He’s not coming back. Talked to him a bit ago. I thought he had messaged the commish.
-
I've messaged him to see if he's coming back. But he's been unresponsive to my messages since November, and didn't complete arbitration or cuts.

20th sounds good
-
Do we have a replacement for Learning Curve?
-
It looks like earlier on the 19th doesn't work for some people - I'll set it for the 20th for now. If I'm recalling correctly, the draft last year took ~3 hours, so hopefully it's not too late a night for those on the east coast.

I’m Central time zone. Also confirming that 10am-6pm is available for me on the 19th. But if folks are cool with the 20th, let’s make it happen!
-
Thanks everyone. It looks like Mar 20 in the evening could work.
Mr. F - what time zone are you? If you're eastern time, it looks like we could get started at 9 eastern / 6 pacific (based on the rest of the whenisgood responses).

I can try to make the 18th happen. I will be at a convention for work March 14th-17th and taking a redeye home into the 18th but if that is the best date for everyone I can swing it - Just let me know - Never done a Slow Draft auction - but I could probably keep up with it enough to make that work too

My only concern with the slow draft as described here (and thanks everyone for helping to illustrate!) is the concurrent auction. With concurrent auctions, I'd imagine it is entirely possible (likely, even) that anyone's Plan A, Plan B and Plan C might all be up for auction at the same time. Obviously in a live auction, you would have to react if someone nominates your Plan B before you get a chance to nominate your Plan A, but the latter situation seems a lot more flexible than the former.
-
I can do the 19th or 20th. I dont know how long these drafts take so I ws playing it safe. On the 19th, I wont be available after 6:45pm so anything before that is fine. On the 20th I work 11-7pm, so can't do anything before 7pm. Otherwise I'm good. I would prefer a live draft as well. So the 19th I can be more flexible if that's the final/best option.
-
Slow draft is fine with me. Did some of these and they worked really well. With 3 nominations each we should get through with it in a couple of days. With the clock set at 8 hours you‘ll have to check three times a day for a couple of minutes.
-
Just seeing what the Commissioner posted, if a slow draft is the only way to do it, I relent. But I still think a live draft is more fun. Also, it allows all players to focus in the moment and then go on with our lives outside of Ottoneu.

For a slow auction, multiple players (generally 2-3 nominations per team) are up for auction at the same time (e.g. for 8-12 hours). The clock resets when a bid is made. Players end up being up for auction for a couple days at the beginning, but because 24-36 players are up at the same time, it goes quickly. I've done one before on Couch Managers, and it took a couple weeks - I'm happy to answer any questions anyone has. If we opt for this, it would likely have to start sometime in Feb.

I prefer not doing a slow draft... just my opinion. A live draft allows us to focus and then go on with our lives. I do like playing this league. But a week long draft seems like a pain.

Based on the updated poll results, the days with the fewest conflicts are: Mar 18, Mar 19, Mar 20.
The following teams indicated they are NOT available those days - please post here ASAP if you would be able to re-consider/make those days work:
- Mar 18: Rearden Steel, Queen City
- Mar 19: Mr. F, Queen City
- Mar 20: Mr. F, Queen City
Otherwise, I think it would be fairest to do a slow auction (unless anyone has strong objections to that).

I’m cool with slow draft as well if needed. I’m having a tough time picturing it also, but I’m down.
-
I'm flexible and will do whatever we need to make sure everyone can participate. I've never participated in such a large auction via slow draft, so maybe it works different than I'm imagining, but I struggle to see how a slow draft would work given we need it to be done auction style. If I counted the transactions correctly, last year's auction saw 142 players picked up. Not sure how that can get done with a reasonable clock on each bid.
-
I'm up for either a live draft (I put in my availability already) or a slow draft, whichever is easier for folks. I like that a slow draft can pick automatically if someone forgets to pick/is busy.

I’ll make sure to put my times in this weekend.
-
An alternative to a live draft is to have an off-site slow draft. I've done one before on Couch Managers (https://www.couchmanagers.com/). Players are up for auction for 8-12 hours and the draft takes place over weeks. Let me know if anyone has thoughts on that - I personally think its slightly less fun then a live draft (but probably preferable to having someone miss the draft altogether).

For what it's worth, the When is Good sheet stopped a week before opening day. I'm unavailable the weekend prior, but would be fine to do a weeknight that week if that works for others if we need to extend it out
-
Is there a way to see my votes? I voted right away but can't remember when. I am probably a minority but I prefer to draft as late in Spring Training as possible. I know many don't like to do it that late though.
-
Just a reminder to fill out the draft time poll if you haven’t already.
I would ask that everyone select all times that you could possibly make (not just the best/preferred times). Right now, with 8 responses, there are no times in the entire month+ period that work for more than 6 people. I will follow up about dates that have the fewest conflicts, but I’m hoping there’s a day that can work for everyone.
Another option (if there is no date that works for everyone) would be a slow dr

And I'd also like to start looking for a draft time. I've set up a "when is good" poll here: https://whenisgood.net/bqksiwk
Please select all dates that work for you - I'm hoping we can find a time that works for everyone. Thanks!

Reminder that the keeper deadline is Jan 31. Rosters need to be cut down and under the cap by that time. I believe Ottoneu fees are due at that time as well (if you haven't already paid for the 2023 season).

And in Durham's defense, the Jays reinstated Nate Pearson 2 days ago from the 60-day IL, so it's likely a passive illegality, not an active manipulation of the rules

Gotcha - so being at 43/44 players (and under $400) is fine since they have the 60/SUSP designation? Or am I that 12th team?
-
I think this would be covered under section I.B or I.C of the rules, but it is also best practice from what I've gathered on the community forums and ottoneu slack group. (Just to avoid people rostering 20+ extra people on the last day, not that that was an issue for this league)
Blue Jays on
October 7, 2022 11:13 AM

To clarify - rosters should be legal as of the end of the season (to avoid people ending a bunch of auctions right before the end of season deadline and going way over cap/roster limits) - not necessarily down to 40 players or $400 right now. So 11 of 12 teams are legal right now.

Great job Windy.
Relating to the offseason - from everything I can see in the rules, rosters don't need to be legal until after the drop deadline (and subsequent auction). Am I missing something?

Congrats Windy. You did a great job.

Thanks for a fun and challenging season! My goal was to take a 2-win team to the.playoffs. Thrilled to wind up on top. Many thanks to the previous owner for acquiring Verlander and Witt.

Good luck to all the teams in the playoffs. Too bad that my team choked in the second to last week. But Crazy Birds deserved to finish on top in the division anyway with a lead of 1.000 points overall. Can't wait for 2023.
