As I said before, if I am mistaken, like it appears to be, please disregard! However, it is hard to understand playing a game not to compete or try to win, specially a streaky game like baseball where patience, planing, and some predicting can make big difference in a long season. Second, no-one is asking to veto the trade. I simply questioned it. I applaud you for pulling such trade, and you are tacking the questioning of the trade personal, which you should not.
-
Regardless, the trade makes plenty of sense. You don't have to love it. There are lots of trades in lots of leagues I don't love for both sides. That's how trades work - different managers value players and their spot on their roster and rebuilding timeline differently. Doesn't mean they should get vetoed. In fact, the fact that 2 people vetoed a perfectly reasonable trade - and you have one guy outwardly advocating for vetos makes me wonder if this is a league I want to stay in.
-
JBPM ostensibly bought the future value of the player from me for a one year loan. I likely wouldn't trade Paredes for Freeman at their salaries straight up. I recovered some value in a borderline keepable player in Arozarena, and gave up a prospect to boot. You may not like Vargas or his shot at a roster spot, but we've seen that guys like Busch that get moved can be productive. That's why I added him to begin with.
-
To say 'people should be playing for the top 6 still' is a completely subjective and personal decision, and to veto and ask other people to veto because someone else is managing and valuing their team differently is pretty ridiculous. And that assumes an unbalanced trade, which this is not. As noted, Freeman at his salary is less valuable than you may assume. As for the salary, why would I agree to trade a similarly performing player with multi positional versatility for the same guy at 1b?
-
Look at the team names, likely the same guy. Boot both team to be safe
-
We should all have reasons to veto trades. 2 thought it should be vetoed. The rest of us either thought 1-fine. Whatever OR 2-they simply ignored it (which is the same as '1'). Any other discussion of the trade should be a general discussion of value. Just because I wouldn't have done the trade myself doesn't invalidate it. And FWIW, I believe major Ottoneu trades like this need to be made in June to be effective.
-
btw, when I say 12 out of 12, I mean in Tooth Gap’s position of receiving the player and getting their salaries paid for 3/4 of the season.
-
Other issue would be the posible extra 6 WAR that is being covered by loaning $71 for the two players. It was made too easy for Tooth Gap since salaries were taken care, no cuts, not restructuring, easy peasy. If it was half season and multiple injuries, or after 3/4 of season and restructuring for next year, I would have been fine. But I am here for fun as many of you, so if I am mistaken, please disregard.
-
This is what I see. Probably 12 out of 12 would have pulled this trade, meaning lopsided if that is the case, but my main issue is timing. We just completed 1/4 of the season and everyone should still be playing for a top 6 finish, and working around your stars, which Beer Pong had at multiple positions (1b, 2b, multiple SS, and multiple OF). Arozarena was bad all year, but since May 1st he had 5 HR in 15 days (time of the trade) and is starting to look like himself.
-
I paused seeing the trade as 20% of budget moving is pause-worthy. Collusion is my rule of thumb too and I have no reason to think that happened, despite these two sharing a curious fondness for Aaron Judge. Should Freeman have returned more? My gut says "yes." Consensus from recent trades for him says "no." Should Pong have dropped Arozarena, kept the cash, and picked up any similar prospect off waivers? Yes, but maybe he foolishly thinks Vargas will be the one young player
-
It's not even clear to me which side of the trade would've motivated anyone, much less 2 people, to veto the trade.
-
For whatever it's worth my rule of thumb when it comes to vetoes is only to veto when there is either collusion (which there was not) or an absolutely egregious imbalance of talent. Not that I have to defend the merits of the trade from either side, but I gave up a >6 point per game player with multi position eligibility owned for $8 for a >6 point per game player for over $50 which will likely be a cut at the end of the season and a decent prospect for what I hope is a rebound pla
-
Come on guys! 2 people vetoed that trade and 9 did not respond!? Am i missing something? This trade is not healthy for our league and should have been vetoed. 3/4 of season left!
-
Glorious madness!!!!
-
This is madness
-
Ugh. The Angels couldn't have announced Trout's knee surgery a little earlier so I could have gotten in on the Vlad Jr lottery too?!
-
Can someone with enough payroll and not biding on Guerrero, send me a DM? Thanks!
-
NOTE: Black Balls cut the wrong Lowe. As result, I placed Nathanial Lowe back on his team. Please see me with any questions/concerns.
-
Just to be clear: MLB regular season begins Wednesday morning with the Dodgers-Padres series. Make sure that 1. your rosters are legal and 2. your rosters are set with anyone you wish to play in those games. Good luck.
-
Will 2024 be the year Lance McCullers throws a pitch?
-
ok, thanks! My question was more concerning the over 40 size of the rosters with these additions, but I am seeing most rosters over 40 players have players that will be in IL, so eventually rosters will even down to 40. Thanks again!
-
To add-check out the ‘rules’ link at the bottom of the league page to read up on the entire waiver wire rule set. I believe the thing to consider is the cost of cutting a player and how that fits into the larger rules of roster compliance. I started trying to summarize it, but it’s best if you just read it on your own. Then, if you have questions, send them our way.
