Thanks! There is a team with $400 in loans ahead of me. Wild.

Just now noticed that PTBNL is in spot 23 on the Global leaderboards! Nice. Well done 😁

Yeah, trades with big loans were at risk to veto basically if folks thought it was out of wack. I believe it was me trading Byron Buxton (as a minor leaguer) for Evan Longoria. People thought it was an unfair trade with the loan. It's amusing, because Evan fell off a cliff and Byron didn't amount to much.

For the record, I was the only one in the top 4 without a loan before Trust sent his offers over.

Yeah I think this loan rule, the 3 days of being over cap rule, and allowing players to be dropped if they have TJ or season ending injury (between end of roster cuts and the draft) would be good ones to vote on.
Maybe we could vote on these (or others people bring up) that are specific to our league and then we could just drop them into the message board so that everyone can see the rules at the start of the year? Maybe decide as a league how often to revisit? This is a great le

Yeah, sorry. I thought it was agreed upon but it might have been longer ago than I thought. These recent trades seem pretty balanced and I didn't mean to criticize any specific team. Someone can hold $500+ worth of players during the off season to make decisions regarding injuries/new info before the January cut date, compared to $400. But we can revisit in the off-season if anyone feels it's important. Thanks all!
-
I would be fine with a cap on loans as well. I wasn’t aware of a definitive rule but knew it was rarely attempted in this league. I am fine with whatever the broader group thinks.
-
I also recall there being some limits to cash in a trade but it was many seasons ago. It definitely is challenging to keep track

Yeah, looking at the rules there's nothing in there. As a new member I read all the rules, if it's not in there I don't know how it could be enforced at this point really.

This came up very early in the league, year 1 or 2. As years went by and teams changed hands we've had trades with higher loans but it is relatively rare due to this history. So much times gone by now and so many teams have changed hands that it might be interesting to revisit but I think it is best left to off-season. This is of course only my recollection of events others are free to add their understanding to fill in the picture for those who weren't here
-
It was never a rule and was always contraversial. Some members felt strongly that there should be a per transaction cap on loans, others including me and John (fmr commish) disagreed. I would describe what resulted from this as a kind of stalemate wherein nothing prohibited large loans, but trades with them risked a veto (plus some members wouldn't do them on principle) and were thus rarely attempted.

This is my 5th year playing... so maybe this was a rule before I started as well?

Yeah I also didn't know about this $25 rule.. I feel like I basically went from a buyer to seller this year (for same player Harper). I was also a buyer last year and have traded some great prospects (like Wander) because I was in "win now" mode. Now that I am on the seller side I don't think it would be fair to change the rules after the fact. I'm okay doing a rule like that in the future (if rest of the league agrees), but I think it should be clearly established before season st

Sorry if that was a rule. 2020 was my first year in the league, I didn't see that rule posted anywhere and it never came up, so if it's a thing I had no clue.

On June 21 a trade proceeded with $35 as a loan, without objections raised. On the other hand, I am not sure I was already in the league when a limit was set, but I don’t remember that particular rule. Happy to hear arguments, but from my viewpoint as a fellow owner, I did not take issue with today’s accepted trades.

Hey All, A few years ago we put a $25 loan limit on the amount that could be sent in each trade. Is this no longer a rule? This was to keep trades balanced, hinder top teams from "buying" championships, and hinder teams from having much higher salary caps that can be used in different ways. I support what the commish/league thinks, but this is something I recommend that we keep in place. Thanks.
-
There are no new rules. You should maintain a legal roster during the season which includes the salary cap and roster limits. If you are over either the cap or roster limits, you should make cuts as soon as possible.
-
It shouldn’t just be indefinite, if you’re already rebuilding for next year there’s no reason not to just go over the cap and hold everyone if you don’t care about the points to begin with.

Just to clarify, was a new rule made? Or are we just asking that we get under the cap asap? It seems like a team over the cap has always been penalized by not being able to change their lineup and bid/claim any future players, so I don't see a reason to add an additional penalty. But that's just my vote. I support whatever the commish/group decides. Thanks all!
-
So sorry to hear of this, Seager Bros! Hope the best for you and your recovery!!!

When I click on the wrench and screwdriver icon I see Aug 31 as the deadline. But I miss the banner too

Hey Commishes, when is our trade deadline? Perhaps it’s my view but I’m not seeing the usual banner on the top of the League page.

Got it, new expectation for everyone isn't bad persay and I am down with following the expectation now that it's out there. Sorry about screwing things up folks. I will make sure to check the team that often from here on out. Also, the commish we have my phone number now.
-
This is not connected to being in last place or not, this is connected with a reasonable expectation on the part of everyone that owners remain engaged throughout the season. We believe 3-4 days is a reasonable period.

