Hello, just wanted to say that this is the first time I've been in an ottoneu league but I have played fantasy baseball for over a decade. I intend to be around for a while and I'm going to spend some time trying to get familiar with the league.

For anyone considering picking up one of the abandoned teams, let me say that this is an active league with many fun owners. My 3 seasons have been really enjoyable.

Guys - I just marked Ricky Spanish and Bartolo's Cologne as abandoned. We now have 3 spots to fill (including Chad Curtis). If you know of anyone looking, send them our way!
-
Just a quick reminder to everyone that arbitration ends next Saturday (11/14). Please make sure you get your allocations done before then!
-
Congratulations to the championship, Elvis! It is good that someone other than Heyward wins. No offense, Heyward, it can be nice with some different winners. Self, I came third, which I did for the third season, but I can not be unhappy, it was my best season points-wise. I want to thank everyone for a nice season. I look forward to the off-season and next season.

Yeah Elvis, I went back and forth about 50 times over the last two months between thinking I had no shot and thinking I could actually pull it off. Not only did you win the league, but you set a scoring record in the process. I did have a good run of 4 in a row, but can't feel too bad about being runner up to the season you had this year. Very well-deserved title! Now it's back to the drawing board to plan for next season!
-
Thanks Heyward. I was pretty sure you were going to catch me and win your fifth straight title, but I got lucky. Looking forward to 2016.
-
Thanks Heyward. I enjoyed this season quite a bit despite the disappointing finish. Looking forward to the offseason and building for next year.

Congrats on the well-earned championship. For everyone else, it won't be too long before arbitration and the offseason trading season begins! Great season all.
-
Well, I had a pretty furious rally going for a while there. But Elvis, your huge night last night put an end to that. At one point yesterday, I had closed the gap to 75 points. But it looks like the race is over. At least I made you work for it in the end!

Great discussion here today!
-
Jesper I truly respect everyone's opinions here and I implore everyone to use the vote and express themselves accordingly. To be fair I offered a not dissimilar trade to you and offered you $30 that you turned down (perhaps it was for other reasons such as the pieces involved). For me this season is lost and the money is not needed so if it gets me long term pieces and gives me a lot of cap space for the draft I didn't mind doing it. Respectfully, Robert

Feel free to use the veto as you see fit. I trust the process.

Finally, I would just say goodnight and thank everyone who participated in the discussion and for their interesting views. I take with me what everyone has said and from my side it's no hard feelings. That said it is the first time I have put my veto, and it's not likely that I do it more times.

Eva, I apologize if I answer slowly, and if my language is bad, as it has been in the middle of the night here in Sweden and I'm getting tired. I mean, you received too much value by means of cap space. I have no problem with taking big contracts and pay the talent and the use of cap space, etc. But if it had not had anything to do with the value, then you would have been able to make this trade without cap space and had to cut players and still make a run at the title.

Chad, I was the one who received the proposal from Mr. Meseeks and rejected it. On the occasion of cap space, but also for other reasons.

Gyorko was about getting value for two guys I was going to cut. I took a chance that sdp might give him a run at ss and in the starting lineup for a run (doesn't look like it now). Sometimes when talking low value I try to be ahead of trends. It doesn't always work...

Good trades by Blackie. Previous owner left him with $490 salary & out of contention, so his best plan is to move high salary for good young players he can keep. For eva it's a good trade to take a shot at winning this time. If he actually does win, he made a great trade. Only recent trade I don't understand is the Gyorko deal, but if Ninja's happy, I'm happy for him.
-
Jesper - still not sure I understand your issue. The argument for why using the $81 is that is the only was that the trade that Robert proposed to me could be done. Are you saying I didn't receive enough value, or I received too much value?
-
Sorry, got deals confused, but point is the same.
-
And you're sacrificing an insane amount of value in a cheap Fernandez and Schwerber. Personally, I don't make that deal with 5 weeks left.
-
Hello Eva, I understand what you mean, but I do not share your view that you do not get value for $ 81, even if it is only one month left.

In my mind the finances are part of the equation though. The player spending the $81 had to sacrifice in his team sufficiently to have that cap space leftover. Conversely, the player getting the $81 had to have sufficiently appealing talent that the buyer was willing to move the precious money.

I'd also argue that a $81 loan at the start of the season is a lot less valuable with only 1 month left in the season. The "value" of the money loan is significantly less w/approximately 30 days left. An argument could be made that the $81 is actually only "worth" about $15-$20 in actual value.
-
My starting point is always that one can do what one wants with his team. When I see a trade, it is about fairness. I need to find a reasonable argument although I myself would not do the same valuation. Not free, but cheap. Had they made a different kind of valuation that would have been less problematic.

Hi Hank Chinaski - The $81 loan has nothing to do with value. It was $81 because that is the exact amount I needed to borrow to cover the higher salaries of the three players I acquired including $3 for the empty roster spots I will have as a result of trading 6 players for 3 players
-
I just want to make sure I understand you correctly. Are you saying that because of the large loan, Eva is essentially getting Trout and Cabrera's performance for the rest of the season for free (or at a very discounted salary)?
-
I understand exactly what you mean Commish. It is not the idea that is the problem. I have no probelm with a team make a run at the title, and non-contenders looking to trade big contracts for prospects / youth. The problem is. A player has two values. Their performance and their $ value. These values are related. Here is the $ value put out of action. Why $ 81? Why not $ 10, $ 20 ... $ 118 ...?

As a final note by establishing a cheap base of players I can be more selective at Keeper Lock and will have a fair amount of money to spend on free agents. Eva Marie and others will not be able to keep all of their high priced stars and I can bid on one or more as needed to potentially compete next year.
-
So to be clear I am new and perhaps I'm not seeing an aspect of this that others are. That being said I wanted to reshape my team in my own vision. Trout could have been a part of that but Buxton has a potentially bright future that, when you combine with other pieces in the trade, creates a young, cheap base for me to build off of and possibly compete next year and beyond. I don't need the cap space as I'm out of contention so sending a loan doesn't particularly bother me.
-
Jesper - to address your specific point about loans and cap space... I think it's pretty common across the Ottoneu platform to trade loans/cap space. It helps to facilitate trades between contenders looking to make a run at the title, and non-contenders looking to trade big contracts for prospects/youth. I don't have an issue with including loans, like what happened in the most recent trade.
-
Of course you should use the cap space, but then it must also be arguments for why.

Decent amount of talk on vetoes lately. My personal thoughts are that I would not veto a trade unless I suspected collusion. The great thing about Ottoneu is that there are many different ways to assess value. So as long as both teams are trying to make a trade to benefit their own teams (with no collusion involved), it's all good with me even if I don't think it's "fair."
-
I'miss not understanding what you're trying to say at all. Are you saying teams shouldn't trade cap room?
-
First, I have a fundamental issue with people broadcasting a veto in advance because I think the voting should be completely blind. I respected that you held the comment on my trade until after the deal was completed for this reason. To your point- I'm a little unclear on whether you think that a person shouldn't be able to overpay for elite talent, whether the return wasn't sufficient, or whether the money moving hands is ridiculous. Regardless I see nothing outside of the rules.

I will veto against this trade for the same reason I rejected Mr. Meseeks proposal, which was the day before he abandoned his team. The proposal was Mike Trout $ 62, Troy Tulowitzki $ 47, James Shields $ 18 and $ 94, Jose Fernandez, $ 28, and Kyle Schwarber $ 5. What I primarily object to is the way to use the cap space. It is difficult to give arguments for Trout and Cabrera would be worth $ 30 when they give 7.52p / g and 8.58p / g.
