So is this gonna be like Yahoo or similar where there's a draft room or something to click? I'm gonna be multitasking as usual while doing this so want to not miss something obvious.
-
I'll do an extra 30 as well
-
No extra for me this year either, I want to get a feel for the format first.
-
I'm not going to buy in this year, but competitive spirit won't be an issue. I like to win.
-
I'm good with whatever
-
Likewise in for $30, its my experience that leagues that go south are the ones where people have no vested interest. I'll be happy to hold Venmos if nobody else volunteers.

I'm in for another $30 as well
-
I'm in for an extra $30. Wanted to chime in before the draft was started/done
-
Count me in for another $30 to keep things interesting.
-
Another $30 sounds good to me
-
That may work. I think I'd be willing to do something like another $30, basically so that my all in total is $50
-
In theory, we could have everyone who wants to play for money pay in, and only those who paid in can win the cash. Thus, if the winner didn't pay in, it goes to the highest placing person who did pay in.
-
I think it might be tough to organize buy ins beyond what we've already paid, considering it would have to be done in the next few hours.
-
if my buy-in won't transfer, I can make your friend's buy-in. It's the least I can do. My apologies to the group.
-
My friend can take over that team. So tell me how you want to do it, commish.
No chance he's going to be able to pay in, though. To put it in proper Gen Z slang, we is poor college students, and we has no money.
I personally could buy in for $25, but he won't be able to last minute.
-
Hit 'send' too soon-- apologies if your settings still have each post emailing you... where are we on putting some skin in the game? I'm still game for $50 a head.

I'm going to be learning on the fly as well, hoping my three-screen setup gives me an unfair advantage!

I'm still game for the draft this afternoon. But I'm going in blind! We're packing up the house to move out so been too busy to research. So I'm going to wing it and learn on the fly. Seems simple enough; we have $400 to spend and looks like the cream of the crop end up getting $30-$40 or so. Key is going to be filling out the roster with smart cheap plays.
-
I am waiting for final confirmation, but I think I have a friend that will be able to take the spot for tonight at least. Perhaps for the rest of the season.
He's got to see if he's can get the hours required, so I'll update in a bit.
-
I would strongly prefer we don't move the day, but if we do I'd be more inclined to set out to do it over a couple of weeknights. The nature of my employment is such that I work a lot of weekends, and had to carve out this time well in advance.

I'm fine either moving the day or not, as there will be a baby on me either way and she will not help me draft.
-
I do not have anyone lined up. If anyone knows of a replacement, let's try and get something worked out soon so we don't have to postpone the draft. It's easier to have someone draft and then have another person take over the team afterward than it is to fill a completely empty team.
-
I'm ok with moving draft day if that helps. I sent the commish an email in case they missed the board post also.
-
Disappointing to hear. I privately asked a couple of buddies if they would be interested, but didn't know if Forearm had someone lined up. Anyone else find themselves cramming on nuances this morning? Ha.

Hey guys. I'm really struggling to find the time to get away for this draft tomorrow. I started coaching my kid's baseball team and I'm on a team too and I just can't find the time. Is there anyone you know that would like to take over my spot? I'm happy to deal with the entry fee. I just feel at this point I would be a detriment to the league due to my lack of free time.
-
And you should probably focus most of this effort on the lower level guys and/or prospects. Trust me, all of the big guys will get nominated by someone eventually. Try to hone in on the guys you know you specifically want to target that might otherwise slip through the cracks of the nomination process.
-
You can also add guys to your watchlist in the draft room, and you can set up a list of nominations in there as well, so you can kind of do it on the fly. If there's bidding happening on a player and you're not interested in them or otherwise sitting out that bidding process, you should definitely be singling out your next few nominations. Try to have 3-4 options at a time in case the folks in front of you nominate the same players.
-
The biggest things to make it run more quickly is to have guys queued for nomination. If we only have to wait 3-5 seconds for bidding to start instead of 20-30, that really adds up. You can add guys to your watchlist beforehand that you know you want to target, and from there it's super easy to nominate them. Since it's auction style, you don't really have to pay attention to whether Mike Trout or Charlie Culberson gets nominated first.
-
Honestly, probably a solid 4 hours, if not more. If we need to do it in two sittings, we can work that out. There's a group chat feature in the draft thingy, so if a few of us need to run or have had enough, we can set up a second time that shouldn't take quite as long. But yeah, it's a whole ordeal for new leagues.
-
How long do you anticipate the draft to take? 1 hour? 2? 4?
-
It's fine, I told myself I was going to do a bunch of research and knock it out of the park but instead I've done nothing at all. I have a little Ottoneu experience to go off of, but I've found that plans seem to derail pretty quickly in drafts, regardless of how good you figure your plan to be going in.
-
Still good with me, but I've been crazy busy trying to close on our house so I've done absolutely zero research so far. That means I'm either going to have an insanely pathetic draft or an amazing one. We'll see.
-
24th Still Good for me
-
All good with me as well
-
Fine by me as well. Got it set on my calendar.
-
4PM ET on 2/24 is still fine with me.
-
As a more general question - everything still looking good for the 24th?
-
Congrats on the house! I grew up right in that area, but haven't lived there for quite a few years, so any advice I have probably would be worth much :)
-
Congrats on the new house! I live in the Decatur area, so I'm not too familiar with that part of town. But I do have a bunch of friends that live/d around there that I could query if you're in need of referrals for certain things in that area. I do know of a few good golf courses out there though!
-
Hello everyone! Just thought I'd post some news... I just bought a house! Moving down from Kentucky (moving into the area between Lilburn and Lawrenceville). We're in the closing process scheduled to close on 2/28; it's going to be a busy month for me, but I should still be able to make the draft okay. Feel free to reach out to me if any of you live in that area (b/w Lilburn-Lawrencevill-Snellville) and you have any helpful advice for that area. My email is JehremySwinson@gmail.com
-
That day and time works for me. I've been following everything as well. Much like the free agent market, just patiently waiting for opening day to get here. :)
-
Guys - my apologies. I set up this league with a burner email account and not my normal one but I forgot. I haven't had my burner account on my laptop recently so I missed the messages over the last few weeks. I should be able to do 4 PM ET on 2/24.
-
I’m still planning to play, I’ve responded to at least a couple surveys. Proposed draft day/time should be fine. I’m west coast, so it’s harder for me to accommodate EST during the work week so I prefer to stick to weekends.
-
Yeah I think it's probably fine. Some folks probably just pay more attention to this than they do email.
-
I think I missed one of the surveys, but I completed the other; I've been following along, as well.
-
I haven't been active on the message board over here, and Talking Chop at all. However, I am following along, and that Sunday at 4:00 is a fine time for me.
-
I should have no problem with a Sunday at 4 PM Eastern. I am, however, starting to wonder if everyone's still ready to participate in this league. If people didn't answer either survey question over multiple months it calls into question whether they are really on board.

Also, one last thing to figure out before the draft is whether or not we want to play for money, since the $20 league does not include a payout to any winner/s. I'll send out another Google Form soon on the topic, and we'll go from there.
-
I have tentatively set the draft date and time to 2/24 starting at 4 PM EST, just to at least give us something to mold around over the next month or so. I'd say let's shoot for this, but if people have things come up, please let us know so we can try and figure something out. By setting it for this now, we can hopefully know how to respond when people ask us what we're doing on February 24th.
-
I'm thinking like maybe a 4 PM start would give us the best of both worlds.
