-
Ichiro and Duda were the last 2 teams last year, great job to both of them in a huge jump up the standings (i think they both took over project teams) overall, they league is much improved and more active this year. already looking forward to next year
-

For the new guys to Ottoneu (including those who joined early this year) if you have not done an offseason yet, read up on it in the Rules section. Also a tip, don't cut a bunch of guys before the keeper deadline, there will be open trading after the arbitration is completed. Trading is probably more important to building a roster than the annual auction in the spring. Many teams will keep 25-30 players. Simple economics of supply and demand influence auction prices.
-
Welcome Scott to Champlain Lake. Nice find on that roster with Judge for $5. You can rename that team when you get a chance.
-
Reminder to all, stay tuned for arbitration which begins in less than 2 weeks.
-
Congratulations to Deal It & Duck for a great fantasy baseball season and the 2017 league title. I can't keep my team next year, but I hope I have left it in good shape for a new owner to build a competitive roster for next year. I find that when I have more than 2 or 3 teams, I can't keep track of the rosters, so I will turn this team over to a new owner. But it was a fun season. Playoff prediction: Red Sox over Nats in 6 games.

thanks aberdeen and champlain, i will start looking for new managers
-
Good fight KML, looking forward to 2018 already
-
Well, despite being runner up three years in a row, I'm still up for next year. Thanks Champlain and Aberdeen - good luck in your future leagues!
-
I am probably also unable to remain with the league next year. I adopted 7 teams, and I can't keep track of them all. I would be happy to keep the team until you have an interested owner - that would make sure off-season deadlines are not missed (e.g. arbitration and keeper deadline), and I would do my best to turn over a competitive team. I just can't find time for 7 draft days, and daily lineups, and I can't keep track of who is even on 7 different rosters.
-
Hey Guys: Just a heads up that I will dropping out of Ottoneu after the season. While I enjoy the format, I'm just too busy for a league that requires daily transactions in order to be competitive. Hopefully you find a new owner willing to take on the team. Thanks for the opportunity to play.
-
I keep thinking I'm out of the running, but keep managing to just claw some points back. It could well go to the wire!
-
Missing Kershaw and Bumgarners numbers from them missing a month of starts starts. Making this a nailbiting finish. Could go down to the last day of the season
-
Two teams tied with about 10 games left to play, and Much Ado is close enough to be in the race. Should be an exciting finish. In most of my leagues, the winner has been clear for a couple of weeks already.
-
Gents: I did not mean to cut Paxton. Was trying to cut Fiers and did not notice I had Paxton's button clicked, too. If it is OK, please put him back on my squad. Thank you, Matt

Deal It & Duck's trade block has been updated!
-
I just saw that the trading deadline is later today. If you want any of my players, please send an offer.
-
Urban Shockers, I kept getting offered players that are cuts by one specific team, so wanted to make that clear. I need guys that I am going to keep next season.
-
I'm in the same boat as Little Rock Royals, if anyone sees any players on my roster that'll help them this year or someone you want to keep then let's chat. I really need some players that can help me rebuild the roster. Needing a 3B and 1B especially.
-
So you are looking to move players that have no value or ones you will cut after the season for players that have value that you wont cut?
-
I will not trade my players for players that have no value or ones you are going to cut after the season, for the record. I need a decent return back.
-
Looking to make moves for the deadline. Please send offers if interested.

except the valuable $1 assets will get arbitration dollars assigned to them and no longer be a dollar. Arbitration dollars can also be assigned to star players to raise the salary so high it makes sense to cut that player and add him to the auction
-
Thanks for the explanation, guys. Really helpful!
-
It seems like my $1 Alex Wood has become even more valuable after reading all of this. WOW!
-
I don't think it is fair to change the system at this point in the year. Teams have drafted, traded and picked up players with the assumption that the league would have one system. To change it with 3 weeks left before the trade deadline is crazy.
-
I can definitely see why some of the original drafting teams would want to keep with vote off. It would probably be a great system if we had all been together from the beginning. I had a situation in a long running keeper league I run where we did a restart due to imbalance when some teams left and didn't run their teams well. While I lost some players that I had mined over time as well it has been really good for the league and way more fun even though my team isn't as dominant.
-
Looks like the arbitration is preferred. I think this will help get some of the low salaries increased and improve the balance, competition and quality of the league.
-
Much A Duda About Nothing - was trying to offer a fairly balanced pro's and con's list, but yep - this is just one guy's opinion, so obviously take it with a pinch of salt.
-
I have quite a few very cheap players on my team, so... I prefer the vote-off mechanic! Some of the players I acquired on the cheap during a start-of-season auction that was not at full capacity, a bunch more I either traded for, or picked up mid-season for a steal. There are a few trades I would have done differently if I knew we were going to change systems, but the league has become a little unbalanced: a change will make it more tricksy for the talent-laden teams to manage their budget!
-
What KML isn't mentioning is that Arb $ would greatly impact the imbalance in the league. 2 seasons ago only 4 teams participated in the draft resulting in some insane player values. Most of the top teams in the league are the teams that participated in that draft. If you go $ over vote off the league would be in a fairer place for competition for all rather than some of the teams who are bottoming out currently.
-
The advantage of this method is that teams with a number of undervalued players will likely be assigned more money that teams with already expensive (or just worse) players, so it's a quicker method of balancing team strengths. The downside is that team managers have uncertainty over their budgets going forward, so building a dynasty is more difficult. It also reduces the award for snapping up a young talented player on the cheap, since they are more likely to be given arbitration dollars.
-
Arbitration method (proposed system): each team is given a budget of $25m, which they assign to players on other teams. They must assign at least $1m to each other team in the league, and can't assign more than $3m to a specific team. Once all the assignments are done, player's salaries increase by the amount of money assigned to them by opponents.
-
The advantage of the vote-off is that apart from this one player, other player's salaries each year will be predictable. The disadvantage is that if a team has several cheap players, only one can be voted off each season, so it can take a long time for all players to reach a "fair market price". Also, because the team who lost the vote-off player gets a $5m discount, someone has to be willing to bid $5m than the player's current price for this to have any effect.
-
Vote off (Current system): at the end of the season, every team gets to vote for 1 player on every other team to become a free agent. The player on each team with the most votes becomes a free agent, and can be purchased by anyone. HOWEVER - the team that lost the free agent gets a $5m discount when buying that player.
-
So I'm new to the whole Ottoneu thing, can someone make an argument for/against vote off or arbitration? I voted for arbitration but only out of limited knowledge. If there is still time I'd like to make a more informed vote!
-
look like 3 people left to vote, would like to have decided in the next 48 hrs please

TBD's trade block has been updated!

I'm still in favour of vote off over arbitration, but happy to go with the majority.

Hello everyone, I just joined yesterday and will be attempting to turn around this roster that I've taken on {hence all the cuts!}. As someone mentioned before who took over a team, I'm not married to anyone on my team and I'm not a contender this year. Anyone is available if it's a mutually beneficial trade. Looking forward to getting to know the league over the next couple months!
