Aaaaand, looking over the last few messages, looks like you had plans for this team. Sorry about that. If I hadn't already paid, I'd release it back to the wild.
-
Hey guys, I just picked up your open team. I'm looking forward to the draft tomorrow. I've played a few years in a free league and was looking to move to a money league. Looking at this team, I seems I've got some work to do.
-
Okay, awesome! I won't post that message then. Thanks for letting us know.

The owner of the expired team is a friend who I do many leagues with it'll be taken care of today
-
Well, that's not good that his team expired. Can't even proxy the draft now. Hopefully, we can find someone between now and then. I'll post a message to Slack to see if anyone will claim it. Is there anyone else who hasn't renewed yet, Commish?

The 10th at 9pm et works for me. Any objections?
-
Yes, let's lock this down. I've seen proposals for 3/10 at 6pm PT/9pm ET. I can do this. Commish?
-
Have we decided on 10th? Lots of drafts coming up and don’t want to double book myself.
-
Sunday night works for me
-
I'm also on the west coast so if we're going to do it on Sunday night I wouldn't want to start later than 6 pst/9 est. I could do a little earlier if that worked for the majority.
-
Are we settled on Sunday 3/10? I am on the west coast and would prefer an evening draft. How about a 6 pm PST/9 pm EST start time?
-
My schedule is pretty flexible on sundays but would prefer it not be super early for those of us on the west coast
-
I'm flexible on time. However, I don't want to start a draft at 11 ET on a Sunday. 9 pm ET would probably be my limit on starting time. Maybe 10 pm ET in a pinch.

I'd prefer either something early (7-8 AM PDT) or something late (7-8 PM PDT)
-
I'm down for anytime on March 10th.
-
Is the 10th going to be the official draft date? If so, what time are we thinking?

I can also make 3/10 work.
-
I can make March 10th work.

My apologies for the repost. I will always go with the majority vote so if owners are uncomfortable please voice and we can set guidelines and rules if need be. Also let's come up with a good time for all to do the auction March 10th. So far that's tentative but seems to be a good day after reading the responses
-
At first glance I think it comes off weird but I don't see the harm. Personally I see a player on a trade I like for no return I'm accepting it. Ive gotten these offers before in this league and other leagues so I don't find it harmful. I also think even high value players don't cause issue. Honestly a team can overspend during the season with loans and have excess of talent which can raise eyebrows. Those two offers as little as they were will affect my draft strategy.

Not to mention that anyone could have gotten Rosario and/or Britton as they were offered to everyone (or were going to be as the Commish accepted before I finished). Cozart would have been too except that I was trying to get a trade done with him late while I had that offer in for him. I could see an argument about a slippery slope if I was doing it with a $40 Harper or if only one person continuously received the offers, but that's not the case here.

I really don't think it sets any kind of dangerous precedent and it is a practice done by MLB teams. Players get basically sold to another team often with only getting cash back. The only difference in this scenario is the league benefits with less cash at auction than I do specifically. If I did it in-season with Cozart, I actually save $4 for my cap. Cash is something of value too in Ottoneu.

Ultimately, I'll go with the majority opinion regarding uneven trades, but those are my thoughts.
-
March 10th works for draft. My thoughts on uneven trades: I do understand Maker's rationale, but I think allowing them creates a dangerous precedent and is rife for abuse/collusion. If a team doesn't want to keep a guy at a particular salary, then they should either cut him or find a team that values him enough at that salary to give some sort of value in return. Otherwise, you'll end up with teams making side deals giving up players they would cut to friends for nothing or for future value.
-
I'll do the 10th if it works for all?
-
I'm not sure the original post about a draft date was meant for us, haha. However, I would be good for 3/10 and am pretty flexible on the date.

No problem and I respect that. I really only would do it for fringy/marginal players, I think. At random, I looked at Votto as he is a player in the FA pool that was cut at $58. Maybe I would give him to someone for nothing at that price. But, there's no way I would do it for $43. Thanks, and good luck to you too.

3/10 is good.

I don't think I agree that it is a good strategy, but I certainly appreciate you laying out the rationale. I recognize that everyone has different strategies and that I may not be correct in my assumptions. Good luck.

In the trade I made for Cozart, the reason I accepted is that I have no room for Cozart. Not that I don't like him, but moreso that I didn't need another MI/3B. I'm thinking he goes for around $4 anyway at auction, but I definitely don't think he will go for any more than $5. However, he could go for $1 if everyone forgets about him until the end. It's only a few dollars, but it ties up a roster spot and some cash that may be the extra $4 that the team needs for a player that I also want.

I am seeking rationale for the sending team. I accepted an offer like that earlier, yes, but I did not send the player. I still don't understand the rationale for the sender. You free up auction dollars by cutting a player as well. So, it seems that, based on your response the only "advantage" to the sending team is to handcuff the receiving team with a higher than expected salary.

Actually, trading a player for nothing can be beneficial to both teams. The receiving team gets a player they want/like without having to worry about the auction at a price they like. The team giving gets auction dollars off the table and, perhaps, in some situations has a team take a player that they do not think will go for that much at auction. It's just like the transaction that you made earlier in the offseason for Bader and Rodriguez, haha.

Can someone explain to me the advantage to a team to trade a player for nothing in return? How could that be better for a team than cutting them? Seems like that is an unfair advantage to the receiving team. If I hear no good rationale, then I will veto all such trades.

Looking to see if I can move Cozart before the deadline. Not going to give him away like I did with Rosario and Britton though, so looking for someone to keep. Please send over an offer if you are interested in him. Thanks.
