I feel that if someone read the rules... there is a non-zero percent chance that they may have waited till Sunday to drop someone, knowing that it would be impossible for someone else to pickup said player (as auctions [both Free Agent and Waiver] shouldn't be started at that point). However, if we don't implement the rules... then they are potentially penalized. Not good.
-
After reading the official rules it does seem like we should have been prevented from starting auctions by the end of day Friday since we have a 48 window and it says we shouldn't be allowed to add once the regular season is over.
Personally I hope we don't go along with that. This is a dynasty so we all are looking to upgrade our roster at all times. And it makes even less sense that playoff teams would be locked from making moves as again that is how I interpret the written rule

Section V.h: "Transactions can be requested from the day of the annual draft until the next-to-last day of the regular season. All auctions must be completed prior to midnight of the last day of games of the season. For example, if the last game of the season is on a Sunday , all auctions must be started by midnight Eastern Time on Friday night"
-
But no, non playoff teams are not frozen from making moves. There's no such limitation/rule. All my dynasty leagues allow this (while my redraft leagues freeze, of course, since there's no reason to make moves)

So... just to be clear... is that what the rules say or not?

So add away!

I don't have problems with teams staying engaged in making moves up til we can't make moves anymore. as a matter of deference, they shouldn't be grabbing players that are being auctioned to make starts. But long term holds are fine. It's dynasty.
The alternative would be to freeze rosters (so that only playoff teams add, but then we revert back to pre-playoff rosters post playoffs), but that messes up salaries and would mean teams can drop $50m injured players just to add players

Yes, well done gents. Appreciate the rework. Happy to share that I have approved as well. :)
Side note - I've truly enjoyed playing with such an active and engaged group of teams and hope that this is just the first year of a long-running successful league together. Good luck to everyone with playoff implications this week... well, you know, except for Oakland! ;)

Commish deserves credit for trying to find a solution to uphold the integrity of the league, but I too was surprised that the deal was canceled before seeing the veto count. I respect Saguaro’s personal feelings towards using vetos, but disagree as nowhere in the rules does it say this is strictly reserved for collusion. This IS our tool as owners to uphold integrity and police ourselves. I just hope that teams pay attention and prevent blatantly lopsided deals of occurring in the first place.

I got your point. I was trying to be courteous.
i cant promise this wont happen again. Or that there wont be other “rule” adjustments for the good of the league — which i understand won’t sit well with the strict constructionists
So i understand if that prevents a return— though i hope thats not the case
In this case, If i do nothing, a quarter of the league is upset. And If i do something a quarter of the league is upset. But, here, the teams can resend t

I think you are missing the point commish... We don't want you making decisions that aren't in the rules. I'm more likely to walk away from a league because I don't trust the commish, than I am because a majority did or didn't veto a trade

But appreciate the discussion.

So you have two days to make the same trade or a variant. Your call. It’s not effecting either of you making the playoffs and hasn’t prevented the trade from ultimately going through

The trade imbalance was bad. And i tried to justify it for the teams. And ive seen leagues fall apart bc of this type of trade. So I felt the feedback & my 10+ years of exp necessitated the veto. Plus Oakland didn’t respond to me. Manfred did.
I certainly didnt benefit from it, It only hurt me to veto because of the starts it gave to Manfred this week instead of losing them
But that said. I won’t cancel if you resend it. I’ll use a regular vote to register my

I've bit my tongue a couple times... but I think I'd like to chime in on this. I feel like the Commish is indeed working in favor of league continuity (at the moment), however, I don't like the fact that he's implementing solutions to problems before polling the rest of us. I feel like it is an abuse of power, and am worried about his future decisions.
-
This seems like a big overreach of commissioner power to kill the trade before the 24 hour vote process completed. Rule 6.d. is clear on how the approve/veto process is supposed to work. I’m not going to agree to any compromises if this league is not willing to follow the written rules.

I know that's not going to make everyone happy but ultimately my revised trade idea is a compromise deal that tries to uphold the high integrity of the league, retain invested managers for next year, while allowing two savvy trading partners enjoy the fruits of their late season trade that can work for both sides...

While the remaining players are still giving Oakland and advantage for the playoff run this year, the return is strong enough (to me) for Manfred that it makes sense in dynasty (obviously would not in redraft). But the one part that still doesn’t fit (for me) is Ober for Wade. Can the teams agree to a revised deal and remove those two players?
The AquaSox on
August 29, 2024 2:24 PM

So that leaves Ober for Lamonte. While the players are about the same age (Ober is 29/Lamont 30), pitching age is different than hitter’s ages. And Ober is returning an outstanding 4.77 P/IP for 677 pts on the year almost doubling Lamont’s (389) (and Lamont is batting just .234 over the last month). So of all the involved players, to me, it’s down to this part doesn’t make sense (why give up a productive good cheap pitcher for a part time aging player who may not even be around next year).

Luis is scoring a higher trade value than Harris, Harris is younger so no problem. So I’ll think of that part like that and put wade to the side. Then Bregman for Joey Ortiz (meh, but ok, Bregman is 30, ortiz is 26 and the trade value is ballpark). Next up Fried (30) for Gore (25). again, trade value difference in favor of Fried, but age makes it up and the potential for Gore (is ballpark fair). Holliday for Ozzie is fair. I don’t have a problem with that.

I've run a trade analyzer & as we'd expect, the trade is imbalanced, but the trade analyzer doesn't take into account age & the potential of Jackson Holliday. & I understand the salary dump & get younger part, but initially, I didn't get Luis Robert for LaMonte Wade. Lamont is 30 and Luis is 27. Luis Rob is having a down year, but still better than Wade with the potential to be 1.5-2x better. But what if it’s Luis Robert for Michael Harris.

I am in many Ottoneu leagues, and have been in more over the years. I have never vetoed a trade, and will not veto this one either. Collusion is the only reason I would cast a veto.

I won't repeat the arguments already mentioned, which I agree with. I understand each team's position and the reasoning behind it, but it does seem too unbalanced to me.
-
No offense to Oakland or Manfred as I understand the thinking behind both teams at this point in the year, but not afraid to share openly that I veto'd. For the integrity of the league, I hope others agree because this is about as lopsided as it gets. Sorry guys.

Is it even? No. Can I understand it? Yes. Is it collusion? Probably not. These two managers have never dealt together in the past. It seems like a lot to give up for the return... I'm wondering why it doesn't seem like the seller was more active in trying to sell off pieces, and get more value? In any case... one team is getting better for this year, and one team is dumping long-term salary, and getting a couple decent prospects.
-
Any thoughts on the pending Fried/Albies etc for Holliday/Harris etc trade? (Besides from the two involved teams)
