Happy Opening Day all! It's finally here!

Ted Williams is my hero. Also, imagine if Babe Ruth didn't play drunk and if he had taken it more seriously... And he was a pitcher. Blows the mind. GOAT.

thanks dave. that's super clutch. my clicking fingers thank you.

Thanks for the tip, Dave - so many fewer clicks to make! On a related note, I found this nugget on my team's news page about Ken Giles: "Giles is unavailable to pitch Friday after sleeping on his shoulder wrong."

Alright league, check this out: select your team up top, then choose news from the options on the 2nd line to see all your team's news on one page. Congratulations, you're life has been forever transformed!

Completely agree with Ouroboros! I also can’t stop looking at my roster. Maintaining competitiveness is very important, and active owners and a great commissioner are key. Seems we have both. Looking forward to the season.

thanks to all for making the draft go so smoothly yesterday.
i feel really good about how all of the owners have positioned themselves for the season.
it's always my goal to have this be the most competitive league in ottoneu.
i think that we will be that this year. i'm excited for all the things.
and i can't stop checking my roster to stare at all the shiny new things santa brought.
baseball is fun.
-
hey all, a few things.
it'd be swell if everyone logged in by 4:20 or so to make sure there are no last minute hiccups.
the first few rounds always have a few people who can't remember how to nominate. reacquaint yourself with the process and have a few names ready and queued up.
the draft goes as long as there is someone with money and spots. so strategize accordingly, but feel free to up and leave as soon as you got what you came for.
text or call me with any questions (215) 287-4994.

Lmao

this won't work, but is anyone planning on being late to/forgetting or otherwise complicating the start of the draft on saturday? if so, please raise your hand.
-
Jofer rule is all good by me.
-
but maybe i'm wrong. remind if so.
-
alright. i'm gonna cut him. sorry for the worst telenovela of all time in terms of arc and ending. as an addendum, as i can remember it, and would thus like it to be, the policy of this league has been that if a player dies in real life then they are solemnly and unceremoniously removed from the team that they were on with on effect on the cap. i feel strongly that this is a human rule and would probably to adversarial if others were vociferously opposed to it for moral or other reasons.
-
ok. i would cut cueto if literally no one cares and thinks it's legit. if anyone (literally anyone) is at all even a tad queasy about the whole shebang, just message me or peep out loud in some other non-conspicuous manner and i happily won't. that's currently where i'm at. good either way though. thanks all.
-
Ditto, I'm fine with being able to cut players up until the draft if they are out for the year . . . like Cueto.

I am fine with cutting Cueto and/or anyone seriously injured before the draft as that has been standard in this league. Not a fan of the free one cut rule. Good luck to all.
-
Then again, if the conclusion is that there will be no free cuts whatsoever, I will not be the one making a problem.
Theoretically, you could make a trade with a new owner to swap a cheap player for Cueto and the new owner then cuts him for free as part of his slate of cuts... Just saying, if you really want to get rid of him, you could...

In principle, my idea is that Ottoneu comes with the rules that it has and they should be observed. Then again, sometimes the rules do not make sense and exceptions can be made. For example, we could agree that everyone is entitled to 1 additional free cut until the day before the draft. I don't think this distorts the competition in anyway, because the cut player would be availble for the draft. After the draft, everything changes and there shouldn't be anymore free cuts :-)

thanks for the response. i'm not going to cut cueto. i was a dummy and there should be a tax on that. i'll just cut him right after the draft and imagine the freed up money from half his salary was my reward for drafting like a boss.
the only other cuts that will happen before the draft are from the two new managers if they have any. thanks again.
i'm super looking forward to the draft and to the season.
-
I also favor keeping the cut deadline, I also favor giving a commissioner broad latitude to determine when special circumstances warrant an exception
-
thanks for your thoughts. they seem sound.
i can't not hear myself just being whinny about this.
i appreciate your fair-mindedness.
-
I’d vote for keeping it the same it has been. I think there is gamesmanship about choosing who you want to ride with and rolling dice on people you cut who you may regret after the fact (I know I have one like that in my head). However, I do like how we have been flexible about season ending injuries prior to the draft which you can’t predict. I’d Vote for cutting Cueto since he’s out all year and just dead money. But I’d vote for not changing back the cut date since roster moves have

but (only if there were no objections of any kind by any league member) tentatively like to float the idea of having our leagues final cut deadline be either 1 or 2 weeks away from our draft date. so that'd be either tomorrow or next sunday. i don't want to die on this hill. it's just a thought. if anyone opposes it i'll drop the notion and lug the dead-weight of cueto's shame on my shoulders all season. i'm excited for the season. i think it will be the best one yet.
-
relatedly, i don't want to spark anything contentious. i like the structure of ottoneu and its rules. but i'm still a bit hazy about why there is a deadline for cuts on january 31. things happen between then and the draft that influence things and when there are salaries attached it just seems like a buggy imposition. and yes, i'm mostly mad at myself for not knowing that cueto is out for the season and i've got a small stack of dollars tied to his corpsey spot on my roster.
-
ok. the draft is set and we have a full league. i'll be making some cuts in the next few days for the two managers that claimed teams after the cut deadline.
-
Let's do it!
-
4:30 on March 2? last call for vociferous reasons why not. last call.
-
Sounds good 4:30pm ET would be best for me. I have tickets to a bball game later that evening.
-
seems so. unless there's a hard no from someone. anyone?

March 2nd looks open right now for me.
-
I can probably do the 2nd and 10th
-
I can do March 2nd if we start later in the afternoon, say 4:30pm eastern at the earliest. I can do the other weekends in March too, but it sounds like March 2 is the day we are focusing on for now
-
march 2 or 10 work for me. preferably late afternoon (3 or 4)
-
March 2nd works best for me too (the 23 and 24 can also work well)

The 2nd works for me. I can also do 23rd and 24th. The only dates I can’t do are 9th, 10th, 30th and 31st.
-
I can do all the dates Benny mentioned, with March 2nd and 10th working better as well. I'm assuming we'll do 5 pm ET / 2 pm PT like we've done in the past for the draft start time?
-
I should add that 23 and 24 are less solid than 2 and 10.

cool. can you send me their contact info?

I have a friend who has some Otto experience interested in Jet City

also, I could use advice on how best to fill the two vacancies in the league with top-notch owners who will be no maintenance.

today is the last day to make cuts. so do, or don't.
