Got a hold of Lori, but she says she needs the league password to join. I dont see it anywhere. Terry, do you of Steve need to approve her or send her a link or something? Or if anyone knows the password and im just missing it haha, if you can post or message me, I'll forward it along to her
-
Yea I remember him, he was a good guy. Had some good baseball talks. Not sure if he'll remember me, but when you see him, tell him I said hi. And that hes kind of my inspiration behind the job change. Or attempt at it haha
-
Thanks. Yeah my buddy and I got visit for the former owner of Newman who had to quit when he started working for the Cards in baseball ops.
-
Yea no problem, just texted her. I'm tentatively planning on starting my drive up east on the 24th. Should take me at least 2, maybe 3, days just to get there. I guess theoretically I could draft late at night from a hotel though, but I'll have my pup with my so rather not haha. Start my internship March 2, but idk what my schedule will be like. I think I won't start working nights til the season actually starts and I have to log games. Thats awesome about ST, have fun!
-
To address the initial matter, Steve and I haven't talked yet. If people have dates that are absolutely no go, let us know or post here. I'll be out of town 2/21-2/23 and at grapefruit league spring training March 17-22, but otherwise i should be available.
-
It's Lori and Colton. They didn't re-up on the site by 1/31. As soon as they do, we'll put them back in as the owners. Speaking of, Adam, could text Lori and remind her to pay the $20? I texted Colton.
-
which two teams?
-
We are also now down two teams, no?
-
Good question. I've got a big move and new job thats gonna knock a bunch of dates out for me. Probably better to start the convo now
-
When are we doing the draft?
-
I was just saying I thought it was funny that you were involved last time. Just ironic thats all. As always you were above board then tho. Theres nothing shady about it or this process. The dick comment was just only in reference to me, nothing implied at all. Pretty sure we didnt even think about this back then. its a chill league and i love that about it. gone are the days of crazy old magic loogy and his attacks and im not trying to keep it going lol. unless its about steve, then fair game
-
Yea I was just voting that way bc I had the penalty haha. Iirc, I dont think we even thought about doing this last time, thats the part Idr. I do remember the way it went down to how I didnt get all my cuts in. You didn't do anything wrong whatsoever back then, you said you were busy and warned me any trade talk would happen late and not to wait on you. Never blamed you for what happened, you gave me ample warning I just tried to make it happen and didnt make my cuts all at once. Needed one more
-
3) I'm being shady because this didn't come up previously and I did double-dirty by not responding in time and then not allowing the cuts, but then I'm seeking to opposite treatment for my benefit. Agreed I don't remember everything from before, but I do recall suggesting you to make your cuts because I might not respond in time and I didn't want you to not make any.
Think it was a miscommunication here, which happens with text. Apologies for any misread. And clogging up the boards.
-
My apologies if I interpreted what you said wrong. The way that read to me was: 1) You didn't get to draft previously when a similar issue occurred and I shouldn't either (which is fair). 2) Implication of my being a dick because you wouldn't be one by saying I shouldn't draft, even though I'd said that previously (and even then I just thought you just couldn't make cuts and the non-draft happened because you were over $400)...
-
didnt get into it. I never meant to impeach your integrity, in fact I thought the whole situation was kind of funny since it was talking trade with you that caused me to not get all my cuts in a couple years ago. I dont hold ill will or anything. The only thing I said about being a dick is that I didn't want to be one by saying that I couldnt draft so you cant (tho now i do feel like a dick). Just meant that whatever yall decide is good with me. Sorry for the confusion and hope that clears it up
-
Whoa Terry, that message got taken completely out of context. I don't think anything about this or you is unethical. Not sure how or where I called you a dick, but I've always thought (and still do) very highly of you. You're a good dude. I was just pointing out the irony of the situation and making a joke at the end. We didn't talk about overriding the penalty last time bc I dont think it occurred to anyone. It was a couple years ago so idr what exactly was said at the time but definitely...
-
I really am fine with my situation either way. No reason for there to be rancor or discord over this. I was bothered by what seemed to be a a message saying I’m an unethical dick. Steve is quite busy the next couple of days, but this is probably a matter best handled by him when he’s available.
As for the other guys, I think we should give them more time since they took over so late and one was out of town for work then until yesterday.
-
I don’t care at all. Let the man get his roster fixed. Shit happens.
-
And I'm not saying they need to make more cuts haha. Giving them more time came to on dealing day, but I don't believe we settled on anything.

I'm also cool with giving Newman more time to make cuts, since they only had a day to get a feel for the league. Just so long as it's done a week before the draft.

Just for your reference, the rule section is VII.e. and here is the link from forum with Ottoneu owner comments https://community.ottoneu.com/t/rules-not-getting-under-the-cap/4847/10 and how I found the rule reference. I'm sorry if you feel you were screwed over. Admittedly none of us knew that rule at the time and it's reasonable for the precedent to be set. You don't have to be a jerk about it, imply that I was a dick, and then claim the higher ground. I'd rather not draft than cause issues.
-
We could just have a vote... Which would overwrite the idea that we have to go on precedence (as there are different owners now who might feel differently about the rules as they were applied before) and would take any honus off commish for being unfair if the vote favors his preference
-
I did some research, confirmed he was right, and let everyone know what his suggestion would mean. As I mentioned, I'm fine with not drafting given my mistake. If I were trying to do something underhanded like you imply, it would be a hell of a lot easier than this; I would have just made the cut using commish tools at 11 that night and said there was a lag. This is just fantasy baseball for christ's sake, I have no interest in cheating or screwing up the integrity of the league.
-
I'm fine with Terry making 1 cut, just to get his roster legal. Mistakes happen

