League Message Board

3) Unlike other platforms, Ottoneu a set of standard rules that apply to every league - on roster size, keeper/salary mechanisms, FA auctions - and that does not include innings min/max for pts leagues. That only adds more restrictions and confusion, and that's what we're trying to avoid; 4) The point of having this discussion was to clarify any ambiguity on rule 1.a. You can rebuild, stash, whatever, just have a full starting lineup and pitching staff and we're good. Now let's enjoy the season!
-
Just going to say a few things then hopefully we'll move on: 1) I didn't make any unilateral ruling. I invited everyone to leave their comments, five managers did (including me), and no one raised an objection. I waited 5 days and then set a basic set of rules for us going forward; 2) There's lots of discussion in the forums/slack on why there is a bit of a gray area around rule 1.a as well as the reasons behind that rule, with lots of great commentary and guidelines from Niv and Chad. (1/2)

I want to be clear I'm not trying to accuse anyone of tanking. I don't believe anyone is actively doing that and I like to assume good intent from everyone. Looks like we're in agreement on the rule at this point, and there needs to be an active attempt to get legal (which there has been).
Also, it's also possible to get under 1200 IP with a legal roster...Ottoneu requires significant day-to-day involvement for lineup setting and it's easy to miss days.
-
My comments here are more about the rule in Ottoneu overall. I mean there are a lot of leagues on here where each owner has two teams, one with all farm players and one with all majors players, so they can game the OPL system. I would assume the rule is intended to prevent blatant manipulation like that, not penalize active owners, and it's not working at all in that regard.
-
The commissioner has ruled and I'm not arguing against that. Also to be clear, I had not intention of fully tanking this season and finishing with less than at least 1200 IP. I have a lot of pitchers coming back in the second half that will create a roster crunch for me and until then I'm adding assets where I can.
-
Let's just have a league vote or have commissioner make a ruling and we can move on
-
I would also like to point out that this rule almost certainly hasn't been enforced in this league in years past, with many teams each year finishing with below 1200 innings pitched.
-
The fact we needed to define it as a league is exactly what I mean by gray area, as well as having commissioner determined case-by-case exeptions. Having different leagues using different rules isn't ideal, especially when there is an overall prize at stake. I would assume we wouldn't penalize a new team for things a previous owner did, but I was just throwing out a suggestion to more clearly and universally define the rule.
-
That wouldnβt work because a team could just not hit it and then abandon and then the new owner is left on the hook for that penalty? IMO thereβs no gray area here, as we just defined it as a league. You need to have 10 MLB pitchers not on the 60-day that you can slot into pitching spots. Doesnβt matter if theyβre all starters, all relievers, or a mix. Just 10 P eligible guys in the major leagues.
-
Ottoneu needs a minimum innings pitched limit to make this rule more clear and enforceable (with maybe a $ penalty for the following year's auction). How or when an owner gets to the innings limit should be up to them. Gray area rules aren't good for fantasy leagues.
-
For transparency, we currently have two illegal rosters, both managers have either made moves towards making their roster legal (bidding on noms) or reassured me they're working on doing so.
-
Thanks everyone for your input! Looks like it's settled then - teams need to have enough hitters and pitchers to fill a lineup. Exceptions will be made for 7IL, 10IL, 15IL, and for players on rehab minors assignments. We can provide a grace period on a case-by-case basis (e.g. players w/ long-term injuries but still on shorter IL designations, trades that make a roster illegal, quad-A guys), but managers should make a reasonable effort to get legal within a few days.
-
I think itβs important to have some SPs and RPs but as long as thereβs an earnest effort to meet IP min/max and be able to field 10 pitchers (add guys to fill in for 60IL/OUT/anything else that grants the extra slot) it doesnβt bother me too much how itβs achieved
-
Im fine with the interpretation... maybe a couple of the owners that have been in this lg for a while will remember the owner that Only had maybe 2 or 3 relievers rostered most of the season, And I believe they finished 1st that season. But i do remember there being some discussion on lg msg board back then . Ultimatley nothing came out of it.
-
but I think teams should make a reasonable effort to get/stay legal (propose trades, nom players that would get them there) within, say, a couple days. I'd prefer if we kept it simple and used common sense rather than have to litigate every move. If you don't agree with this framework, just type 'disagree' and if we get at least six of those messages, we'll start a discussion for a different interpretation. (2/2)
-
Ok, so here is my interpretation of the rule as has been established in a couple other leagues I'm in (and based on Niv's and Chad's comments on slack): we need to be able to fill a lineup, so we need 12 healthy hitters and 10 healthy pitchers. Exceptions can be made for guys on the 7-day, 10-day or 15-day IL and guys on rehab assignments in the minors -- but NOT for 60-day IL and for minor leaguers in general. There is some tolerance to when rosters just go illegal for whatever reason (1/2)
-
Thanks gentlemen!
-
Agreed that 15-day guys are fine. 60-day and prospects are not (there's obviously a grace period for guys getting added to 60-day and/or optioned down)
-
Busy afternoon here, but looks like we'll have to discuss this as it's never really been an issue in this league. Good point by Brooks, my initial thought is 15IL are ok, 60IL and minors (not on short assignments) aren't.
But feel free to discuss and I'll join the convo later. Play nice! π
-
So, to clarify: pitchers on the 15 day IL (or other short term ILs that keep them on the 40 man roster) do not count for 1a compliance purposes?
I ask because this is the primary variation in 1a compliance interpretation across leagues I play in
-
Thanks for the shade.
-
Friendly reminder of rule 1a for Ottoneu. Every team needs to be able to field a full starting lineup and full pitching lineup (i.e. 10 healthy major league pitchers) at all times.
-
Happy Opening Day to all!!!
-
Would like to move Adames or Lowe for an OF if you have middle infield need
-
Michael Soroka to the moon!
-
Oh yeah, we'll definitely take a break. Tons of spots to fill in this auction, this one is going to take a while!
-
If it pleases the crowd, I would like to request a short drink refill/bathroom stop/+1 finger rest around the 90 minute mark tonight
-
Ohhh shit!!!
-
We draft in two days!
-
Thanks everyone for renewing your teams!! League is healthy and active and committed for another year ππ Don't forget, cut deadline is tomorrow night, midnight eastern, but we can still keep trading until the auction.
-