Announcements:
1. All the players have been put back on Seager's team per his request.
2. We put back Acuna on Seager's team and appropiate cuts have been made in the meantime
3. We reaffirm that owners have the obligation to remedy illegal team immediately. It is not true that "as a last place team, I assumed I could disengage for a week without a problem".

I honestly thought that I could leave my last place team alone for a week or so without thinking about it and I could fix things when I had the time.
-
Cutting my team was an over reaction and a mistake, I asked the commish to fix it. I am sorry, I was scrambling for something to do and I was just so hurt by what happened.
-
Enjoy
-
Also, like I said before, we had this happen multiple times over multiple years and there was never any penalty like this, it smacks of impropriety and a lack of fairness in how this situation is being handled versus how the others were in the past. I had a justifiable expectation that this wouldn't happen. I heard about it because the U30 owner texted me about it, not because I'm logged in. I shouldn't have had to worry.
-
I am happy to put the "rule" to a vote: when an owner due to winning an auction puts their team over the limit in terms of salary cap or amount of players on the roster, that owner should take action immediately to remedy the situation, but in worst case will have a maximum of 4 days to remedy the situation, before the commissioner will take the action of removing that player from the owners roster that caused this owner to be over the limit in the first place". Yay or nay.

John never used the system to penalize a team, only to help fix mistakes. If there were league specific rules, like our cut an injured keeper player if it's a life changing thing is a rule people know about and agreed to. This is baloney.
-
I made cuts and then I got distracted. The only penalty we have ever enforced for a team being over the cap was that the team couldn't make any moves and couldn't be in the auctions. This new made up rule was the sort of thing John wouldn't have done and I disagree with it. 3-4 days is an arbitrary number and it reeks of bad sportsmanship. Institute a league rule, vote on it, and then everyone knows it's there. Don't make up fake penalties because you don't like what the system allows.

I too am sorry about your health problems and echo Mookie's sentiment. To the decision, not only did you make cuts after Acuna was added you also logged into the league on July 19th which is after my initial post about you needing to make additional cuts. In addition to sending messages in Otto, we also emailed you on July 19th.
-
First and foremost, so sorry to hear of your health problems. Hopefully things are improving for you! Health/lifestyle changes are definitely challenging.
But, in my opinion, your add/cut history shows you making cuts on the 17th after Acuna was added to your roster. If I’m not mistaken, you’ve been in the league since the beginning and you know this league has always required a high activity level and 3-4 days seems fair to me.

Didn't want to have to tell the whole league I had heart attack about a month ago and the 3 blood thinners I am on, plus the new lifestyle changes like diet and exercise have kept me a bit of kilter, so I didn't see any of this until about 5 min ago. Didn't even wait a week to hear from me.
-
Weird you guys seemed to has this all out on a thread without even waiting for a response from me. What's the rush for everyone else to get an injured player?
-
I'd you could talk to me versus giving me an ultimatum that would be cool. Yah, was hoping Glyber would be auctioned. Since we didn't have a rule in place like this to just make a commish rule about it is kind of a dick thing to do. We have had players in previous years go without their roster being legal for over a month. Your not even going to make it a league vote to make a time limit or penalty just arbitrarily impose it at this point and in this case?
-
Didn't see this, wish folks would send an email to my Gmail or call me. I had a heart attack so I haven't been following the league closely.
-
The 2nd highest bidder plan seems the most ethical to me. Now I’m wishing I put in the bid I had in mind! :) Hopefully Seager is ok

To be honest, anything besides Seager cutting who they need to cut to get under the cap so the rest of us can bid / claim / etc. is pretty weak at this point, but whatever you guys decide is what it is.

(continued) been away from his computer, or just not sure what the best course was. So I think he should be given the benefit of the doubt and make the roster moves he wants to make (instead of it just being taken away). 3-4 days seems fair to me... but I'd be down with whatever the league thought :)

This is just my two cents... but I would agree with your thought about Acuna going to the second highest bidder (U-30 for $46... what a contract!). However, I would make that the backup plan so that Seager has a chance to act and make the cuts. IMO Seager he is not technically breaking the rules... but is definitely breaking the spirit of the game / league. I personally would want him to have 3-4 days to make a decision on cuts, then go with U-30 if no action is made. Seager may have been...

Redo the auction is another option, but due to the results of the previois auction being public, there is a degree of unfairness in the second auction compared to the first auction, because folks can now adjust their values. So that is why it is not the first preference.

First action taken: Acuña is off Seager’s team. Now we are debating what the best course of action is. We propose that we resolve the Acuña auction as if the highest bid did not exist, which means putting him on the second highest bidder’s team. In this case, that would mean U-30 get Acuña for $46.

The roster is locked, so the lineup will not change, but players in the lineup continue to accrue points. We wrote to Seager several times over the last few days without response. Some form of action is imminent.

Kind of surprised the system just lets it stay over for days? The other sites I'm on locks the roster and points until the cap issue is resolved. Strange.
