If we don’t get a unanimous vote we won’t do it. I know other leagues do and I don’t have a strong opinion in either direction, it just changes strategy. I wouldn’t be a proponent of anything closer than say a week from the draft in order to give everyone adequate time to prepare, but in any case we can revisit toward the trade deadline if anyone wants to bring it to a league vote.
-
I think we take for granted what that would do to player salaries (not to be confused with value) because a handful of injuries pre-draft.
It would likely set a bad precedent, I’ll never vote yes. I’d love if this just went away.
-
The long term ramifications of doing that I think are largely ignored. Imagine a scenario where a $60 player is injured for the season two days before auction…and then is cut right before the draft. You’d be allowing an owner an additional $60 at auction, for 1 roster spot.
Hell, I just lost a $23 Rhys Hoskins, even that would be a chunk. So, if I thought say Player X was a $50 spend, now I’ll just push him up to $70, or whatever.
-
It didn’t create much traction with the masses so we move on. Look forward to the draft on the 26th. Always a fun time
-
No problem. I just thought I would bring it up as an option
-
Yeah we’re not changing it for this season. I’m open to allowing a pre-draft round of penalty free cuts for everyone next season if we all agree to it ahead of the initial cut deadline. But it’s too late in the process now and might have influenced initial cut decisions if people knew a second round would exist.
-
I'm in the same spot as I was before. ST injuries are just a part of this game, and I don't want to relax functional Ottoneu roster rules because of injuries. It sucks, I get it...but this is just how this works. I'd prefer to keep the league inside the confines of Ottoneu rules.
-
As we can see injuries have turned their ugly head on our rosters during the WBC and spring training. I’ll ask the question again will we be able to at least put them in the DL and be able to draft more players before our draft on the 26th. Just trying to get a sense how everybody feels about it. Either way is cool for me but just wanted to throw out options to see if we have a consensus.
-
Yeah, tough one and the WBC claims another star. Shame too. I've liked the tourney, but I have a feeling this rash of injuries right before the start of the season is going to make some teams weary next year.
-
At the last second, the WBC kicks me right in the Altuve.
-
C’mon man, it’s last season. As I noted at the time, you didn’t have a clear claim even if it was let through as Worst to First had a higher waiver priority. The commish consulted with the creator of Ottoneu and made the decision according to the brand standard. Nobody benefitted from the attempted sabotage and nobody was worse off. It ensured the ongoing competitive balance of the league rather than allowing anyone to benefit from the old owner throwing a tantrum. Let’s move on.
-
I didn’t ask for the rules to be bent only enforced which it seems like you didn’t like that out come. I ask you to follow the rules and you say no to that which is which is unfair to me. It’s not even a big deal to me and I can let it go. I just don’t appreciate that you think I have no grievance in the situation and I should take the league governess at value. We are all our own entities in this league and it should be fair to all
-
Na, you weren’t any kind of victim. Move on. It’s been months now, hopefully no situation like that one arises again. If you’re unhappy with the way we conduct the league, no one will make you stay. But please stop complaining when we won’t bend rules to fit your situation, or compensate you for not getting to benefit from someone being anti-competitive. No one else benefitted either, we made sure of that. No one else is getting extra cuts. No one is out to get you. Chill and let’s all have fun.
-
I scratch and claw to win but I’m also a good owner but why do I have to make the sacrifice. What, am I designated push over by the rest of the league? That might be a bit harsh and we are only talking about one player but the attacks buy some are unwarranted.
-
I would have been fine with a form of symbolic compensation but what I was given were attacks and your screwed. I feel this is a very competitive league so it’s hard. No other owner experienced this hardship and it’s really not that a big deal to me but it stands.
-
I’m response to Murphy I am totally on board. That guy who was the owner was weird and was not doing his duties to compete. I was glad he was taken out but what you fail to address is the human element of fantasy leagues. An owner going rogue made things interesting to say the least but it did happen. I have no problem with what the league officials did in there diligence to keep the league in good standing. My problem is I got hosed without any form of compensation.
-
I think this is like the third year they've done it??
-
Thanks. Who knew?
-
It's the Ottoneu Prestige League. Any/all Otto teams can join (link is at the top of your page)...it's cool, wildly competitive. The league operates on "snapshots" in time, strategy is quite a bit different. It's pretty hands on, if you want to be competitive.
-
What is the OPL?
-
Good luck in the OPL Murphy's Law!
-
Yes, sometimes that means we maintain the rules as written and other times not. Sometimes it "helps" a particular player to interfere, and sometimes it "hurts" them. But neither of those things have anything to do with the reasoning. Now please keep things civil and move on. Let's give each other the benefit of the doubt that we're all doing the best we can with the curveballs the season throws at us.
-
These things are what the power is for. It is not for reversing all mistakes or all random occurrences, good or bad. It is for maintaining competitive balance, which clearly requires that we have the information of when the season starts (thus the first decision) and that we are all playing to win (thus the second decision). Competitive balance doesn't require that we be able to dispense with newly injured players exactly as we see fit.
-
The commissioners of a league have the power they have for a reason. The two times we stepped in last season were: 1) The lockout, which threw off the deadlines. All we did there was let everyone make penalty free cuts for longer, which just kept the deadlines in line with the actual start of the season. 2) A player self-destructing his team on the way out. What we did was reverse everything he did after the point of making it clear he wasn't trying to compete.
-
BC still thinks I was in on it with the rogue owner. After I was a two champ and second being in talking chop 2. People just make up their own narratives. Look, I just brought up the situation and wanted thought. All I got was attacks and people making shit up. I’m a good owner and try to compete to the best of my ability for the good of the league. I pay on time and try hard and would at least like to bring up a subject without being attacked. That only gets me charged up and pissed.
-
One more thing. Please stop with this bull shit I’m gonna quite syndrome. Either play or get out. You can be replaced.
-
You know BC I have nothing to say to yo. I have acted on league rules that you think aren’t afforded to me. Please read the rules of the league.
-
Chipper disregard my disparaging marks to you . I didn’t put the words in properly
-
Chipper, how can I be asking for an exemption just for myself. I am asking some clarification for everyone. We can can keep it the way it is but I just was throwing it out there. I think at least we can move them to the DL for draft night, I supposed. Make no mistake but by league rules I handled my waiver claims correctly and we’re not awarded by league rules. So don’t sit there and act all bad ass like your the second coming
-
In fairness, I don't think it's being entertained. I'm done talking about it.
-
Dude give it a rest. I still believe you were in on it with that owner that we booted last year. It isn't "within the rules" when we have an owner go rogue. I have already paid, but if we are going to continue to entertain this kind of thing, then you guys can have this league without me

