If there's no loan, there's literally no benefit for me at all. I'd have to drop $36 worth of players. (Sure, I asked for a whole whopping $4 extra than what I actually needed, granted.) The whole point is that I trade future resources for current ones, and vice versa for him. That is in the best interest of both teams. Totally agree those factors all definitely matter--and rightfully so. If they're removed, what benefit is left for me here? I'm mortgaging my future, so I'd better get quality value for this year back. Further, 6 months of Bellinger is worth less than 4 months of him. His value as a rental depreciates with games played, making him less likely to get better return in a trade. And if Vlad gets voted off? Well that just means he gets to keep the player who *would have* been voted off instead.

Yeah I’m not a fan of the loan aspect. I think it’s a little silly to be tanking 10 days into the season esp after NB drafted a decent team.

My quibble with the trade is mostly the timing, but also the loan size: It's not even mid-April! NB might have gotten better offers when the season picks up. Also, cap relief + $1 Bellinger kinda distorts his auction price, and if Vlad Jr. truly breaks out at $3, NB will just lose him to the vote-off arb... (I'm only speaking as an owner here and not comm'r)

Look I started with nothing and if I want to build up I had to make a tough decision. I am not going to be able to keep Bellinger at $41 and this is the only offer I got to hopefully improve for the future

I mean, that's one way to look at it. Alternatively, it's a 1-year rental of a second year player still not out of his late season slump for the number 3 and number 11 fantasy prospects (according to Fangraphs) at nothing prices. (Number 2 and number 10, if we remove Ohtani.)

You are very right, NB. You were playing from behind, and it is going to take a large dollop of luck to compete for a championship this season. Were I in your place, I wouldn't expect to win it all. I'd change my objective: build the best possible team for next season while beating as many teams as possible this season. You have some nice pieces to build around, and anyone you beat this year would be an impressive feat since we all have a head start.

Welcome, new guy! For everyone else: when LuBluhm's team expired it was autolisted (and the league is still public). It'll certainly shake up the draft a bit...but it should be nice to have a full 12 teams. If anyone's particularly upset that this unexpected expansion messed up their draft strategy beyond repair, send me a(n angry) message! Conceivably, I could (if the majority of the league deemed it a wise policy) reinstate a particularly regretful cut, but hopefully nobody is too frumious.
