It is a blind auction. Whoever bids the most wins the player for one dollar more than the second highest bid. You can only see other bids after the auction is complete.

This league moves fast, trying to catch up a bit so one last question: Am I correct that there is no way to see who started any given auction? I'd kind of like to know who I'm up against if I try to bid on one of these guys.
-
Thanks, now I see. Here's the relevant rule-- I didn't realize that the team recoups the camp penalty if another team bids on the player, interesting:
"e. If a player passes through waivers, 50% of his salary, rounding up, counts against his previous team's salary cap as a cap penalty, until he is claimed by another team or until the end of the current season. Any bids for him as a free agent must be at least 50% of his previous salary."
-
I'd have to wait 30 days to place a bid on Springer

I found it - f. The team that dropped the player may not nominate or bid on the player until 30 days after the drop date, unless the keeper deadline occurs in between the drop date and the player's new auction.
-
Chicken, can you bid on Springer or do you have to sit out? I think I read something like a 30 day waiting period.
-
"... your cap penalty is fully removed." Same situation with Knebel. Notice Knebel's min. bid is half the cost of the previous contract, or $13.

Here's the rule: "If you cut a player in the off-season (after the regular season ends and before the keeper deadline), there is no penalty of any sort. However, during the season, there is a 50% penalty rounded up for any cuts. So if you cut a $50 player, he will count $25 against your cap. If you cut a $1 player, he counts a full $1 against your cap, so be careful! If another team either claims the player off of waivers for the full amount or wins the player during a 48-hour auction...&qu

The min bid is set at 1/2 the auction price for Springer. His auction price was $49.
-
I noticed that there is a "min. bid" of $25 for Springer. Do you know why and/or how that is set? I assumed that it would be $1. I can't find a reference in the rules to minimum bids.

Hey commish, is there any way to remove Carlos Gonzalez from my roster without a cap penalty? I grabbed the wrong one (there are a lot of them!) late in the draft last night and didn’t realize $1 guys would also have a cap penalty.

Looking forward to it. If folks could fill their watch lists this’ll go faster. Maybe get there 5-10 minutes early

Not necessarily an issue if a team is not bidding. That's a fair strategy. But if a team nominates a player, they must bid at least a dollar. It keeps the draft moving. And it lessens the likelihood of a team having a lot of money when everyone else is out of money, which can and will probably actually happen anyway.

If you will let teams back in that accidentally missed, then it should be ok. Just wonder, what harm does it do for a team to hang back to end of draft?
-
I should have said that a team can be added back in manually after they miss. So unless it were egregious, teams would be let back in after the first and/or second offense.

I'm super against this. It happened like three times in the entire draft and to lock someone out just because they missed one turn seems overkill. Mistakes happen too easily - connections drop, the player sorter lags, etc.
-
Good idea, but, what are you going to do if the team that misses a nomination is not capable of filling out a starting lineup?

Heya gang, there is an option during the auction draft to require every team to nominate on its turn. If a team misses its nomination window, that team will be locked out of the auction draft. I know sometimes a turn is accidentally missed, but I don't want teams hanging back and waiting until the end of the draft. What do you all think about this?

to regulation. For example, one team will need to add 10 players to their roster. If this owner does not add 10 players in auction, they will likely have to nominate and win 10 players for $1 each at blind auction after the draft. There is a 48-hour waiting period after a nomination. So this could time quite a bit of time.

My interest is more in allowing plenty of time for owners to get their rosters in a valid state before opening day. As a reminder, owners are supposed to be able to field a starting lineup at the end of the auction draft. Also, owners are required to have one free dollar available for each empty roster spot. Financially strapped owners will have to win cheap players at auction. Barring that, they will have to work out some combination of trades/cuts/signing free agents to bring their rosters up

Nancy - good point. Hadn’t considered that. If that causes us to move twice as fast as we did the first time I think waiting til 3/4 is fine.

Bronx - My thinking was that since we've collectively spent 78% of our budget, it shouldn't take that long to spend the remainder. I believe that it is the bidding up (spending) that takes up auction draft time. We don't have that much to work with...but maybe I'm wrong.

I'm ready whenever. Sunday nights are usually available for me.

No offense Nancy, but my fear is that we’re not going to be able to finish the draft in just one more night. We’ve barely filled 1/3 of our collective rosters. Put me in the “better sooner than later” camp.