Well if Bartolo is all for breaking league Ottoneu rules. All discussions are a open.
-
Colleen's Husband definitely wanted the rules to be followed 'to the letter' last year, disregarding the spirit of the rules. Now he's asking for an exception, arguing that this is in the spirit of fair play. He's right that this is nearly exactly the opposite of what went down last year. That said, there are players that some owners may have kept at the penalty free cut deadline if they had known they could DL them before the draft. This proposed change would be unfair to them.
-
Who wouldn't? The 10 other managers in this league that knew what was going on was BS. That is over and done with thought and has nothing to do with this.

Of course I tried to benefit from the situation. Who the hell wouldn’t? I did so under the rules of the league and was denied, which’ is outside the Ottoneu league rules and I took it. The fact I get no respect for sticking up my right as owner is perplexing to me.
-
You tried to take advantage of the situation last year. There are 12 teams in this league and 11 of them accept the rules for what they are and understand why they are. I nearly quit this league last year because of the circus it became. I vote no to any rule changes or special treatment for early IL assignments.

Which is always problematic when people circumvent the rules in place. I wasn't a part of last seasons debacle, but, this probably wouldn't help that.
-
No, you are incorrect about last year. I wanted the free agent rule enforced for which the other owners disagreed. I wanted Ottoneu rules to be applied. Name one thing where I was wrong in having a waiver wire transacted that was legally done. That is a perfect instance of where our managers of the league circumvented the rules of the league. I don’t know where some of you get off.
-
I know clearly you didn't like my response, but it's just not how Ottoneu is structured. Every one of us would be in the exact same spot. We'd also have to wait to cut post-draft...it's just the way it goes. I'm sorry, I get that it sucks, but it's kinda just how it goes.
-
Okay, JD and Braves spelled it out cool. Next question- can I move that player to the DL before the draft so I can fill the roster spot?
-
Or even worse, want us to change how Ottoneu works at its core, which we can't do.
-
Sigh...are we really doing this again? I'm turning off my email notifications if we are going through the "change Ottoneu rules for one team's benefit" thing again. I have no issue with you asking the question. I have no issue with you being competitive and wanting what's best for your team. I DO have an issue with you not accepting the response when the rest of the league disagrees.
-
You can pretend that I don't remember last year either. You want the rule change because it will benefit you. It might benefit someone else and it might not. It isn't our rule, it is an Ottoneu rule, which has already been pointed out to you.

I’m not looking to have things bent in my favor but issues come up that don’t fit in the guidelines in ottoneu. I really don’t appreciate the accusation. I have done nothing to always want it n my favor but more of the clarification of the rules of the league. I proposed something that would help both myself and other owners. You can be a dick if you want to
-
This is my 11th year in Ottoneu and it has happened to me several times. It sucks. The format exists like this to try and closely mimic how a real team might operate. Real teams have stars get hurt. It's not good for anyone, but it's not impossible to rebound from it either!
-
How is it shortsighted and why do you always want the rules bent in your favor?

I’m cool with leaving it the way it is because it’s stays the same with everyone. Im amazed how short sighted some are though because it could be a big star on your roster that breaks his leg in spring training. What if you have 40+ dollars invested in a player and they go down in spring training for the year. I guess there screwed. I get it. At least let us move the player to DL before the draft but I don’t know.
-
Spring Training is every year and all teams are dealing with WBC. Per the Ottoneu Rules page: Before the end of arbitration, players may not be cut. Between the end of arbitration and the keeper deadline, players may be cut or traded. After the keeper deadline and before the auction draft, teams may not cut or trade any players.
-
I should have clarified, I meant "fantasy season", not "baseball season", which to your point does include WBC, Spring Training etc. Our fantasy season in Otto begins on 1/31 every year effectively.
-
Agreed. The only time I've seen penalty free cuts post deadline is if there is an ownership change to allow the new owner to arrange their team for the draft. A torn ACL now is no different than an injury in-season, you just have the ability to draft a higher level replacement than would likely be available in season.
