Thanks guys. Very helpful.

The mechanic is in place to allow leagues (the market in this case) have a way to, over time, reset overpriced or injured players to their actual market value. Most people do if just to free up a couple extra dollars or cap space here and there, but there are greater underlying economical mechanics at play because without it available resources (dollars) in the league would be wasted in unusable resources.

Aces has it on point. After 30 days you can reduce a player’s cap penalty by half via reauctioning them, winning them, and cutting them; this then restarts the 30 day clock allowing you to repeat the process until they get down to the minimum $1 or they reach a price that someone else (or you) may actually want to keep them at.

When you cut someone you get half back. After 30 days you can bid on them again if someone else wins you get other half back if you win you can cut again for another half back.

All right. I've seen this several times now, but I can't figure out the logic. A team wins an auction for a player and almost immediately cuts him. I'm thinkiing there's some sort of tactical advantage, but I can't figure it out. Anyone care to share?

I have Duran, Sanchez, waters and Greene all available for some high priced stars.

(2/2) You may not put a claim in or bid on a player if you have an illegal roster. The site will force you to make a cut before you can do so. The general rule of thumb is $1 available for every active roster slot (whether it's filled or not). Where it gets weird is SUSP/60IL players as they temporarily grant you an extra roster slot. My current roster is 41 of 43 because of that. However, when they come off the IL the extra slot is lost and a player needs to be cut to become legal again.

(1/2) Yes and no. No cuts need to be made to put a bid on a player via auction or waiver. If successful, you will need to cut a player to get your roster legal again, but remember that you only get half a cut player's salary back. So you really need to cut someone 2x (or more) the price of whoever is signed to have a legal roster again. Example: If you sign someone for $2, you would have to cut a $4 player to have a legal roster ($2 cap penalty + $2 free cap space = $4).

Hey guys. Just wanted to check in with some of those who are more familiar with the rules than I to be sure I don't make a mistake. As I spent my entire budget at the draft, the only way I could bid on a player at auction or pick up a waived player would be to immediately cut another player of equal or greater value if I should win the auction or get the waiver claim. Is that correct?

Good luck to everyone this season
-
PS: Cap penalties (and any loans acquired/given in trades) automatically clear at season’s end for the next year. Not that I think he’ll last that long; but everyone will end up cutting people throughout the year that no one will pick up.

Sorry about the confusion but another question. No one claims him for 41 (unless people start clearing cap space it ain’t happening). I get 20 back. Let’s say someone starts and actuion for 21 and gets him do I get the last 21 back to my budget?

Cutting a player puts him on waivers for 24 hours in which any team can attempt to claim him for his full salary. After that 24 hours he becomes a free agent whose minimum bid is half his original salary. NOTE: if he clears waivers, the cutting team incurs a cap penalty of half his salary and cannot attempt to resign that player (even if someone else starts an auction) for 30 days. If and when another team acquires the player that penalty is cleared.

"You can claim a player that was cut in the last 24 hours. If you win your claim (no team with lower standings makes a claim) you will have to pay the player's full salary. "
-
I should say, Aces Full sent me a message saying he meant to "waive" Jimenez, as opposed to a "cut." As I understand it, a player is cut and available on waivers for next 30 days (with a 50% cap hit of player contract value to team that dropped). I put Eloy JImenez back on Aces Full for he thought he had "pushed the wrong button," as it were. Just want to be transparent here. All's good.
-
NOTE: Aces Full meant to waive Eloy Jimenez, not cut him. A beginner's mistake. I have added Eloy Jimenez back to Aces Full at $41.

Yeah that sucks about Eloy! I would join a discord for the league.

I don’t hate the trade chat feature on this site but would people be interested in a discord channel for the league?

For those that haven't checked do have Nolan Arendao OTB
-
I'd love to take credit for spending a lot of time on it, but it turns out that all you have to do is put the league number into one box on the spreadsheet, and it spits everything else out.
-
Cool! Thanks for putting that together, I've been wanting to dig into the surplus calculator but it seems intimidating!
-
I created a sheet using the ottoneu surplus calculator, if anyone's interested in having a look at how you're doing. (Chico's doing the best so far!) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dburmljxeuXgqQ46q0nAiMJi4hYFuNizjG6EujsQ6M8/edit?usp=sharing

Make sure your filter is set to allow the search for minor leaguers. Next to level it should say "Majors" if you change that to ALL or MiLB, he should pop right up.

I'll ask this now and maybe I can be ready for next week. I believe we are supposed to be able to draft minor-leaguers for our bench, but I'm not sure how that works. For instance, there's a SP for Seattle at the AA level by the name of Logan Gilbert. If I try to search for Gilbert on the Auction page I get no results. Does that mean I can't draft him or is there some other process?
-
Yes

Just to confirm...starting an hour early next week? 7:00PM EDT?

Pitchers and SP/RP eligibility: https://community.ottoneu.com/t/pitchers-and-sp-rp-eligibility/1685/7
-
"Since RPs get spot starts and SPs can go to the pen from time to time, your team’s stats will accrue based on how the pitcher is used in real life on that day. You can put any pitcher in to a SP spot, but if they pitch in relief on that day, you will not get their stats. Correspondingly, you can put any pitcher in to a RP spot, but if they start that day you will not get their stats."
