Tyler, pal. What was all this “spirit of the rule” chatter? Now I have to complain about you complaining. I swear to god I’ll quit.
-
Hey buddy, I have a plan. I'll be legal at some point. My lineup is set for days so I have time to think everything through and not make the wrong move. I don't want to drop someone I would want if someone goes on the 60 day IL tomorrow or the day after or the day after that or the day after that. Gotta see how it plays out. Bummer I can't bid on the new auctions though.
-
Tyler, buddy. Your roster still isn’t legal and I’m worried about that undefined rule. Don’t make me complain to the commissioner. I paid $20 for this league and I don’t want my fun ruined.
-
Tyler- listen here pal. I will expect your roster to be legal soon.
-
Tyler. Buddy. Come on. It’s been an obscure amount of hours and those players need to be dropped.
-
Now Tyler… don’t make me throw a fit and threaten to quit the league. You know the rules, pal. Get to dropping those players.
-
I think you’re doing a bang up job, commish.
The dude in first threatening to quit is the funniest part of the conversation.
Appreciate the entertainment.
-
Let’s all just move on and respect the rules from now on. Thanks to commish for getting this done.
-
Thanks for what you do Shot - I've been a commissioner before, it is a thankless job. Sorry for causing such a commotion.
-
I try to keep this place light because it’s a nice distraction from the bs of every day life. I don’t factor to have to measure my professional acumen in the way I handle things. I made more than multiple
DMs to Chance that will remain private in order to make sure he understood the consequences of these actions. In the end, the issue figured itself out…and I do believe his team has been severely damaged for the season…and possibly into next. In the end, Harper was probably not worth this.
-
This is supposed to be my escape from adulting bullshit not a reminder of more adulting bullshit. Sorry for my tone right now- the situation was bad from the start and only became worse-still, looking at the depletion in Chance’s roster should be enough for anyone to realize this was a foolish gamble. Now it’s turned into idle threats of quitting or tearing down and a suggestion I’m not doing my job well enough. That I won’t stand for-
-
Dude…I’m not being paid to refresh my internet browser all day to check and double check the roster compliance of a $20 league where no one is winning anything other than a trophy icon on a webpage. I have a friggin’ life with responsibilities and stuff. You even admitted that once I picked up the two players on waivers the line up would be fine. If you don’t like how I’m running things, you take it on-see how that factors in with your worldview. This issue has been settled. Move on.

*on the roster

And claims on Ruiz and Pratto will get him under the cap finally. But again, the fact that he was able to employ this strategy of hoping others remove those cap hits for him is completely against the spirit of the rules in place.
I had the 2nd place bid originally and the 2nd waiver claim on Harper and had a clear plan to be compliant with one round of cuts of 3 players.
I'm fine missing out on Harper, I'm only in disagreement about the strategy taken to get him on the
-
I only stated my intentions of not continuing next year to let owners know I'm like a GM that has to make the playoffs or get fired, my young players mean almost nothing to me right now as I'm focused on this year.
-
And Not Hot Mess is a rebuilding team in last place that can easily add MLB players if we really want to enforce that. They're not trying to sneak a player on the roster for the rest of this season and going forward.
-
The fact is you should have been compliant after a single round of cuts after acquiring the player that put you over. Your strategy of slowly releasing players hoping others will take their cap hits off your ledger is clearly in violation of the spirit of the rules. Your roster may be depleted now but you'll be able to pick up replacements soon enough and then likely after that get to enjoy the services of the player you skirted the rules for and likely next year as well.
-
Please take care of it or I’ll do the deed on my end. We’ve been more than patient.
-
The real lesson here is if you're walking in the woods and come across a wild Bryce Harper, whatever you do, don't pick him. Does anyone actually expect Hot Mess (and Troops) to come back next year?
-
i will absolutely be compliant today. If we are concerned with roster rules it should also be noted that Hot Mess, the team that dropped Harper, has not been legal for 24 hours longer than I haven't. This is per rule 1a (need to have at least 22 MLB players on roster).
-
Check that- exceptions here and there for footfaults is fine where there is no harm to any other team but I think everyone has to agree here that this is beyonfd a footfault and has been ongoing for a long time.
-
It's unfortunate but self inflicted. I tend to agree with Mudville here- you sap out any competitive motives if you don't have rules or allow teams to bend them.
-
It should be noted that Chance's roster is being heavily depleted through the extraordinary cuts he's had to make to become compliant. As a result, his roster is barely functional. This is a clear punishment set by having to become compliant. Nevertheless, it is inherently bad that an owner can collect points while being over cap. This is an issue with Ottoneu and separate from this situation as I believe Chance is trying to become compliant, but through poor a poor process.
