The way the this league is constructed, we pretty much roster the top 50 prospects on mlb pipeline. Each team on average has like 4-5 prospects at any given time. rebuilding teams more than contenders. Anyone prospect rostered outside the top 50 has a higher likelyhood of being a bust vs an impactful fantasy player in my opinion. I don't really want to have to roster all these mid level single A/CPX prospects who chances are will never play on my team even 3-5 years down the road.
-
Also, as usual, I'll answer any and all questions...not just about this but anything Ottoneu so never be afraid to ask...
-
So when called up, the MiLB players start at $1 but once they are on your 40 man, they are eligible for the off-season arbitration dollars being added by all the other teams in the league. So, if they are performing well, they are liable to quickly attract dollars.
An example would be that I had Spencer Strider...he performed well, got a lot of dollars thrown at him and since I had traded off other assets to acquire MiLB prospects, he ended up at $24 in year two. (and then got hu

Yes and no, there's a draft for the MiLB players each year, separate from the normal draft. Those players are tradeable at any time. I'm currently rebuilding the team that I took over there and continue to trade off players to help contenders to stack MiLB players. In that league there is a max of 12 MiLB slots to fill.
It helps you to potentially keep the players longer and aligns with real-life MLB in that rookies make league minimums until arb eligible.
-
I kinda like how it’s set up now where we auction minor leaguers during the year and it sets their value off the bat. It sounds like that would be changed.
-
I don't want to run off anyone by adding too much to it. I just want to run a good league. I'm always open to ideas/suggestions on what we could do but I'm also perfectly fine running it within the standard site rules.
If anyone is interested in seeing more, it is league# 1077, you can just change the number in the URL for our league. I could also send screenshots in our Slack channel for anyone that wants to see the Google Sheet that is the MiLB roster.
-
I'm no way trying to homogenize the leagues so they are the same. I know that one is run differently than a default Ottoneu league. I was more curious to what everyone here thought about the idea in general and also if there was any interest in something like that here. I joined that league as my first time playing Ottoneu and it was a couple of years in so I was WAY behind the curve on learning the site, the rules, and that.
-
There would be no effect on salary cap. In the other league I'm in, the separate MiLB roster are all at $0 while they are on that roster and they do not count as part of your 40 man. As commish, I can make them a "restricted player" in the player pool and they would be highlighted in red. No one could auction them. When the player gets called up, you post a message here saying you'd like to call them up and they hit your roster at $1 and then count on your 40 man.
-
I'm just getting used to the way it is right now. For someone like me that isn't quite up to speed with all the players/minors it would be hard to compete with some of you guys that could scoop up even more players to put on hold. How would it affect salary cap? Maybe I'm not understanding it fully?
-
Melon: heard and noted
Brooklyn: yes. Extra work but mostly for me as commish.
The main pro/con is that it frees up your 40 man for more current help buuuut it means the waiver/auction wire is thinner during the season.
I’m fine with whatever you all want I just wanted to offer it up as a possibility to see what everyone thought.
Those that haven’t chimed in, please feel free. If its the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard, it’s okay to say that
-
That sounds like an extra layer of work.
-
I vote to keep the configuration as is. Plenty complicated enough already!
-
Quick thought/proposal for this offseason and going into 2025...
Any interest in a separate MiLB roster? Meaning, each team would have slots available, based on total IP and AB/s from the previous season, for MiLB players that have not made their MLB debut yet.
The other league I am in here does this and keeps the separate roster on Google Sheets for all to see. There are lots of moving parts and pros/cons. I just thought I'd float the idea for discussion...I'm fin

Anybody in Denver?

I'd be in for a happy hour. It has been fun so far. Looking forward to the end of season process now that I have a better understanding of how things work. I didn't field a whole roster for at least the 2 first weeks.
-
Well fellas, it's that time of year. I am looking at selling and playing for another year.

1.5 years strong! Love this league. We should do a happy hour one night and watch a playoff game together this year on zoom or something.
-
Just want to chime in and say I appreciate how well this league functions…trades, banters, competitiveness…you should see the drama in the other league im in…rock on fellas!

