feels weird to have justify this shit trade i made, but also (1) feel free to veto... i know some folks are firmly anti-veto, but i am 100% an ottoneu novice still getting his bearings straight (or whatever the idiom is); (2) a great pitcher with a decent amount of surplus on a wildly mediocre team i inherited in a tough spot, so i grabbed some growth/upside pieces (and lonald "lonnie" chisenhall, who embodies both, right?... right?... guys?); (3) i did actually send brad some nudes on

one other cut on this - in 2016, there were 144 SP who threw 100+ IP and CMart was 29th at 4.74 P/IP. In 2017, 134 SP threw 100+ IP and CMart was 35th at 4.47. Interestingly, over the two years, only 129 SP threw 200+ IP and he was 26th at 4.60. but, basically, he is roughly a borderline top 30 SP. Are there 30 pitchers worth $18+? Maybe? I think that $18 is about right-ish.

martinez was not worth $18 last year, i don't think, but he projects to more than that this year, assuming his HR/FB rate corrects. which...maybe it won't.

I voted to approve the trade, because I almost never don't. And I don't think it's egregious at all. But even after trying several possible tweaks of the auction calculator I can't make it say that Martinez is anywhere close to $18—it's often closer to double that. Not that the auction calculator is the end all be all, by any means. But it seems like it shouldn't be that far removed from however Brad might determine value.

No, it's points per unit of resource. In this case, IP. Total points are only relevant if people fall short of the maxes.

That statement makes no sense... The name of the game is total points accumulation; BA doesn't directly correlate to winning titles in the MLB...

14 starters hit 900+ points in 2017... only 4 are cheaper than Martinez. The return was 3-4 players you probably would have cut.

Meant to weigh in on this a few days ago: I'm super NOT into the slow draft. I'd also prefer to draft in March, so I might be able to get my co-worker to help me draft, otherwise a Sunday at like noon or 1 Eastern would be fine.

We could do that or use couchmanagers.com. That's a bit of a better experience but doesn't change that you have to check in at least once every 24 hours (or longer if we set it longer) or miss guys. Let's just aim for mid Feb

We'd probably each nominate one player per day or something similar. I'm strongly in favor of doing a live draft. Slow drafts on ottoneu are even more interminable than the live ones. Also means everybody has to be available at least every other day.

How would a slow draft work? Just take turns nominating players through waivers?

(on a slightly more helpful note, I am fine with a couple of options to deal with this - 1) let's act fast and find a date in mid-feb or 2) let's do a slow draft)

if we just start at the same time this year, that should work. i mean, it's not like you'll be doing anything else from 1-4 a.m., right?

The date isn't so bad for me...but it's the time. If we draft before Feb 20 or so, I'll still be stateside, but after (and I would assume and honestly prefer after), I'll be living in Ireland by then.
