Best of luck to you all as we enter the season, and don’t forget to set your lineups!
-
We are officially “live”. You should be able to set your rosters, initiate trade offers, cut players, etc. best of luck to all. For owners who have Dodgers or Cubs, keep in mind the time zone for the first two games

just got back on-line post work and see that my last player was purchased successfully, and for the sake of completeness and per our commissioner's request, my auction is complete. have doublechecked my roster against expectations per Santo's request and see no problems. thanks all and good luck this year!
-
And with that the auction is completed. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR ROSTERS. I don’t think we missed anyone and everyone looks good against the check that I did; but do a pass yourself to be safe. Fill in-season abilities (trades, cuts, etc.) will be enabled once Noot completes the transition. Best of luck to everyone this season.
-
I’m tapping out, as well. Let’s rock! Good luck everyone, let’s hope we don’t have too many injuries.

Me too — I’m done. Thanks to Nootbaar and Santo for your great work and patience with the auction — I greatly appreciate your efforts!

I’ve dropped clocks down to 8/6 for any final auctions today. Please get any final auctions you’re interested started. I’m going to remove all remaining nominations at 3pm east coast/12 noon west coast. So that I can tidy up and close everything out to tonight.
-
My roster is full.
-
My roster is full once Santo moves Verlander over. Thanks again for all your effort guys.
-
so, asking for a friend, is this a "taksies backies" league...
-
I added a fourth nomination for everyone so we can hopefully knock out dollar days today. If you want more I can add on a case by case basis as needed.
-
If everyone could indicate when they are done drafting here, Santo can close down the auction and I can take care of things on Ottoneu to allow us to proceed with roster cuts/trading, etc. I am done drafting.

Let’s let the dust settle and get this draft done.
-
Hi Warning - yes I used the Doodle app last year to try to schedule and as Santo noted tried over 30 times for the auction, never had more than 10 owners confirm it worked. That’s what lead us to the slow draft this year.
-
3/3 Last, in another league we use a scheduling tool that is an online calendar that makes it logistically easier to find a day that works for the group. I wonder if it could be used say in the fall to schedule the auction for march? It seems like that would give the group plenty of time to set aside an evening/weekend day to knock out the auction. Happy to share if helpful! good luck to everyone!
-
2/3 3) CM is a different way to auction players and I've not tried it before. there is definitely a different strategy and a different experience. it's fine but I prefer my dopamine hits coming all at once rather than over the course of many days. I totally acknowledge that this is a preference and I can get behind any approach. I do think if we are using CM there may need to be some guidleines around strategic behaviors.
-
1/3 I'll echo many of the themes that have already been shared by others, and as the new guy I totally get it if you don't care to hear my thoughts!! 1) - much appreciation for those responsible for herding cats. having been a commish I understand it's a thankless task! 2) no one's fault that CM was a turd burger to start, and it really doesn't shade my view of how the auction is accomplished.
-
2/2. We could even set the date after arbitration ends in November, so people have four months to plan ahead. Having said this, I do appreciate, especially Santo and Noot for the work they’ve done to put this thing together. Through no fault of their own, Couch managers was a mess that first week. What I’m finding is that I’m putting in many, many more hours on this than I would the live auction. I’m checking my iPad 8–10 times a day, just to keep current. Not a couple times a day

1/2 Checking back in, I agree with Santo that we shouldn’t take any votes on next year’s format until at least this thing is over, if not when the regular season ends. Playing devils advocate again with the idea that we can never get everyone to agree on a date/time, I’ll give you a couple for instances. I’ve been part of a yahoo league that for the last 20 years has set the date and time every year. I’m also part of a CBS league that has done the same thing for 30+ years.

Nothing personal to Santos, who I appreciate putting in the effort to make this CM auction happen… but I prefer the 1 night auction. The slow auction is taking too long, IMO. I’d rather get it over with
-
To be clear, I really appreciate all the effort the commissioner(s) are putting in to try and make the Couch Managers thing work. But I don't have the time to check in frequently throughout the day without my computer, where I have all my draft/auction prep. I base my whole draft prep on bidding on a single player at a time. To do it with up to 36 players at a time doesn't work for me. The slow draft had me just picking guys with the highest p/gm or p/ip and inputting a high bid. Not fun.
-
If you’re not enjoying it; I truly am sorry. I really wish you were. My hope in proposing it last season was to help ease the stress of finding a time that worked for everyone; nothing more. I wasn’t trying to force anyone into something they didn’t want to do. As far as the future, I do think the league as a whole should decide now so people can make informed decisions on whether or not to renew teams for next season when the time comes.
-
I’m happy to draft either way; don’t really care. For reference, I don’t consider myself a commissioner; just helping ease the admin burden on Noot while we knock the draft out. As far as I’m concerned, he is commish and has final word. FWIW, I went back and looked at last season, 32 slots on 23 days with no consensus. That is why we gave CM a go this year. We’re all in multiple leagues and want to draft as close to opening day as possible; there’s only so much time in the 3 weeks ahead of it.
-
Message got cut off... I will be voting for Option A as I think we have solid commissioners who care about the league and that's not easy to replace. Again, if they are willing to continue.
-
+1 Thank you. Being commish is not fun. I propose that we vote on next year's draft format now, so we can all move on. Reading the threads, the vote is between:
Option A: Slow draft + keep Nootbar and/or Santo as commish (assuming they're willing to continue).
Option B: Live draft + someone needs to step up and offer to be commish.
If nobody is even willing to be commish under Option B, we should default to Option A in my opinion. Is anyone up for that? Not me, as I will be vot

+1 thank you Noot and Sando. I've had good experiences with couch manager drafts in the past. Unlucky this time - force majeure.

