Completed the survey, and remembered that I'm flying back from Houston on the evening of 2/28, and will be out of town from 3/6-3/12. But other than that, pretty open in the evenings.
-
Yeah, I just threw 3/1 out there as a placeholder as my last unofficial act as assistant vice-commissioner :-D
I'm pretty flexible, as long as the date doesn't confilct with any of my home leagues, but they usually don't start planning until after the Super Bowl, so whatever our consensus is should work.
It would also be nice to fill the abandoned teams before then.
-
Draft Date/Time Poll: Please be as flexible as you can... coordinating schedules for 12 strangers across 4 time zones is pretty difficult so most of us will inevitably have to move things around to make it work. The sooner you can take the survey, the faster we can lock in a date to make that process easier for everyone--- thanks! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QWJY6D3
-
Sounds good, I’m CT and also a dad so later is better for me too. I’ll make a poll
-
My only issue is the time that would be 5pm pst and I have young children, that would be dinner time. Am times or later pm times would be easier for me. Maybe a poll would be best

Yeah it was pre-set as that 3/1 date , which actually works ok for me—- but are there certain days of the week that people absolutely can’t do? I’d love to target 8p ET on 2/29, 3/1, 3/7 or 3/8 if one of those work for everyone. Thoughts ? I can make a poll if needed
-
Thanks Commish, great call. Even if we all do not make additional drops I think that’s the fairest outcome. Also I see the draft is Fri 3/1? Will we agree on a time soon?

That sounds good to me.

Thanks everyone for the civil input; really my only concern is setting a bad precedent, so here's what we'll do:
-I will re-open PF cuts for all, with a firm deadline of Sunday, 2/11, at ~8pm ET.
-Moving forward, I will send out courtesy reminders leading up to the deadlines. With reminders, the already-published schedule, and several weeks of flexibility already built in to get it done, we'll treat all system deadlines as hard cutoffs-- no extensions.
LMK if any concerns
-
That makes sense to me.

If we were playing for money, I wouldn't make an exception. But since we're not, I'm grudgingly OK with it. I agree with Foggy Bottom that rules should be rules. And also that if we open it to one team, then it should be open to all for a predetermined amount of time. How's that for a complicated answer?

This is definitely a biased opinion since I'm the one impacted right now, but I think I prefer to relax the rules in situations where it was an honest mistake and it doesn't hurt the gameplay. It's more fun when more teams are more competitive. I would be fine taking over the commish job but that seems a bit corrupt in this instance. Also I may be traveling and not available in the later half of the summer so probably doesn't make sense anyway.

I have no question about the intent and totally get that the extension is in and of itself pretty innocuous. We all agree this game is about fun; it gets less fun when we have to debate rather than just lettting the rules decide. If everyone else believes the deadlines are meant to be flexible and we should debate exceptions on a case by case basis on the message board, just let me know and I’ll un-volunteer the comish role, with no hard feelings. Guess I jinxed it when I said it would be easy
-
I have no problem giving a little extra time to drop players.
-
If it reopens for 1 should it not reopen the window for all? Just to keep it fair for everyone.

Yeah I totally agree that deadlines are super important for the game to run smoothly. And workarounds just mean another thing for commissioners to do which is not exactly fair for you. For this particular instance, being able to drop players is essential for participating in the auction (which is the highlight of the season) and getting two extra days doesn't really give any advantage. I apologize for the error and I'll definitely be more on top of deadlines in the future.

I think fantasy leagues work best when we stick to deadlines and rules the same for everyone, and only do exceptions and workarounds for system errors, true emergencies, or commissioner errors (e.g., miscommunicated a deadline). We’ve also had one-off misunderstandings like a brand new owner that didn’t understand the one-time round of PF cuts, which made sense to accommodate. I get it, I’ve forgotten before too, but the deadlines need to be true deadlines to keep things simple, fair and fun.
-
Hey y'all. Been a busy week and the keeper deadline totally slipped my mind. Would it be possible to allow me to drop some players? Hope that isn't too big of an issue.

Done!
-
Thanks Carlos—-Aviary or Tulsa if you can go ahead and give me commissioner rights now so that we can mark the 2 teams abandoned as soon as we can, that will hopefully help give us time to fill out the league before the draft
-
I'm ok with taking the commish spot to keep the league going, but if anyone else wants to, please do. I think the most complicated part will probably be finding a time for the draft so as long as everyone can help me out by being as flexible as you can with that, we should be in good shape. -Andrew
-
I was only co-commissioner to help Aviary with starting and stopping the draft. I enjoy playing, but don't really have time to do much other commissioner-y stuff. I can mark the 2 guys that are leaving as abandoned though.
-
The bell tolls for me as well. After 13 seasons, it is time for me to retire. I've enjoyed my time in the league & my brief stint as commissioner. If anyone wants to take over as co-commissioner or has an owner that wants to take over my team let me know.
-
Sorry to hear this, Providence. I'll let the commish know. Take care of yourself, man.
-
Unfortunately I won’t be able to continue playing fantasy next season, it’s been so fun playing with you all! It says I need to reach out to the commissioner to abandon. Could one of you do that for me?

Devastating… in July I’d have bet the family farm on finally winning one. But that was an amazing comeback. At least I have the Brewers in the playoffs to cling onto. Fun season, thanks everyone

Fun season that went down to the wire Metro. Crazy how close some of the categories were after 6 months of games. Now I’m ready for the real life mlb playoffs!

Yeah, for sure, I'll share a summary-- I didn't get anyone's permission to share results more broadly so I wouldn't be comfortable giving the raw data but I will synthesize and share with anyone that's interested. Feel free to DM me and I'll send you the output when I'm done (it's due Oct 9 so will be right around then)
-
Are you going to post the results of the survey, only if everyone is ok with it. Just be interesting to see some demographics and thoughts about our league mates

I submitted a survey as well.

Just submitted the survey. Well done. Made me think about why Ottoneu rocks!

Hey yall, as I wind down this historic meltdown of a season, I’m shifting my focus to a grad school project on Usability. I chose Ottoneu as my case study. If you are able, I’d appreciate a few minutes of your time to fill out the survey. One of the questions asks about outside resources; if you don’t want to answer that question for fear of giving away secret recipes for success, you can just indicate that in the free form field. Thx in advance!

There was a week in July where I had 90 points. This is a truly epic meltdown unfolding before your eyes , and I gotta tell you I am not feeling great about my odds. On the bright side I did replace Ohtani with Wade Miley, so….

Sorry for the temporary hijack, but I have an opening in the home league I run. It's 6x6 roto auction redraft, $200 entry fee. If interested, let me know in a DM. Back to the regularly scheduled programming...
-
Sorry, I was on vacation. But the selected draft date is fine with me.
-
FYI, March 19th has filled up on the site and no more drafts will be permitted that day. I have removed it from the poll. Currently March 12, this Sunday is the winning day. There are 4 teams outstanding. Please vote by the end of tomorrow so we can secure whatever date/ time is decided.

yeah, as someone who's west coast, when I looked at it, it was giving me options in my local time

It should convert to your time zone but just in case, all days should have options from 11AM - 9PM Eastern time.

I think the site converts it to your local time.
-
Just so we're on the same page this is in eastern time, right?
-
Alright there's lots of options over the next few weekends so hopefully we can make one of them work. Please try to get your options filled in by next Wednesday.
