I'm good pushing back to 7 or 7:30 ET. I could go even later. I'm like $5 until I bottom out into forced $1 acquisitions so I'm really only in it for cheap prospect plays.
-
Press Conference: The team we have, with the type of guys on the team right now, we like what we have. With Markakis added to the team, we really have that financial flexibility you look for. We feel like we can shop in any aisle, but we don't know if we see the value in free agency right now. When you can make a big mid-season acquisition, you know, it has that psychological effect. So we feel good about going into the season with that capability.

I'm also good with slightly shifting the start time to help latecomers. 7 or 7:30 EST.

I would wager there will be more than 3-4 significant players left at 8. So if Ivan can show up then, I bet he'll be able to spend his $50ish.

I basically can't do weekdays without advance notice of like a week or more. I might be free from like 8-10 pm ET but even so there's no guarantee of that because of my job.
-
What time are you able to make it tonight, if at all?
-
There's basically no way that I can make 6:30 ET tonight but if that's what happens, so be it
-
Boom! Does that make 6:30 EST unanimous? Haven't seen Ivan chime in today.

Oh man, that works out quite nicely then. So let's call it 6:30 start.
-
Tonight actually works perfect for me. A snow storm is forcing me to work from home so I’m available.
-
That kind of happens anyways. Prospects tend to be a bit overvalued dollar-wise, especially if they're not going to be making an impact in the year that you have them rostered. They can definitely pay off big, but most of them aren't worth owning for more than a dollar or two. I found that out the hard way.
-
To be as objective as possible, with my team's goal being to hoard youth and potential, it would be very unfair if I was to get some of the top prospects in baseball for almost nothing because almost no one is on. Obviously, I'd be fine going the long haul with just the few that stay on with money, but it is important to point out the advantage.
-
Yeah, I'm not saying I'm opposed to it. There are always bound to be good and bad deals with leagues and rosters this size. Especially for new leagues. I suppose we'll wait to hear from WOBA for sure, but let's tentatively plan on starting back up around 6:30 tonight and going until whenever.
-
Just gonna let you run out of roster spots then.

If somebody has the money to get multiple players for several dollars each by 8:30, considering the players who will be left, I think they deserve a good deal or two. Of course, that may or may not be me, so I'm not unbiased.

I solemnly swear to drive up the price for every player after 8:30 PM.
-
Yeah, I'm fine with just leaving the draft active until everyone has had their chance. I may not be there in front of my computer by the end, but honestly that will probably mean the night owls are getting some seriously good deals.
-
I don't know, but I did just realize...it can go like 6:30-10:30 as long as the commish will be kind enough to send it down at the proper time. That way hopefully nobody misses the whole thing. Might minimize the damage to anyone who can't do the whole thing and also will make sure we don't have a third date.

Due to only having 9 dollars extra to spend on the draft before going under the 1 dollar per roster spot minimum, there won’t be a point to me participating. I’ll just fill out my team in free agency after the draft finishes
-
Yeah I believe it was WOBA/Loganutk. I'd say let's see if we can make tonight happen, otherwise maybe just come up with 10 random times over the next two weeks and see if anything nears a consensus.

If that's the case, I'd probably prefer tonight over Friday night. Which one was the west coast person? Was it WOBA?
-
I'd rather not delay it both because of when the season starts and because it gives people a chance to forget. If everyone so far can do tonight and Friday night (which seems to be the case), let's pick one of those and make it simple. If the guy on the west coast can't do any weeknight, I guess that sucks, but some of us can't do weekends.

It also doesn't have to be this week. It may help to give folks a little more time so that we can make sure the slot is set aside.
-
Tonight works for me if we can get it arranged that fast (doubtful). Tomorrow does not work. Wed, Thurs and Fri do work. Saturday I'm out. Sunday night works. It may be best to start another Google Doc.
-
I can do tonight.
As I recall, we have someone from the west coast, and I believe that it's one of the people with more money left. That could be an issue.
Just going off of faulty memory on that, though.

Tonight 6:30-8:30 sounds great to me provided we get acknowledgement from everyone.

