $3 million, but at least he won't play everyday. It is so we don't have to bring up N. Lopez too early.
-
So it isn't as much of Hamilton for 5.5 million as it is for a team that has minimal chance of making the playoffs taking playing time away from others that might be a part of the team moving forward and signing a player that won't be flipped for more than mid level pitching prospects at best?
-
I would rather the Royals play Phillips/Goodwin/Whit in CF. A 2 WAR does nothing for them this year. The problem is Dayton thinks moves like this will make us into contention. It is a sincere belief on his part, but they won't and it is a waste of $5 million. There is also no upside to Hamilton, too. He will get us nothing at the trade deadline. A $7 million dollar gamble on Schoop or $5 million on Tyson Ross at least has the potential to get you some prospects in July.
-
Too many Harper and Machado rumors to sort through from my perspective. My guess would be Harper to Phillies and Machado to Yankees. I just cannot see Harper going the "other" Chicago team. He seems to want the brightest spotlight.
-
Two out of five years in the MLB he has had a WAR of at least 2.7. I think he can get back over that 2 win mark this year with his new team. Worst case for the Royals it is a placeholder for a year (in which they are very unlikely to factor into the playoff discussion) at 5.5 million.
-
Definitely the under. With the way KC runs, he could get back up to 50 stolen bases though.
-
Thoughts on where Harper and Machado go?
-
Over/Under 2.0 WAR for Hamilton next year?
-
He is terrible. Yost requested the closest thing that Dayton could find to Alcides Escobar. . . the answer was Billy Hamilton. He will bat leadoff and provided 650 at-bats of the worst offensive production of any everyday player.
-
Not if his bat is as bad as it was last year. If he can get his OBP up a little bit then I think he can be a starter. His defense becomes more valuable after moving from one of the smallest stadiums to one of the bigger stadiums. I think he has a bit of an boost from a change of scenery.
-
Billy Hamilton to Royals. Does Kauffman Stadium make Hamilton a worthwhile MLB starter?