That's fine with me. I won't be doing much more than buying $1 guys either way. I don't really appreciate the clear implication that I'm doing something untoward while you were treated unfairly. I had previously only stated my understanding of the rules based on being under budget but with illegal roster (which I believe was different from yours, but I'm not certain). Hoiles correctly disputed my interpretation and proposed the cut. (cont)
-
As the one person who got screwed in the exact same manner a couple year ago and had to sit out drafting, I vote you have to take the same penalty lol. But I'm also not a dick so I don't really care all that much about it. I'm not gonna raise a stink about it if I'm alone in that opinion. Although we never even had this discussion about circumventing the penalty when it was me haha (and fun fact, the person I was waiting til the last second to make a trade with was you Terry haha)
-
To let everyone know how the cut would work if we go that way: I would cut the player and he would be available in the auction pool to everyone at the minimum price of his salary cap penalty. Everyone (including me, one month delay doesn't apply) is allowed to bid on him. If he's taken, the cap penalty is wiped off my books as if he were taken during the season.
-
Yeah I've used those tools before when we've had wonky things happen. Did a little more digging and you're right Kyle. As of now, I would not get to do the auction. I was looking under auctions, but there's clarification in the offseason section. That being the case, my preference would obviously be to make the cut with penalty and be able to draft if there aren't any objections. However, it was my fuck up and will deal with not drafting if folks think that's the way to go.
-
That's obviously just my vote. Also in the commissioner tools there are separate buttons for cutting with penalty and cutting without so the logistics are easy
-
I'm fairly certain you won't be able to bid in the draft room. Given the options of not being able to draft and cutting someone now with penalty, I'd say I'm fine with you cutting someone if you want.
-
If everyone would prefer, I believe I can use commish tools to cut the player I intended and add the salary cap penalty to myself now. That's just not how the rules lay it out.
-
My understanding of the rules is I'll be able to bid with the cash I have under the $400 total budget and then will have to make the cut afterward to get legal. I may be wrong, just how the rules read to me. Guess I'll find out auction night when it tells me if I can bid or not. We've had this situation once before, though I think then the player was over the $400 following the deadline, so slightly different. Apologies again for the screw-up. Would have preferred to not take the hit.
-
Yeah sorry about that. I waited a little to long to hear back on a trade to make my last cut and when I went to the cut page, clock had ticked to 11. Obviously, it is not a benefit to me, as I will still have to make a cut to get a legal roster and thus will start the season with a cap penalty. Per the rules here on the site, I can't make the cut until after the auction. I'd make the cut and take the penalty now if I were able.
-
It’s evident that he won’t have money to draft and will have to cut a player following the draft to get in compliance

So commish's roster is illegal by a dollar, can you go into the draft like that?
-
Speaking from the experience of someone who has had to watch a dogshit lineup do terrible things for years in an effort to produce a winning long term plan, lower level prospects are very valuable, especially when they are truly talented. Just depends if you have the patience to wait on them
-
Hes a top ten prospect that will play AA at 19. If by years away, you mean 2021, sure.
-
Yeah. So at the $75 level, it's $400, $150, and $75 (so gets their money back, which seems reasonable to me).
-
I guess that’s not so bad. And third gets a pay out?
-
Adam - Related to paying through Ottoneu, I ran some quick numbers. With the the $5 increase to each person's pay-in (up to $75 rather than $20 to use the site and $50 to the pot), they essentially charge us $35 total out of the pot (from a potential $660 pot based on a new $55 buy-in down to a $625 pot based on their payout structure). $35 to make sure everyone pays in timely, winners get paid timely, and saving Steve and I a lot of hassle and headache seems like a pretty good deal to me.
-
Not gore, j-rod. Has no bearing on his status as a prospect. That’s just a fact of what level he’s at. He’s years away. Love him as a prospect. Almost all lower level prospects aren’t worth owning in this format so the fact that he is and has good trade value should speak to how highly I think of him
-
Pretending Julio Rodriquez and Mackenzie Gore are "Lower level prospects" is extremely disingenuous
-
That’s fair about your message tho. I said that bc I think people just haven’t been checking haha. But you never know
-
Uh you might want to check that again. I went and looked before I asked that bc I don’t usually send you offers. It was Cruz and Idk what else for gore and Julio rodriguez. Both good prospects no doubt, but lower level prospects I don’t think are as valuable with limited roster spots in this format and no surplus value bc so far away. Could be wrong but I thought that it was fair market value considering age. Clearly you didn’t haha, no worries.
-
You asked for far more for a 39 year old DH and cuts than you traded away for Chris Sale and a loan, if you want to do this. My message was simply the market might be dry cause people are too far away on asking prices.
-
Hoiles, you referencing me there? I sent you one offer and it was for two prospects. One who is in A ball.
-
A good chunk of that $ gets lost though if you have Ottoneu pay out I believe
-
Maybe asking for more surplus value and salary relief isnt attactive to potential buyers?
-
Lol agreed its been a weak trade deadline. I've got fantasy super stars on the block, some at below market costs and its been mostly crickets. Starting to pick up a little, but we'll see. Are they gonna get added in time to make moves? Its a huge disadvantage not to be able to make trades before the deadline and that team has serious potential
-
Also, anyone want to do some trading stuff? Rizzo, Brantley, Chapman, god dammit someone come trade me something. Somehow I'm trying to trade half my squad for numbers purposes and all of you just want the dudes I've been watching grow for 2 years now like luzardo and adell and shit
