You can also pick up the one dollar players for “free” because the worst thing is you cut them and have the same penalty as before.
-
Ya, I got caught in that. I over bid by one and cut three players trying to catch up. I thought maybe you had a system for turning your roster over that minimized the penalty. I like what Synonym shared. Makes sense.
-
I had some injuries, four pitchers went down, a few pitchers I picked up because they were preforming well at the time, suddenly imploded, and I had a real tough time trying to find enough pitchers to get 10 starts a week, which I realize now is not worth forcing. Plus, a few trades required rebalancing the bench. A number of my drops were done JUST to clear cap space in the least painful way possible. It's been 75% damage control.
-
Tip. If you go to rosters and look at the bottom you can see the guys that you have cut if any of them are over 1$, and were cut 30+ day ago, you can start and auction and bid the minimum. If you win just cut the player and you’ll get half your budget loss back for that player.
-
And on the subject of system, I have noticed that you like to turn over your roster....alot. I am new to Ottoneu but it seems like you will run out of cap space that way. What am i missing?
-
I see your point Sus but I do think it is a bit more gray. I agree with you that this is not a 100% game, I learned that years ago. But it is a 5% game. The winner is the one who is 5% more correct then the others. And that is not the baseball God's. That is work and system.
-
I guess my point was only that we are never more wrong than when we think we know something for sure.
-
I certainly can't find any evidence that Marmol isn't stupid. In fact, as the magic 8-ball says, "all signs point to yes".
-
Walker is fine. He was doing well enough Marmol is just dumb and the cards have a logjam
-
We all know nothing. Everyone thought they knew about Walker, Lodolo, Sale, Tovar, Durran, Ruiz. The gods of baseball are always there to punish our hubris.

Don't know much about xERA but I am a Padres fan and I know he has a really good curve, good location and not much else. I would say he is exceeding expectations. However, it seemed to be the case that no one really knew what to expect so this could simply be him as a starter. Not sure if any of that goes into the xERA
-
I think it could be a couple things. One is obviously it’s early in the season, and 2023 numbers are still going to have a lot of variance. Another possibility is that Lugo has over performed his xERA as a reliever, and in the couple years where he’s logged a good bit of starts his ERA has been pretty equal to xERA. So that could be the difference. Guess we’ll see if he starts reverting to his xERA as a starter this year

Fascinating numbers: Seth Lugo is off to a good start, ERA of 2.78, FIP of 2.81, xFIP 3.35, xERA of . . . . .4.53??? I wonder what he is doing that makes that one indicator so pessimistic. Growing up in the 80s there was a phenomenon called "the Russian judge", because in olympic events the Russian judge was always ridiculously harsh to American atheletes. xERA is Lugo's Russian Judge.

I am in agreement with Glosta. Let's have a fun season.
-
I agree with point #1 — to ensure no collusion. Also agree that ultimately if there is anything fishy going on we should discuss it here.

(Cont from message below)...For me it is #1. I will only veto a trade if I feel there is cheating involved, even if I feel the trade is unfair. I want to encourage trading and the best way to do that is to let people trade.
-
I agree with Cologniacs BUT I think it needs to be a league decision on philosophy. Is the veto 1) simply to help ensure people are not in collusion 2) is it for us to determine fair trades or 3) is it to be used as part of our playing the game. For example, if the first place team is making a fair trade that will make him better do I veto it to give my team a competitive advantage. I think all three are reasonable as long as the league agrees.
-
I think vetoing isn’t a vote on whether it’s a fair trade. It’s just a feature to make sure people aren’t gaming the system and to make sure no one is taken advantage of.

I thought the Luis Roberts trade was lopsided towards Luis Roberts.
-
If you have vetoed a trade, maybe step up and say something so everyone can get some sort of understanding, and maybe someone will actually understand your thought process.
It is sort of a shitty move in this league IMO..
-
I feel like if you're going to veto a trade at least say something or explain why. Someone vetoed my trade with Cologniacs a few weeks backs and it's like why? what issue did they have? At least explain yourself if that's what you want to do.
-
I haven’t seen that anything has been over turned as of yet.
-
No trade has been stopped Yet right?
-
I agree. This is a $20 league. Seems extreme..
-
Hey guys, late to the party on this but I just noticed that people are vetoing trades. Every trade I looked at, there was at least two people who vetoed it. I don't get this. What is the thought behind vetoing a $1 Christian Arroyo for a $1 Jordan Hicks?
-
I can definitely see that. I am just happy that he has starting hitting after a slow start

Rowdy Tellez in a "Brew Crew" jersey looks like the MVP of a company softball team.

And…
If a player passes through waivers, 50% of his salary, rounding up, counts against his previous team's salary cap as a cap penalty, until he is claimed by another team, reauctioned by the cutting team (see rule g. below) or until the end of the current season. Any bids for him as a free agent must be at least 50% of his previous salary

My understanding is there is 30 day window after drop date. There is some good discussion on this in community thread.
From rules V. g.
The team that dropped the player may not nominate or bid on the player until 30 days after the drop date, unless the keeper deadline or the league's auction draft occurs in between the drop date and the player's new auction

If I picked up a player I have a cap penalty for, does the penalty go away?
-
Any pitcher you want injured, I'll do what I did to McKinsey, Iglesius, and Bubic.
-
At least it gives him an excuse for the last start.
-
The pitching injuries have been brutal this year
-
Starting to feel cursed.
-
Whoa! I trade for Bubic at 10:25AM, he is announced on th IL at 10:31???
-
No, a team can be less than the max allowed number.
-
Do we have to keep $1 free for the 41st, 42nd roster spot if unoccupied?

Agree

That Josh Rojas is having a solid start for a depth infielder. I bet someone could get him for a dollar.
