Good talk.
-
Okay, that seems fair enough. In another league, I might be concerned about people not paying attention, but my sense is that this league very active and on the ball.
-
I know it's a minority opinion, but I'm all for the liberal use of vetoes/campaigning for the veto of any trade. Free to a good home may be an atypical style of trade in that the return is harder to see for one of the teams, but I'd argue it should be judged as any other trade. If, in your best estimation, any trade is unfair, veto it. With the exception of vetoes occurring at cut/trade deadlines, any vetoed deal could be re-worked to make it more fair in the league's eyes
-
... whoever I think doing so will best serve my interests?
-
I'm not actually that upset, and your last points about tying up dollars are well taken, but even you admit it would be a problem for more valuable players. So, where do we draw the line? That's all I'm saying. I would prefer at the line be at 0, but I could see how people might support a line at maybe $5, but not $10. But what if something like me comes along who doesn't care about prospects and and instead cutting my $5 and under prospects, I just give them away to...
-
That said, if you still don't like the spirit of the deal, it's up to you to veto it and stick me with those 2 guys that I had hoped to ditch. But if you're up for more, I've still got 4 guys left on my block and the deadline's only a couple hours away!
-
Since WTF is the only one who had demonstrated interest in these guys in the past week, even though they'd been on my block for some time, but was holding firm on his refusal to part with Ketel Marte, I figured I'd at least accomplish goals 2 and 3, whereas if I'd allowed the deadline to pass it would've been a failure on all 3 trade goals
-
*offers. In offseason (cut deadline) trades I'm trying to 1) improve my roster, but if possible, 2) leave as few auction dollars available to the rest of the league as possible, because the money's tied up on current rosters, and 2) prevent this year's top contenders from getting potentially good/cheap production.
-
Hey guys, sorry that I upset some of you, especially new guys who weren't here last offseason. I think the precedent of "free to a good home" trades is already established, so it's up to you to consider the players/values involved as to whether the trade is justifiable in spirit. Obviously a trade of a cheap Trout for nothing would be an entirely different beast. But as Chris said, I was pushing these guys pretty hard and didn't get much tangible interest, even in the form of counter-o
-
I don't think this particular trade is a big deal either, but it could be a big deal if it sets a precedent for being able to dump any player of any value prior to the cut deadline. I think it's important to establish what we're all okay with. I don't think anyone is a bad person for wanting to go in that direction, but I personally don't think it's a good idea, and would at least like there to be a debate/vote about it.
-
I don't see the big deal. I wouldn't pay those prices, so more power to him for sticking someone one with overpriced bench guys.

Why don't we let him determine the values of all the players then and just get rid of the auction? To be consistent with your argument, you would also have to support such a move if it was a $40 player that he couldn't afford to keep. Moreover, how good he is as a manager is irrelevant as I'm not making an argument based in paternalism. I'm making an argument that it sets a bad precedent.
-
Those guys have been available all offseason and anyone could have traded for them. There's a pretty good argument to be made that both are overpriced. Frank is in the best position to know what level of interest the league has in these guys. And we're talking about a player that put up 18,400 points last season and is a lock to contend this year. It may not work out for him, but I think he should be able to run his team the way he thinks is best.

Did I just join a league with friends passing players? Arod would go for more than $4. If this is how this league rolls? I'm because that's BS! Just release your players! Not everyone had a chance to just have Arod given to them. You offered him to me in about four trades trying to get a good return. Now your just giving him away?

You don't think Arod will get $4 at auction? I don't think it sets a good precedent. What if it was higher valued player that someone was forced to cut, but instead gave them away for nothing. Anyway, I will veto and encourage others to do the same.
-
I couldn't fit them in my budget, but they're still quality players. I wanted to make sure they didn't go for too little $ at the auction.
-
There is no cost to cutting players before the deadline, therefore no need to offload to another team. Am I missing something?
-
Giving away players midseason is one thing (donating team gets cap room, roster spot), but what is the justification in the offseason?

Anyone willing to make a last minute deal? I'm willing to deal Severino for a young, similarly priced MI or OF.

I've been active in trade talks with many of you and have even gotten some offers I probably should have taken. Looking at my team, I want to find out if we can make a run with this core unit. With that said, I'd be willing to trade Lucas sims, benintendi, joc pederson, happ (2nd ranked 2b prospect), Meyer, and Frazier. In a package for different prospects or for someone inexpensive who can help now. Thanks guys. Love the league so far. I've been in a fan graphs points league for five years.
