Nothing like realizing the morning kid routine got in the way of switching your starting pitcher lineup when a guy is throwing a no hitter. #fml

Rowdy Roddy Tellez. If you ever get tired of Dutch Ovens - which really isn't possible - I hope that's a contender.

Love the comments on both sides of today's Harper trade. Now who wants Murphy????
-
That's a clown offer bro!
-
Because BRYCE HARPER will cost you more than EIGHTY BUCKS to keep... I predict supplies will last.
-
Why take DANIEL MURPHY when you can have BRYCE HARPER?!?! Make me an offer. Today only. While supplies last.
-
Next up on the trading block... he's a three-time all-star... a lifetime .300 hitter who's averaging a killer 9.0 ppg leading off on his new (and first-place) team... AND he plays second base, where the pickings are pretty slim... that's right, he's DANIEL MURPHY, and he's available at just $26 in return for... not much. Best offer accepted today or tomorrow. Let's all try to overlook his homophobia.

Sixty Games Out's trade block has been updated!
-
Hi all, the fire sale is on! I went into debt to get some great players a month ago and, well, it didn't work out as planned. Dutch Ovens and B Team are too far ahead. So I need to cut or trade a bunch of excellent players. The list of possibilities includes Machado, Blackmon, Murphy, Votto, Arietta, Keuchel, Adam Jones, David Robertson -- all available at a discount before the trading deadline expires Aug. 31. So... act now! Prices are low LOW LOW!
-
I know I've paid a lot for some prospects so I'm not one to talk AT ALL, but $9 just for coming out of Craig Biggio's wife's uterus!!!???? I love it!

That's what the Mets thought they had, and almost do have.... But I'm just being argumentative. I agree that we should keep saves and holds. I just think it's interesting to ponder.
-
I also think the nature of starters is that they are the most all-weather type player in the game. A very good starting pitcher, especially in an era where going more than 7 innings is so infrequent, is the most important asset a team can have. Like, if you had two Chris Sales, one Severino, one solid Lester-like dude and an okay fifth starter who could throw a lot of innings, you would have a good team no matter what. So for fantasy, it's the same...
-
Now, whether managers and organizations are evaluating their relievers properly is another conversation, but I think that for the most part, holds and saves are a necessary boost to a relief pitcher who is otherwise very talented and deserves to be valued higher in a REAL game of baseball. Thus, he should be valued equally in our adorable little FAKE game of baseball.
-
Holds and saves, the way baseball is currently played, are things we should keep. Here's my rationale: Managers use their best relievers to protect small leads, whether it be in the 7th, 8th or 9th innings. A guy who comes in in the 6th inning to get a few outs, or a reliever who comes into the game in the 8th or 9th inning in a blowout, simply isn't being put into a situation that is as difficult. So holds and saves are important in our league, because they make us try and pick good relievers.
-
i don't think you can look at those two positions the same way
-
Yes, that's true. But in that case, shouldn't we reward starters on better teams because they appear in many more meaningful games throughout the season? How many high-pressure starts has an SP on the Marlins or the Padres or (sob) the Mets made this year? After June, none.
-
It's an interesting debate but we don't actually get a choice on individual stats. There are a few different scoring formats but I think all of them use saves and holds.
-
i disagree b/c those scenarios require a certain type of pressure tested RP. Not everyone can do it and we'd be placing the same value on some that come in a 10-3 blowout and gets 3 outs in the 5th vs. someone who comes in when its 5-3 with bases loaded and he gets his team out of that jam with no runs scoring.
-
Our league was early on wins-are-useless. I wonder if we should ditch saves and holds, too. Why should a good relief pitcher earn fewer points just because he's on a bad team that's rarely ahead when he comes in? How is that different from a good starter on a bad team?
-
The Mets Are So Bad They Killed the Win: New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom may destroy decades of baseball convention and convince even the crustiest baseball purist that the win is useless. He might be the unluckiest pitcher in history... The 30-year-old right-hander has allowed three runs or fewer in each of his last 19 starts, a stretch dating back to April 16, yet the Mets have gone just 5-14 in those games. https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-mets-are-so-bad-they-killed-the-win-1533654360

Very proud of my new acquisition, pitching sensation Dylan Covey. Today's line against the Rangers: 0 Ks, 8 hits, 3 walks, and 4 homers in 2.1 innings, for an awesome -61.73 points. Thanks, man!