That auction list is a mile long!

Braves are really about to go from having 8 all stars last year to none this year... I know what your thinking and I agree Ozuna should be an all star but unfortunately his name is not Ohtani so I don't think he is going to get that spot. Anyway lets all play rocky top and cheer for the VOLS to win their super tomorrow. Cheers fellas!

In case anyone forgot or didn't know, friendly reminder that you can re-auction players that you dropped to try and get back some salary cap space. As long as their minimum salary is above $1, you can reauction and get half of it back each time you do it, which you are allowed to do every 30 days. Who knows, maybe someone else bids and takes their salary completely off your cap space...?
Good luck out there...
-
Yeah he'll probably get sent down again this year. But I'm all in for the long term.
-
Haha i forgot to bid. I think he will be a solid pitcher once he gets some more experience. Looked pretty good last night.

I was going to be dropping Acuna at the end of the season. He was just too expensive. Now I have some flexibility. If Yordan wakes up I'll be sitting pretty.
-
That Vlad for Strider switcheroo is panning out, at least right now…
-
Brutal…making me have flashbacks to the Strider news…
-
Whew! It's a good thing H Town rejected my trade offers for Acuna.
-
Yordan just got expensive…. Losing Ronnie oooofffff

The baseball gods said they were tired of seein Ronnie not hustle too…poof…lost a second season to the exploding ACL
-
He’s one hell of a clubhouse guy for the Giants…!
-
All without Yordan ever playing a game for us. Lol!
-
Giants, you can shorten your name to Awake now...you made it to the top of the standings! 🤣
-
Discussion is good. We all value players differently for different reasons. Keep on trading, y'all... ✌
-
Oh wow! I thought for sure that one was going down. Thanks for all the input everyone.
-
Alright,Trademageddon has passed…moving along.
-
I was one of the two teams to veto the wheeler trade, and I've approved this Yordan one. I thought the wheeler one was far more egregious personally
But i think its a good example that trades look different to everyone and that's why the veto exists. Get out there and review those trades!
-
The previous trades involving Clase and Wheeler (transparency - involving me) were deals perfectly in line with playing for the future and building your roster. I think this one currently under review may have pushed the envelope a bit with people's expectations.
It is what it is, I think we all know what you are trying to accomplish with the roster. I have to admit, TinderDate made me laugh with the "this deal is ass" comment.
-
I'll just say, and it's in agreement with Brooklyn's advice to Giants, if I'm giving up Yordan +$40, I'd personally want a lot more back than KC and Ford. I think the issue for those with an issue is the top player plus the $40 and the minimal return. The optics are, giving away the player to someone in the Top 3. The premise of the trade is understandable. The execution of the trade is puzzling.
As commish, I'm not lobbying for or against, I'm trying to connect the dots for all
-
Veto this trade or not, I am still going to keep rebuilding for next year
-
Clearly this is a trade with an eye towards next season and not the current. Lets take a look at my team's circumstances: nearly 1/3 of the season done, I'm in last or near last, no hope of getting to top 3 for a payout this year. But wait! Its a dynasty league! Lets not sit on my hands and feel bad about all my high salary players that are getting me nowhere this year. Lets trade them for cheap assets and build for the future. Look at my 2 prior trades with Clase and Wheeler...
-
For those asking, this is straight from the Ottoneu Rules Page...
"After a trade is confirmed, league managers have 24 or 48 hours to review the trade, per league settings. If a majority (50% + 1 vote) of league managers object to the trade, it will not be finalized. This clock begins automatically once both teams have accepted the trade on the site"
So in our case, it's 24 hours to review and it would take 7 veto votes for any trade to be blocked by the leagu
-
Funky makes some very valid points...appreciate your perspective.
Wakey Giants - thanks for supplying your perspective
At the end of the day, everyone in the league can vote on any trade, either to approve or to veto. So, however you feel about the trade (not just this one but all trades) I would encourage everyone to review it and vote your feelings.
