But dude, everyone else would have already filled their rosters. You’d be selecting from the players no one else wanted…
Wouldn’t that logic follow that the best strategy then would be to cut your entire roster so you can outlast the other owners and get all these great $1 players?
-
And don't get me wrong, outlasting other owners is still a viable draft strategy. The cost to implement that strategy, however, is to bid at least $1 on a player every turn. This subjects you to the risk that no one else wants that player and you win them; eating up a roster spot and moving you closer to being locked out of the draft.

Consider the best strategy for all owners. If skipping nominations is allowed, then every owner would be best suited to skip their nominations every turn until they outlasted all the other owners. Once everyone else left, you could bid on everyone for $1 and win them. If the players you want are truly worth $1, than show up and bid them early. The fact you intend to come late suggests you hope to snag more valuable players that remain.

I asked how it was unfair. If your spots are filled, what does the rest of the draft matter? You got your guys.
-
There’s plenty of community posts about skipping nominations and the benefits of being last in the auction.

How is it unfair would you could have nominated them earlier without the late owner competing? Not looking to chance an argument here, but that makes no sense. So if a team has 20 open spots and the next closest team has 15, they shouldn’t be able to stay on and fill their 5 spots while all other rosters are full?
-
Hi all. I had thought I’d skip the draft since I only have three players to get but I think I’ll stop in and try to draft them early then skip out (I will mark complete so the software skips me)

During the draft, teams are unable to cut players. Therefore, once a team reaches 40 players or runs out of $, they can no long bid on players. Joining the draft late gives owners an unfair opportunity to bid on players without competition. The cost to have the chance to nominate and bid late/last is to nominate someone at each round.

I was going to pop in late to get my 5 $1 players, but if that’s some kind of issue I’ll skip the draft as well.
-
I've done another draft where the commissioners used the pause button mid-draft to handle that issue. The idea is to momentarily pause the draft, message the person who hasn't nominated, and allow them to nominate if they respond. Their nomination will be skipped if they don't respond, and if the same manager misses back-to-back nominations then they would be skipped for the rest of the draft.
-
Also, just a heads up that Napalm Bombs is skipping the draft.
-
I've gotten concerns from other managers that showing up late (and skipping required nominations) might give an unfair advantage. In the past we've manually blocked managers who skip twice. What does everyone else think?
-
How late do you expect?
-
I’ll probably be a little late tomorrow so please don’t wait for me.

Draft is tomorrow!

3/19 at 5:30 PT works for me
-
OK, sounds like we can probably lock in 3/19 at 5:30 PT
-
I’m good with 3/19 at 5 PT, 30 min later would be helpful if at all possible.
-
Yes re: 3/19 at 5pm pacific. A little later (530 or 6) would be fine as well.
-
Speaking of traveling (or whatever) it's good to have redundancy in the Commissioner's office, and Titans has volunteered to be co-commish.
-
I can do Sunday 3/19 at 5PM Pacific. I'd also be OK with it being a later time, but I realize that can get tough for other time zones.

Same time on 3/19?

Sorry everyone, I'm not sure why I hadn't blocked that weekend yet. I will be traveling that weekend.

I'm good with 4 or 4:30 if that works better. Definitely want to accommodate all time zones.
-
I’d strongly prefer it gets pushed back 30-60 minutes but if 3/26 at 5 PT works for everyone else, then I will make it work . Thanks for arranging!
-
Works on my end, thank you.
-
Last year we did the last Sunday in March at 5PM PT. Does 3/26, 5PM PT work for everyone?
-
Hi everyone, I took the liberty of updating the google doc to try to figure out which days remaining didn't have a conflict. From what I can see, Saturday 3/12, Saturday 3/19, Saturday 3/25 or Sun 3/26 were the weekend days that did have an objection. In an effort to get this on the board, I proposed we pick one of those to ensure we don't get shut out (is that still a thing? Only a certain number of drafts can happen at one time?)
-Rob
-
I haven't filled it in, but I am pretty flexible (no kids, permanent WFH). My preference would be mid-afternoons or later on weekends to accommodate all time zones (I'm PT).
-
Looks like more folks have filled out the draft availability sheet...great! If we'd prefer a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, it seems like either Superbowl Sunday (Feb 12th) might still be open (unless some folks forgot it was that day) or we are looking at mid-March (10th, 11th & 12th). Should we try and get a date soon so folks can plan to keep time open?

List updated. Generally I would vote for Sunday night (eastern) but will work around what people can do.

Hey everyone! We have a new Google Doc to help sort out a draft day (hat tip to LT!): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dZEsWQ2B9_ObQw8pUjRuRzdxeWxPRwYC7ZiGHfcDquo/edit#gid=0

Hey everyone, Oppo Taco Dave dropped out... but at least he did Arbitration. So if you know anyone looking to join, we have an opening.

Welcome Dave! Also, great season everyone. It was my first time playing fantasy baseball of any kind. Not too bummed about 4th! Looking forward to next year.

Welcome to the league Dave!

Thanks boys.
The more I look at the roster, the more I'm realising how much of a challenge this will be... lol what was this guy doing?
When the time comes for the trade gate to open, it's going to be a fire sale on my end.

Welcome Dave! Best of luck turning around your roster!

I’ve been playing fantasy for years now but last season was my first for Ottoneu.
Looking forward to taking on a new challenge!

Hey everyone, and happy Postseason! I was informed that BloodSweatTears will not be returning next season.

And don't tune out of ottoneu yet, arbitration starts end of next week.