-
If a player gets put on the 60 day IL (or is suspended) Ottoneu automatically adds a roster spot for you.
You can also nominate players and bid on free agents with a full roster, but if you win the player you need to cut another to make your roster compliant.
-
question: I see lots of free agent auctions. How are you able to open roster spots past 40? I am guessing with 60 day IL, but is there another way to add past 40? Or what is the strategy ? Thanks!
-
Excellent, thank you! Good luck everyone!
-
Hey all-I went ahead and activated the season. The waiver wire and trading period can begin. Good luck.
-
OK. Thanks everyone! The auction is finished. Double check your rosters and DM me with adjustments. I'll start the league on Saturday. Thanks again.
-
Thanks for all your work commish! My roster looks good except missing Shota Imanaga.
-
I made a few major adjustments to the auction in order to finish it by the end of the Friday. 1. I gave everyone enough noms to finish their rosters. You need to use these before the end of the day. If you need another one, let me know. I want to activate the season on Saturday. 2. I adjusted all new auctions to 8hr initial with a 6hr extend to speed things up. 3. I took any current auction OVER 8 hrs and adjusted it to 8hrs. 4. I did another roster import. Check your rosters.
-
We shouldn't be trading until AFTER the auction is completed.
-
Keen once the draft closes and we're able to trade
-
I'm going to end up the auction with more OFs than I know what to do with. If you are interested in any of my OFs send over an offer, I'm willing to listen on everyone.
-
Hey all-I'm going to give everyone an extra nomination. I'm sorry I wasn't around much today to monitor the auction-work was pretty bad today. I'll add a nomination. It would be a BIG help if we started passing on these auctions, but I also know that some of us (me included) are keeping auctions open because they cover similar positions. Also, put your max bid in for players so we don't have this constant back and forth resetting. Again, I get it-things change, but the Vlad auction was crazy.
-
CM-Nominate players by clicking their names. Initial bids are $1, but I encourage you to put your highest bid after the auction begins in order to allow the auction to complete at a good pace. Obviously, we change our minds a lot and want to readjust bids-this is fine-just try to avoid it when possible. Also-utilize the pass button for any player you no longer want to bid on-this ends auctions quicker. Pass on your phone through clicking the player's name and selecting the "pass" butto
-
ok all-I'm starting this auction a few seconds after I post this message. Because our league stretches around the world, the initial auction times will be 10hrs. 8hrs for extension. I'll post to the board general directions for how CM works. It's definitely not perfect, but the problems are fixable. Good luck! Have fun. It's sure as shit better than work.
-
The CM auction is full-Thanks beer pong! I needed to request a player be added to CM's player pool, so once J.P. Feyereisen gets added, we should be full. In the meantime, give yourself the day to review the roster import. It's always tricky. I hope to start the auction later tonight or early Sunday morning. You can DM through Ottoneu or use the chat feature on CM. I'll provide a quick tutorial for those that don't know how CM works.
-
Well he was on Ottoneu today at some point so hopefully he can address it soon.
-
Hey all-I'm still efforting with getting Beer Pong into the auction. I don't want to get too aggressive during the week because we're sometimes super busy with work and family, but I'll send a direct email this weekend. I'm sure it's nothing. We wrote back and forth about the Paydala thing in January-I just hope he's doing okay.
-
Yep. I see you right there. I think it might be Beer Pong. Hmmm...sorry 'bout that.
-
Hello! I joined CM yesterday or the day before. Let me know if I have to do something else. Thnx
-
Bump this again-I think Tal Hill's Climbers is the only one left to join the CM league. Double check. Once they're in the CM auction, I'll import rosters and we can get the auction going sometime this weekend.
-
Hi all-I need everyone to join the Couch Manager auction page this week. I will begin importing rosters as people join. Follow this link:
https://www.couchmanagers.com/auctions/?auction_id=802
Password: eephus
-
Yep. We're all full. I'm going to work on the Couch Manager auction room. I'd like to start the auction sometime after March 1. I'll include instructions and whatnot as we get closer to creating the auction room.
-
looks like we're full up again. Welcome new owner!
-
FYI: I'm working on finding a replacement owner for 'Holy Owned..' If you know of someone, have them join. In the meantime, I'm trying convince 1 other person and I've put the opening on the Ottoneu community message board.
-
Hi all-Reminder that we will start our slow auction via Couch Managers. I could probably put together the draft board as early as the weekend of Feb 17-19 or March 3-5 and have everyone check their rosters and then begin the slow auction the week afterwards. Please let me know your preference. I'm trying to do CM over some longer weekends for me. If you have any questions or comments about CM and the slow auction, let me know.
-
Thanks glad to be here. I really like the active nature of the league
-
Who’s changing their name to Albert Pujols?
Welcome aboard, Mr. Lidge. I see you found Jim and his trade satisfactory.
-
Brad Lidge is sure a name I haven't thought of in a long time.
-
Hey all-we have a newly abandoned team: Not Hot Mess is not returning for the 2024 season. If you know someone interested, the team is completely open to join.