-
Whats our League fee? is it $50 or $75?
-

-
Icaro, ty for posting draft fate in timely fashion, i get way biusy with work in March and have to fly into Manhatten as well
-
Works for me. Thank you!
-
Woo hoo! Thanks commish!
-
We have a date and time: Wednesday March 6, 8:00 pm eastern.
Thank you everyone who filled out the doodle, and special thanks to Matt and Nick (aka San Diego Slurm) who were flexible enough to make it work. If you are unable to attend and need help finding a proxy, please reach out to me - there are plenty of helpful and capable GMs in the Ottoneu community who could lend a hand.
-
Everyone, don't forget to take a couple of minutes and fill out round 2 of our auction poll: https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/bWWPWrnb
-
Reminder to everyone that there's an 'if need be' option.
-
Here's the new poll - I also added a couple dates in late February. Please fill it out by Monday, 1/14. Thanks!

Thanks to those who have filled out the doodle. We've gotten 7 responses so far (including me), and 3 dates have 6 votes (Sat March 2, Wed March 6 and Wed March 20). Given that at least 2 managers can't make the other dates, I'm going to run a new poll with those 3 dates plus every Friday in March. Hopefully we can come to a consensus. I'll be sending out the new link soon.
-
Yeah, let's assume 8 pm eastern for all dates. Once we have more votes, we'll narrow it down and maybe add a couple more dates and then do a second round of polling.
Thank you all for your input and your votes so far!
-
Done. A Saturday night US time would work best for Matt and myself in Australia as they align to a Sunday morning.
-
Echoing the request for a night draft - Iβm on Arizona time, which is Denver time until DST starts on 3/10, Pacific/California time afterwards
An 8pm Eastern start would be ideal
-
Time was just a suggestion. Let's fill it out based on dates for now and we'll adjust the time accordingly
-
are we just filling it out based on dates, or should we take the listed time into account too? with my kiddos, any date that isn't a night draft torpedoes my likelihood of being able to participate.
-
Hey everyone! Pitchers and catchers are just about a month away, so please fill out this dodle poll with the dates you're available for our annual auction. Opening Day this year is March 28th, and I kept all possible dates in March so we'd have as much ST data as possible to inform our choices.
Here's the link, let me know if you have any questions: https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/aKAZjNzd

Thanks, apologies all for the stuff up
-
No problem, I saw the note. Trade canceled.
-
Whoops I pressed the wrong button... Can a commish please cancel that?
