Someone is going to get a really good deal on Jose Abreu, Justin Upton, Adam Wainwright etc.

Two teams loaded with talent and loaded with studs discourage the third, fourth, and fifth place teams from believing they can be competitive I meant to say.

I feel like the loan system as it currently is absent some other way of encouraging competition actually stifles rebuilding teams because when two teams take on $200 extra salary a piece any moveable pieces on rebuilding teams become next to valueless. For instance, Wainwright is pitching very well now but he ain't worth a dime because he's too expensive and you and fowles are tapped out. With zero other competitors all I have left to do is drop his ass.

My only qualm with penalizing the loan system is that it makes it even harder for teams that just aren't going to contend right now, to rebuild at all. This format shouldn't require a multi-year rebuild at any point but sometimes you get crushed with injuries or shitty performances and you need to move your short term assets to get the best return possible. If anyone needs a refresher on the arbitration coupon system let me know and I'll post it.
-
The arbitration coupons are still something that makes sense to me and can be implemented this offseason as a penalty for tanking but it also doesn't kill you for making the correct decisions for your team
-
I'm not saying I want that but that's the most reasonable thing I could think of that really does penalize a team but it's not absurd
-
My idea IIIFFFFFF we were going to penalize would be something like this: whatever you end up below the cap by seasons end, including outgoing and incoming loans, you'd be penalized "x" amount of what you ended up under the cap. So if it was 10%, and you ended up with 100 dollars outgoing at the end, you'd lose $10 of your cap the following season
-
The no loan league is basically a redraft league. Without loans you cannot rebuild at all and you'll just have to scrap your whole roster if you're not competitive.
-
Ah ok well Ottoneu isn't really a dynasty format. It's a keeper format.
-
Sorry, I think our messages were posted at the same time so things got out of order. I am saying my fear is how our current league is set up (commissioner Chad), if only a couple teams realistically compete, and doing this by completely reshaping their roster, it takes away from a true "dynasty" situation, where you build your team for years and make some strategic trades here and there. The only way to compete this year was for Dave and Justin to completely remake their roster.
-
Are salaries? Really Dave? Jesus. Our salaries.
-
It's something can only be done when a league starts because the inflation needs to be different. For example we couldn't just move to it now because are salaries are based on a completely different economic system.
-
I meant earlier how the league is currently set up, the fear of it becoming a league where only a couple compete by completely remaking their roster, thus taking away a "dynasty" real MLB feel to everyone's roster.
-
We did a slow auction too and those make salaries explode so guys that are more than $20 are basically not moveable.
-
Oh it's awful. My team blows and I can't move anyone because all the guys that are of equal salaries don't make sense to move. There's plenty of demand but you can't trade anyone because it's basically got to be a 1 for 1 deal. A ton of cuts happen too. For example when Bautista got hurt he and his $34 salary got cut. Reauctioned today and went for $21 and now that guy has to cut $42 worth of salary
-
Is there a way to implement a penalty into next season for loaning cash? Anything that can deter just giving fake money away. As Cobra says, it is not necessarily realistic the current situation. Although the rules are currently fair to everyone and everyone has the power to choose what they do, I think a perfect league would be heavy competition at the top with turnover due to strategic trades, not completely remaking the entire team.
-
Dave, expand on this no loans league. Do owners not have to be more savy with keeping cap space? If there are 12 active teams looking to make deals, is there not enough supply for deals to occur? I don't know the answer, but my only fear is if it becomes a league where only a couple teams realistically compete due to a couple going all in. It kind of takes away the "dynasty" feel of building a team if rosters completely change every year.

We are good at finding difference makers. If you guys want to check out a no loans league I'm in 712 and we're trying it but the consensus is that'll change next year because meaningful trades are next to impossible.
-
Oh I agree that the loans involved are not the problem. Its that like Pace says, there is no real difference between 3rd and 6th place. We need to find a difference maker in there somewhere.

The loans are good to help rebuilding go more quickly, so there's an upside. The real answer is to be better at the game so Dave and Fowles don't get out to a huge lead and have great prospects to trade. If raising the stakes makes people try harder and do better, I'm all for it raising the level of competition.
-
I'd be in favor of that too. The reality is that, after Dave and Fowles started making big deals in May and June, coupled with my injuries, it became clear that first place was doubtful. And with there being no meaningful difference between 3rd and 6th place, I started looking ahead to next year.
-
I think we should up the fee to $150-$200 so maybe people would care more also.

We can even just make this a $49.99 league and let ottoneu do the payouts
-
Completely agree on changing the payout structure.
-
I'm not saying that I think that trade was totally ridiculous but if 3rd place meant something it would be a more competitive league. We have to implement a system where every single place matters somehow.

We have to fix the payouts so the third placed team does not tank again. We can't have 10 teams tanking and 2 trying to win. It makes the entire season pointless and I'm not sure a league where 10 teams try to rebuild and 2 try to win is fun.

Moral of the story is we're not trying to become the Yankees here at the Ivys and we'd like to keep a couple of guys next season.

A team in another league I'm in is already at $788 and he's in 2nd place

How many of the #BFIB are in this league? Because they are the only hackers we have to worry about. I change my password every 4 hours because of Pace's presence, personally.

In other news that asshole from St. Louis got 46 months in prison for hacking the astros so let that be a lesson to you all

Superteams Assemble! Will Dave and Fowles kindly let us all know what they got cooked up next? I feel like we still haven't seen the Durant to the Warriors move yet that's going to put one of these teams over the edge.