-
I have limited resources to punish owners for these actions. The biggest tool I have is cutting players off of teams-which is troublesome because I'm making uncomfortable player decisions Still, I'm waiting until the waivers go through today-as a point, I did put a claim to both Ruiz and Pratto-I haven't sat down and done the math to see how this affects Chance's salary. I will give this until the claim deadline passes today and then make a decision on what can be our next steps.
-
Commish gave him until the start of today's game to make his roster legal. It has to happen before then.
-
117 hours and still has an illegal roster hoping for others to bail him out.
I was already on the fence about continuing Ottoneu next year, this is the sign I needed for me to decide that this will be my last year in this league at least. I joined Ottoneu to have active owners and a set of rules I liked and others followed which until now every other owner in my two leagues have followed those rules.
If anyone wants any of my younger players make offers now.
-
Full rule I.c. At no time shall a team willingly go over roster and salary cap limits. If a team knowingly does this, they will face penalties at the discretion of their league's commissioner.
You can have other penalties placed on you at Shot's discretion. Being locked by Ottoneu is the bare minimum the site can do.
-
(cont) get legal in all my years playing Ottoneu.
-
Rule I.c At no time shall a team willingly go over roster and salary cap limits.
I normally wouldn't care too much but you're the 3rd place team trying to get a player that might make a difference later this season onto your roster by being in clear violation of the rules. The rule isn't to slow play things and hope people bail you out. You willingly went over and should have had a plan to get legal right away. I've never seen a team take more than 48 hours and 1 round of cuts to g
-
Thank you for the clarity in your decision making. It should be noted this interpretation of the Ottoneu rule is my least favorite. I'm uninterested in constitutions or rule amendments though. I have too many guitars to play and bourbons to drink. Thanks for addressing the league on the board.
-
I don't mind it too much so long as you continue to progress towards a compliant roster. But we're waiting to pick up your players until you've dropped the maximum (that and they're mediocre options). Drop Arozarena and I'll promise to auction him off ;)
-
I'm not just sitting around - I'm dropping players and hoping someone else claims them before dropping more than I might need to. I'll get legal and until then my penalty is not being able to participate in auctions or trades and not being able to manage my roster. I've already missed a handful of games played and starts as a result. If the league agrees to an additional penalty I'll abide it but it can't just be one guy complaining.
-
Ha! No, it’s fairly straightforward. Take your crap back to New Zealand!
-
This all sounds subjective, we need to create a constitution
-
He's $17 over the cap. He needs $1 per roster spot under 40. He currently has 33 players so needs $7 for those spots. So he has to drop a $36 player or 2 that equal $38 to be compliant. He's not particularly close.
-
Update-I DM’d Chance this morning. He has until the beginning games on Tuesday or else I’ll bench his roster until he complies with the rules. I absolutely hate to do this, but the rules are there to be enforced…eventually. Thanks for your help.
-
I contacted Chance and he has dropped down to $10 over the cap. I’d prefer doing these types of messages over DM as to not invoke the mob. However, be aware that his roster must be valid in order to continue playing without my intervention. Thanks for your patience.
-
Don't be a Josh. We need a strong commish
-
Maybe Chance will have a legal roster by the end of the month at this rate. It's been like 80 hours since his roster became illegal. Should we bench his players til he's legal? Force him to drop Harper? Ottoneu rules states penalties are up to the commissioner for going over the cap and not fixing it, rule I.c.
-
Unfortunately it looks like 11th and 10th bailed out months ago
-
Has Not Hot Mess packed it in for the year after their sick Harper win
-
League is up and running. Please check your rosters and salaries. Good luck. Send me any questions and comments about the season.
-
Our auctions will be finished by this evening. Thanks to everyone for getting it finished. I feel the auction is a nice distraction from work-I hope it was for you. I have updated rosters to reflect completed auctions in the past 24 hours. Again, check prices, rosters, etc. I will do a last update when today's auctions are finished. I will shut the auction down after I have completed that task and everyone has checked for errors. Please check my work.
-
I gave those that need more nominations an extra 2 nominations. I also decreased the auction times to 6 hours for initial auction and 4 hours for redrafts. I'll evaluate on Wednesday how I can adjust further.
-
Beginning tomorrow morning, we will be down to 3 owners in need to finish their draft. I'm going to increase the number of nominations to those 3 players while considerably lowering the nomination times. I'd like to finish this draft by the middle of the week.
-
Thanks commish! Great job getting that taken care of quickly. Welcome Toope!
-
Hey everyone-Toope is now included in the auction room. I've restarted the auction. Thanks for everyone's patience.
-
OK. We have a new owner for Short Stack. Troope has joined us. Once I've finished the couch manager switch, I'll let everyone know and we can resume the auction.
-
It's actually not that bad, he's only got like $2/guy.
-
I think this is the right call. Thanks commish- not an easy decision.