I am thankful for all you have done Noot. Especially challenging with the way couchmanagers site took a crap 2x. Kudos to you and Santo for keeping us on track!
-
So yes, I could just pick a date and announce it well in advance, but I don’t think that works with 12 busy people. And the reason I don’t think so it that it hasn’t worked for us in years. And at least 10 owners were in favor of trying a slow draft this year (which I’ve done entirely from my phone, while traveling). Next year, someone else can step up and take over as Commissioner and then they can take charge of this. And I’m grateful for all of Santo’s help this year.
-
My two cents as the commissioner are to remind that we have not had a live draft with all 12 owners in years. So the notion that it worked fine up to now is wrong. It worked fine if you were able to make it. And it’s been many different owners who weren’t able to make it. Last year we tried at least a dozen dates and none worked for all twelve.
-
i really liked the slow draft. It really helped me think through the auctions and change course and strategy. People should give it a few years before concluding otherwise. Actual season is 7 months long - why not use the time to draft thoughtfully than a rush draft.

For what it’s worth, I also prefer the old single night auction — much more exciting and requires better advanced prep and immediate decisions. Scheduling is always going to be a problem but with advance notice and today's technology, a single night auction is workable for everyone with no excuses or complaints (and this is coming from experience — I missed a large portion of the auction for my first year in the league and had to build my roster from the scrap pile, and I survived).
-
We basically say that if you can’t make it, get someone else to do the draft for you. We shouldn’t have it held up because a person can’t make it. With three months in advance notice, everybody shows up.
I personally hate these slow drafts. I don’t have the time to look at it. And I do have to sit in front of a computer to do it. It’s not as easy just to check it Twice a day. It requires a lot more thought.
If we do this again next year, I think I will pass on the le

Seeing as the league on Ottoneu is only 10 years old, I'm assuming the other years were on a different platform? We've done a poll every year I've been part (this is year 4) and have always strived to find a date that fits everyone's schedule. At no point has commish set a date/time and said make this or oh well too bad; nor has that ever happened in any league that I've ever been a part of. We all pay to be part of the league which means everyone deserves the right to draft their team.
-
1/2. So just my two cents worth. I run two other fantasy leagues. Every year we set the draft day and time three months in advance. Usually, it’s the same Day and time every year - 3rd Saturday morning in March. We tell everyone that we’re not changing the time or the day. If you know the day and time three months in advance, you can schedule around it. We never use a poll to pick the best day and time because it never works for the same reasons, it doesn’t work here.
-
Santo, I know you’re fairly new to the league, but we were able to pull off the live auction for 13 straight years until this year. Here’s the thing I don’t get, most leagues the commissioner sets the date and time one or two months out everyone knows when the draft/auction is. You block that time off. One team doesn’t hold the league hostage. If you can’t make it, you get backup to proxy for you. It’s not that difficult.

5.) Lastly, I hated my first CM draft I did; now it's my favorite way to draft. Coming into it with a closed mind is going to lead to disliking it. A fast auction is going to force a decision on whether or not to bid; I suggest approaching CM that way. The more waffling between contingencies as opposed to attacking your targets; the most frustrated you're going to be. If you're not enjoying it, I'm truly sorry; but remember trying to get the 12 of us to agree on a time? Because that sucked...
-
3.) AGAIN, the clock resets on any high bid by a new owner under 8 hours. That includes during the clock pause. Meaning a new overnight high bid (during the pause) would result in 8hrs plus whatever is left in the pause to respond.
4.) For all the reasons outlined, the clock pause exists. Mostly, in my opinion, to help ease the difference in time zones. 4hrs seems appropriate to me because we should all be able to make up our minds in the 12hrs (8hr reset + 4hr pause), whether or not to bi
-
2.) I think the ability to pivot between multiple players during a slow auction is a plus. It's luxury nonexistent in a live auction; the chance to gauge multiple players to try and find the best fit. If you miss out on X in a live auction, then miss out on Y; you're SOL. In my opinion, you're complaining about a flexibility that you wouldn't otherwise have. If you don't enjoy that mechanic of CM, that's fine; but the end (based on draft theory) the results aren' going to be all that different.
-
So a few notes from my perspective:
1.) Getting 12 strangers to agree on a draft time is an incredibly difficult task. If I recall correctly we did 6 polls for draft times last year, landed without a consensus and one owner missed out on drafting. Setting the draft is the most stressful and hardest part of being commissioner. Bombo, if you want to up the duty of coordinating and scheduling the draft, I'm sure Noot will happily oblige. Regardless, this ensures everyone a fair shot at drafti

I think one thing we may all agree on was that the two hour live auction was so, so, so much easier than this quagmire. Not blaming Santo and Noot, because Coach managers was a s***show the first week, but I’m voting we go back to the live auction next year. It served us well for 12 years and it’s so much more fun and exciting than this tooth pulling contest. In my humble opinion, of course. 😉

Except funds are tied up if a player is bid on in this platform, so...with more funds your previous examples are moot. In your examples you mention time remaining of 1 hr when pause starts 2am EST or 11pm PST without the pause you can monitor until auction ends 3am EST or midnight PST and then decide which direction you want to go. The pause is the problem here or a lack of funds to bid on multiple players. Lets be honest with $20 to spend and 8 roster spots its dollar days time anyway.
-
I’m enjoying the slow draft but agree with Bombo that the nighttime pause is necessary since you cannot conditionally bid on players. It helps to have this going on in waking hours for those times when your future bidding depends on whether or not you win a player. This happened to me last night - I was only going to bid on player X if I didn’t win player Y. That doesn’t work if auctions are ending at 2 AM.
-
Boys, it’s not so much about limited funds, but more of what I feel the particular player is worth.
