The trade deadline is end of day tomorrow/Friday. We're paying out the top 4 spots in this league, so a lot of teams in the mix for money. Make some trades! (payout is 50%, 25%, 15%, 10%).

Gang, I'm out. My AL-Only team is doing poorly enough to prove that I shouldn't try Al & NL leagues. If anyone knows of a RW person looking to join the league, they can take my team over now, if interested (fees are already paid). Good luck to all you guys. I gotta stick to just the AL (or maybe just NBA). Sorry.

This is a good read for those wondering about how many catchers to start and other questions:

Time to pay the entry fee (now that everyone hates their team). It's $20. Paypal it to me at peter@rotowire.com. Or WI folks pay me in the office. Payouts are:
1st: $120
2nd: $60
3rd: $40
4th: $20
If that all does't work, let me know.

Need a closer. Quite ironic, given my team name. Willing to move a solid player and/or give a loan.
-
Ottoneu Buddies, anyone need a power bat? I've got Jake Lamb (only $2), Steven Souza or Eric Hosmer to deal for some starting pitching.

Reading the rules, he stays at 50% of his initial salary all season as his minimum bid.

i see the minimum bid on released players (like familia) is half their purchase price (i think). when will that go away and they can be bid for a $1? or will that never go away?

Let's just open the flood gates on free agents. Post free agents whenever and as many as you want.
Just be very careful not to bid too much on any and have less money than players needed to get to $40. We're almost all down to $1 players and hoping we win the coin flip on those.

Auction update: Time to make it where every team can start their own auction. Please limit yourself to starting only 1-2 auctions per day. And please don't start on a Thursday or Friday so that auctions end during the weekend. Once the regular season starts, there will be no limits on free agent timing or quantity. But let's keep it not too crazy during the "draft" part.
We've auctioned 225 players and many teams need to buy $1 and $2 players, so it's unfair now if I only nominate.

I think you can cut a player before you get to 40. Not sure. If so, you get half the money you paid for him back.

Can you cut a player before all 40 spots are filled?
-
You do need to buy all 40 roster spots, so be prepared.

Posted in the "ottoneu community" regarding the coin flip. This was a reply I received:
A coin flip is a metaphor for a random number generator.
The first tiebreaker is the lower team in the standings
The second tiebreaker, in the case of no standings or two teams bidding the same amount and also tied in the standings, is the system randomly picking a team using a random number generator.

I’m not sure of the tiebreaker. The commish doesn’t get involved. So maybe random? Not sure

so is the 'coin flip' in auction ties an ottoneu computer generated coin flip or is the commish flipping a coin at home?

I thought auctions took 24 hours for players but it's 48. I'll start a few more today as a result.

Auctions have started. You should get an email for each one. Or click --Players --> Auctions and you can see them all listed on one page.
Let's just have the 3 I started today so everyone gets a feel. Then lets just have me as commish start the auctions for awhile. I'll do like 5-10 a day and see if that pace works for us. Then later when we're down to $1 players it can be a free-for-all as far as who starts the auctions. Let me know any questions.

Reminder that our auction is at 7:30 pm CT tonight! We'll aim to go about 2 hours and then see how long everyone can or wants to keep going. Then we'll fill out the rest of the rosters in free agency.

That's for free agents during the year. That is correct. The bid reverts to $1 more than 2nd place. It's called a Vickrey auction.

Quction question: Rule says that "The player is awarded to the team who has made the highest bid, and his salary is $1 more than the second highest bid". So if I bid $20 on a guy and the second highest bid is $11, then I win that player for $12?? Is the rule for during the auction 'draft' coming up and for FAAB auctions during the season?

I changed the league settings to 5x5. I thought that's what they were. So it's a standard roto format.
