Kind of a unique transaction but ultimately I can see the appeal for both sides.
-
Hit it right on the head (at least from my standpoint)…made the move with the sole intention of cutting him to create some cap flexibility both immediately and over the coming months.
-
To be clear, I'm not insinuating anything bad... just curious to hear their perspective thought processes.
-
From Santo’s standpoint it’s a way to create salary cap. From Chief’s perspective he put Chapman on the block and gets value for him. Just a creative trade.
-
MC was already traded? Well that was a great FA signing by the Giants …

So.. what’s the deal with the Matt Chapman trade?
-
Hey all, apologies for missing the draft -- I got sick yesterday and was asleep before 8. Fortunately, my roster is fairly full, so I'll close out with Free Agents.

The draft is now done - you are all free to trade, cut, add, etc. Set your rosters for March 20 for those of you w/Dodgers or Padres.
-
Should be fine. Let’s just try to start on time!
-
Thanks everyone for making this work.

Ok -thank you Brian and Dan for showing flexibility. I pushed back the start time on the 3/18 to 9 EST/8 Central/ 6 PsT. Calvin, I hope that will work for you.
-
I haven't heard from the league yet, but I'll figure out something if they say no. I'm in for the 18th.

If Dan can make the 18th work for a live auction, let’s go with it (ideally an hour or two later than the current 6 pm CST) and I’ll try to make it work (and if I can’t, I’m okay hitting the waiver wire to complete my roster)

I just submitted for latest doodle. Still think we should consider slow draft given scheduling difficulties. In long run, would prevent the scheduling nightmare each season. But I’ll do live if that’s what people want. I am east coast fyi so the late start times are a bit rough.
-
Hey guys, sorry I’ve been quiet. I have been voting on dates/times though. My desire is to do this live. Date and time don’t matter as much as ‘how’. All my tools are setup for a live auction.
-
I have a trial beginning on 3/18 and it would be very difficult to join a draft that evening.

I'll check with the league about moving my practice from that Monday. I should have an answer early tomorrow.

For the two (Dan/Brian) who said no to 3/18, would starting later help? I know Group W (Dan) said he has stuff til 10pm that night, but not sure what time zone he’s in. Could a 10:30pm CT work? Not sure if we have east coasters or not…
-
I’m happy to draft next week if everyone is magically available, but I’m guessing not everyone has completed prep yet. Weekend is a bit tricky, but I could swing Thurs/Fri night.
-
So far only 7/12 managers have filled out the final poll. However, :) indicated here last night that nothing listed worked, but did not fill out said poll. Ideally, everyone else completes it to get a realistic view of where things actually sit, but a consensus doesn’t seem likely at the moment.
-
I'm just asking, because catching up with everything due to a ton of traveling, but last I saw for Sunday, Feb 25, from 2-5pm 7/7 responded they could do the auction then. Did others outside of that indicate they weren't available?

I’m central time, so I set earliest at 11AM figuring that 9AM was doable should anyone be on the west coast.
-
Ok - I see the times as 9am. Please keep in mind that I’m on the west coast and I would not do an auction at 6am. But this is academic because we already have people who said the times don’t work.
-
I did see 11 AM to 2 PM, but what I’m proposing is 3 to 4 hours earlier than that. Unless I missed something, I don’t think we’ve ever proposed that in the past

Bombo - yes, those were included in the options that are in the survey Santo sent
-
Hey all, in one last effort to find a time where everyone could join, I don’t think we’ve ever looked at having it early on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Something like 7–10 or 8–11, give or take. Just thought I’d toss it out there and see if it’s doable in general.

The slow draft is made exactly for this situation

If none on the new poll work for :) that will make 32 time slots over 23 days polled without a league-wide consensus. Seems like slow draft or bust...
-
thanks Santo. none of the extra days work for me unfortunately.

In an effort to aid the commish, I've created one additional poll encompassing dates we haven't already tried. This opens up into the last week of Feb., some weekend afternoons, and past the Korea games. Personally, I'm ok missing out on two games if it helps the league find a time that works for everyone. Group W, I've accounted for no M/T/W on availability. If the shifting the time an hour one way or the other would work, please mark yellow (if needed), comment here, and we can try to shift.

As someone who actively does both most seasons: a live auction is definitely more fun, but getting 12 people to line up schedules is difficult. I also travel a fair amount for work, usually working long (12+ hr) days in the process. Personally, I haven’t found a slow draft to be a burden in the process; or at least any more than setting my lineup daily. Slow or live, I don’t really care. FWIW, I am more than happy to answer any questions related to a slow draft to aid in the decision process.
-
Very similar to in season auctions except there are several happening simultaneously. If each player has 2 nominations it could be up to 24 auctions happening at once. Couch manager notifies via text or email if you are up to nominate, you have won an auction, or if you have been outbid. User can set notification preferences.
-
The alternative to holding a slow draft is March 18. That date had 10 positive responses, and every other date had fewer than that. As I said, I polled 13 dates. If anyone else wants to run another poll and try to pull a rabbit of the hat, please go ahead and do that.
-
If we were to do a slow draft, I would propose to start that in early March, which would give us enough time to complete it. Others who have participated in a slow draft can comment, but I have the sense that it would feel more like the regular-season auctions we have - the owner nominates a player and you'd have 24 hours (for example) to submit bids, and you can set your bid as an "up-to" amount. (1/2)
-
For the same reasons that Bombo said, I will be traveling, and it will be really difficult to pay attention for two weeks to what is going on for the draft. If there’s anyway, we can just block out a three hour window of time to do it, I think that’s the only way I will be able to do it.
-
I guess there has to be someone that still prefers the one and done method. I’m doing a lot of traveling these days, daily, actually. Depending on when this is - as it seems to have overwhelming support, I may be more settled down to check. But right now, that would be really difficult.

I'm fine with a slow draft as well.
-
So far, 7 owners have agreed to the idea of a slow draft using couchmanager. I'm waiting for the response from 4 owners before I start working on that, so pls respond Y/N if you haven't done so.
-
I'm flexible for pretty much any time other than the weekend of March 8th. Happy to do a slow draft too.

My experience is about 10-12 days depending on how it’s set up. We generally do 24hr clock, reset to 12hr on new bids below that (basically in place of overnight pauses). 2 noms to start, bump to 3 once major players are gone (generally day 4/5). Eligibility issues are minor, usually only a few players that are fairly obvious. I was hesitant (and truthfully didn’t enjoy it) at first, but have come to enjoy it…definitely a slight learning curve and mental adjustment to make.

Good feedback. If we started early March do you think that would be enough time?
-
Other Ottoneu league i have done this in, it has gone really smoothly. Think we started with 12 hour auctions reset to 8 when outbid, paused overnight, each owner having 1 nomination to start. Once auction was flowing and everyone was comfortable increased the number of nominations to 2 or 3. I did not feel like position eligibility was that hard to navigate. Guessing that entire slow draft took 2 weeks maybe.
I am in favor. It eliminates the trouble scheduling a draft day for 12 ow
-
My understanding is that there is a lot of variability allowed - e.g. the amount of time player auctions are live, the number of players each owner can nominate per round, etc. One comment was that the position eligibility in Ottoney and CM doesn't match, so people would have to be very careful about that. Lastly, the downside of an auction like this is that a lot can happen before the season begins. So I don't quite know how to handle the timing (when should we start it, etc?). (2/2)
