If we go over roster limit bc teams haven’t designated IL60 players, were fine right (except we’ll be locked)? I cant find the ottoneu rules regarding how long a team would conceivably have to come into compliance. For the Preseason, I’ve seen leagues enforce no time limit since teams don’t desu(but games do start 3/18 though not for most teams).
Once the regular season starts, and a team doesn’t cut from being over limit, bedsides being locked, is there any other penalty?
-
Good reminder to review the in-season roster rules (linked on top right of league page). Unless 60-day IL, regular IL players still count toward roster. From rules: "If a player is suspended, on the 60-day IL, on the COVID-19 IL, or opted out of the MLB season, an additional player can be added to the roster. However, this player will still count against the salary cap, and cap penalties will be enforced as normal for any transactions brought about by the player's status changing."
-
guys are about to be designated IL (particularly CHC and LAD) so we shouldn't be too hard on some teams (about being over roster limits) if they have a about to be IL guy...
-
Oh thanks, you’re right and I had to change a setting. Should be good to start auctions now!
-
Unless I'm missing something, it looks like we can't yet add players to auction. I assume when I go to a player and see "Auctions Are Not Allowed At This Time" at the top of his page that means I can't offer that player up for auction (yet)?
-
We’ll call the draft done with last auction of Austin Barnes. Any other players who were either up for auction or not yet nominated can now be added for auction here and we’ll treat them as in-season adds with a 48hr blind auction. All can set a max bid, but if winning puts you over roster or salary capacity you’ll have to make drops to get back under. For those new to ottoneu, keep in mind that drops carry a salary cap penalty of 50% of salary until the player is re-rostered by someone.
-
Seems like consensus is to just run the rest of the auction on this site. When do we start? (Sorry again... new guy questions...)
-
Fine. it wont lock us out for not nominating will it?
-
Whatever is simplest for you.

Good with me either way too

I'm good with whichever. Thanks for staying on top of things, IR! Seems like we are getting close to the end anyhow.

So CM is back up but apparently the old server completely died and they don’t have a data backup after last Sunday. I added players won here up to a few hours before the crash so what I might suggest is we just call the draft over and move remaining auctions over here. Any team can nominate and bid here and auctions all take 24 hours. Otherwise if people prefer finishing on CM we can restart tomorrow but any players who were up for auction when it crashed need to be renominated. Thoughts?
-
According to the community forum the server crashed again. I hadn't checked since around 11am so not sure how many auctions were still active or if we'll need to reset things again once it gets back up.
-
CM is down for me too

Ok, draft is 'fixed' and has restarted - I reset all clocks for players who were won after Sean Manaea to 5 hours and gave everyone 1 nomination since I can't remember how those were distributed when things went down. The board should start to clear quickly this evening since many bids are already in on the players nominated yesterday, so feel free to use those additional nominations too.
-
And IR, you were right, Sean Manea was definitely the last "won" player before the freeze
-
I'd vote not to reset it, but if you do, can you shorten them all to 5 hours (the redos)
-
we're back!
-
Thanks for the updates, Commish! I propose we reset the timers for players won after Manaea to 5 hours and carry on from there.
-
Mobile appears to be back up so I went in and paused our draft. When I'm able to get in on desktop I'll try to set all the players whose timers expired after Manaea back to active auction or make them available for re-auction so that when things are stable we can resume from where we were when things went down.

It sounds like Mike is working closely with his hosting company to get everything back up. They have data as of yesterday when the downtime started, and the main problem has been that the new beefier server he moved to failed immediately. His hosting company is on it and hopefully we’ll see a positive update soon.
-
I think the old CM server was strained and then they tried to move to a bigger one over the weekend in response to all the lagging. And that crashed everything. I'm still having issues with some other unrelated websites today too, and both Microsoft and Spotify were down for a bit early this AM, so it seems like the whole internet is struggling this week.
-
Seems insane to move to a new server right before MLB season starts

It's definitely still down for me as well. On the ottoneu forum Niv (founder of ottoneu) mentioned CM is dealing with an emergency update so whenever that's done hopefully all auctions will revert to how they were yesterday when it crashed. If not, I was online around the time of the crash and can manually remove any players won after Sean Manaea and we can re-auction them if needed.

I’m getting notices about bids but am not able to access the site

Evidently the owner of CM has had to take the site offline to upgrade/reboot the server. At least someone’s working on it, but I expect it will probably be offline until tomorrow.
-
Yeah it wouldn't let me go into the settings so I refreshed and now the site is down for me, too. This is really annoying - never had an issue with CM like this before and am guessing they couldn't handle the traffic of everyone starting drafts this weekend. But not great. I'll keep trying to get in and as soon as I do I'll hit pause. I believe Sean Manaea was last player drafted so worst case we can try to put things back the way they were. Also need to fix Big Papi's keeper still.
-
I really like the format for the auction. But would echo loading/refreshing the site has been struggling for me across several devices since we started. Receiving a 404 not found at the moment.
-
Yep mine is now 404 down 😢

I wasn't as worried when it was just slow. Now I'm getting safety warnings from each browser I try. Could be something more significant than just too much traffic.
-
Yeah mine has been awful since last night. Can't really do anything

Though now of course it’s loading for me instantly. Happy to pause or keep it going until the overnight pause if anyone feels strongly either way.
-
It’s really struggling for me today too, and I have three drafts going currently which is a real pain. Several other websites are slow to load too. May be a larger outage of some sort. If I can get back in I can pause it for today and hope the bandwidth is better tomorrow if that seems best.

Has Couch Managers been down this afternoon for you all? Or is it just me?
-
Little mistake in my roster on CM : I don't have Spencer Jones SP from TB but I had Spencer Jones OF from NY Yankees
-
Draft has started! Good luck, everyone!
-
Awesome and makes sense. Thanks for the tutorial, IR.
-
I’m running another draft that started this week that you can see as an example of how it’s working - there are about 18 players currently on auction with time remaining ranging from 1-8 hours for each so you can move to Plan B or C if you lose out on a player: https://www.couchmanagers.com/auctions/?auction_id=1106
-
The key difference for a slow draft is that the clocks are long and multiple players are up for auction at once. For our draft all teams will be able to nominate two players at a time and bids can be entered eBay-style for a minimum of 10 hours. If a new high bid is entered as the clock is winding down, the clock resets to 4 hours to allow time for others to respond. The trick is managing roster needs and budget with multiple auctions simultaneously, but it’s not as bad as it sounds.
-
First time using Couch Managers (or doing a slow auction, honestly...). I assume only one player is nominated at a time? I see the 10 hour time limit, but does lack of bidding shorten the window in any way (I'm trying to figure out how we can draft as many guys as we have to draft going 10 hours at a time)?
-
Keepers are loaded! Take a minute to review your rosters on CM to make sure I didn't accidentally add a player with the same name on a wrong team. I'll hit start on the draft tomorrow morning around 8am Eastern! Good luck, all.
-
Sorry, just joined CM
-
Just joined the auction. Sorry, didn't realize I needed to take that step
-
Still need 3 teams to join so we can load keepers and start Saturday. One team is using a different name, so three of the four of Tap Man, St Elmo, Richmond Sox, and Big Papi need to sign up. Password is interpol and link is here: https://www.couchmanagers.com/auctions/?auction_id=1107

The slow draft has worked really well the last two years!