I can do tonight between 6:30 EST-8:30pm EST. But that's the last time slot available for me until Friday night.

Tonight and Wednesday seem workable based on the replies thus far, my weekends are pretty tricky though.

Assuming that because of most of yall's work schedules that afternoons are off the table, the only evenings I can't do are Tuesday and Thursday.
-
This week isn't a good week for me to continue the draft. I have an 8 hour drive Wednesday and closing on our house Thursday. I could find some time Friday night through Sunday night, though.
-
I'm good all but Tuesday. If we tried another Sunday afternoon, I can make either of the next two work with some notice.

Exactly. And with setting lineups daily, you will really come to appreciate as much offense on your bench as you can possibly get. You will be able to use them.
-
Yeah, there are only 15 DHs in baseball, and 12 of us. Since some of those DHs are bad, it stands to reason that many of us are not going to use a DH as a UTIL. So you can put a 1B there.
Murphy’s Slow on
February 25, 2019 9:36 AM

Well fortunately those guys have 1B eligibility, and you'll be able to make good use of them either way. I guess the UTIL slot is typically the hulking corner-type guy or DH.
-
I made the mistake of thinking it was a two-catcher league (hence Posey+Realmuto), so welp. Also, why is there an MI slot but not a CI slot? It feels so weird to me for the roster to say "you need five outfielders and a utility infielder but no hulking 1B/3B guy"
-
Eh, it's rare for teams to have 5 quality OFs. I had to play guys like Jason Heyward and Jay Bruce last season in my other league. There's definitely a premium on OF, SP, and MI, since teams need the most of those quantity-wise.
-
And this is when I realize that I royally screwed up not drafting enough quality outfielders.
-
You have 810 total OF games, which is 162 games for 5 OF slots. So one full season per OF slot. All the others (except catcher) are basically just 162 games. Your lineup page will keep count for you and let you know how many games you're projected to have at each position.
-
From the rules page: "b. There is a 162 game maximum for all positional player positions, except for a 810 game maximum for OF. There is a 1500 inning maximum limit for pitchers, except in head-to-head leagues, which have no inning cap."
-
So what about the other positions? Do we have 162 slots for all 5 OF? Or 162 slots for C/1B/2B/SS/3B/UTIL/OFx3?
41/73 Club on
February 25, 2019 8:24 AM

Yes, there is a 162 game cap on the C position TOTAL. DO NOT play two catchers everyday. I made that mistake my first year and then couldn't play a catcher for like the last two months of the season. They just put two slots there to help you plan, and to give you the option of playing two catchers if you are lagging behind in games played. Catchers are weird and only play like 3-4 times a week so it's just helpful to have a couple spots.
-
I imagine that the catcher position is done this way to allow someone to catch up if they've got two catchers whose off days line up.
-
Actually, the more I read the rules it does sound like there's a hard 162-game cap at the catcher position. So even though there are two slots; it seems the intent is for owners to be able to platoon out there catchers. From the rules page: "x. The lineups page and roster organizer for non-head-to-head leagues allows for 2 catchers for platooning purposes; Ottoneu is not a 2-catcher game."
-
I didn't realize that there was a cap at all. I did notice the two catcher slots. How often do teams actually employ two catchers on their teams? I'm not sure how beneficial running a small-value catcher out there when you could have saved that roster spot for someone with more upside. If it truly is only 162 games total for both C spots then that just lessens the value of them further. I would assume that they each have their own 162-game limit. Doesn't make much sense otherwise.
-
Here's a question that I'm not 100% sure I get the answer to. There are caps on games per position. 162 per position, 810 for OFs. There are two catcher spots on the roster. Is that 162 for each spot, or 162 for catchers total? Similarly, are MI and UTIL positions with their own 162-game limits (I think the answer to this is yes). So maybe my question is only about the two catcher slots. If so, that's very odd, why is catcher the only position with multiple slots but a not-per-slot limit?
-
I'm not in for extra money yet. Maybe next year. Just like our front office. :)

If you are on a browser, there should be a selection that says auction draft on one of the toolbars for the site. A few of us are already in the draft room.
