Congrats, Dave! You put together an impressive team. Even more impressive, considering the team you inherited when you joined last year. Looking forward to a rematch next year!
-
Thanks all! This is all of my fantasy play at this point in any sport. Really enjoy this league! Props to Red Nex for a hell of a season as well.

“I. e. iii. + iv.
In regular season H2H games longer than one week (for example, the first matchup of the season and around the All-Star Break), the GS cap will be the same as it is for regular one week matchups
In two-week playoff games, the GS cap will reset at the end of the first week and before the second week begins on the second Monday in the matchup”

Pretty sure it’s 9/week. I think I saw a link on the forums, but am on my phone right now so can’t revisit it at the moment.

Hey all - does anyone know the SP starts rules for 2 weeks matchups? Is it 9/week, 18 total, 9 total?
Thanks!
Dave
-
congrats and good luck to all who made the playoffs this season!
-
Hey all - Looking for some final pieces. Could use a top SP, OF, and/or 3B and willing to discuss some combo of the following:
Eloy Jimenez
Kyle Schwarber
Jeremy Pena
MJ Melendez
JT Realmuto
(maybe Matt Chapman)
Bryan Woo
Emmet Sheehan
Bryce Miller
Emerson Hancock
Dustin May
-
Buggy Whip....you are over scheduled. Need to drop a player to keep scoring. Thanks.
-
Last call for me in trading or "rentels" . I have 9 players on my trade block.
-
Still looking to possibly move some minor league pieces. If anyone has interest, feel free to message me with a private message. Open to moving some excess SP as well.

I second that thanks, BRGB.

Yikes, I’ve missed seeing a part of the rule. I’m going to have to rethink my view.
-
Some thoughts. I agree with Buggy in that it is clear that the rule states 5 SP and 5 RP. So, clear that no one in the 6 years of playing Ottoneu and being in up to 7 teams a year has ever challenged that rule before now. I was hopping that Ginsburg would conform to the rules this year but that doesn't seem that will happen. So, we can have this discussion in the off season.
-
I said yesterday that it was a post season decision. I think the OPL has had an adverse affect on the rule. Slack was all over the place on this including Niv.
-
Here's a quote from Niv on Slack..."i do not think there is any problem for the record of saying "hey you need to roster 5 actual relievers" and i think the rules support that". It is obviously a controversial rule. The take away I had from Slack discussions and Chad Young's recent FG article is that each league should take the time to discuss it and decide how to enforce it. I think this would be best handled in the off season. I would not be in support of a change in mid-se

I maintain my interpretation of the rule is correct, please show me where I’m wrong.
-
Bad News...I hadn't thought about being able to slot SP into a RP slot. I'll reconsider my original position. I do think it's stretching that rule as far as it can go. SP being used as followers is much rarer than RP being used as openers. But you are correct that a SP can be slotted into a RP slot. I just read through the recent Slack discussion on this and even Niv says the rules support the 5 RP on the roster position. Perhaps it can revisited by the league during the off-season.

Buggy Whip - I disagree. The system allows us to put a SP in the RP slot. We cannot put a 1B only in the 2B slot. The rules for pitching are that the pitcher can only accrue points if they are in the appropriate slot, so if a SP gets moved to a 'Follower' role, they need to be in RP. If a RP is an 'Opener' they need to be in the SP slot using 1 of your 9 starts.
This creates a lot of unintended consequences. Last week Nick Pivetta put up over 60 points as a follower, going 5
-
I disagree with your interpretation of the rule. The rules specifically state that a team should enough pitchers to fill the 5 RP slots. It doesn't say a roster consists of 10 pitchers. It says 5 RP slots plus SP slots per the league's GS setting.

I like this league and plan on sticking around, unless unless rule changes are made. Custom rules eliminate entire leagues from being able to participate in OPL. They also cause a lot of confusion and are the sort of thing that leads to turnover and instability. @HighPriest, it seems like when you dug little deeper you realized you were wrong, I wasn't actually breaking rules, I was playing in a manner very consistent with what was being discussed in the Otto-verse.

Sorry, I'm just seeing this, I am working/living off-grid (no internet/cell reception) right now and it has really killed my fantasy communication and baseball watching ;(. I havent watched a game in a couple months...That said, im not breaking any rules. The practical interpretation of the roster rules is that a team needs to have 10 pitchers at all times. I haven't dropped below that. I meant to add a RP corps after I was eliminated from the OPL, I've been hurting myself.

I think the rules are specific. They are just being avoided. Where is Ruth Bader in all these discussions?
-
Post season discussion
-
This should be wake up call...to make the rules specific next start year.
-
The rule is clear to me…just disappointed in how people play the game. The comments on Slack, especially Niv, about enforcement and the perception of the rule also disappointed me.
-
No, I don't agree with that.
-
You do know that ‘Slippery Slope’ arguments are logical fallacies right?
-
"I also agree that having engaged owners is paramount and a rebuild with no RP is better than someone who isn’t regularly setting rosters. " What other rules should we ignore or interpret differently?
-
What Bop didn't quote was Rule i(a) which states "Each team shall during the regular season maintain a roster of 22 major-league players that can fill out a starting lineup as defined below". This clearly indicates that all teams should have a complete lineup capable of filling those slots. A rule is a rule and I would side on saying this is a violation. Perhaps it's too late this season to do anything about it but it could be clarified for next year.

Bop quoted from Rule I(e)(ii) which states "In head-to-head leagues...a starting lineup consists of one slot at each infield position (catcher, first base, second base, third base, and shortstop), five outfielder slots, one additional middle infielder (second base or shortstop) slot, one additional hitter from any position (utility slot) and five relief".

I guess there are rules, inning caps, games played and then some rules are suggestions. Moving on….
-
And we have 4 teams tied at 10-5 with a handful of teams within striking distance for the playoffs! 🔥🔥
-
I also agree that having engaged owners is paramount and a rebuild with no RP is better than someone who isn’t regularly setting rosters.
-
Personally, I don’t have an issue with a team having no RP. I don’t want to see an owner have to cut players to pick up a scrub RP. Minor league demotions or injuries would wreck a team financially in cut penalties.
-
It's more about he is not filling the RP's spots and adding extra hitters or SP's where if he had been following he would not have been able to to.
-
no response from owner
-
The only part of roster construction that allows a person to bid more is to have more money remaining for those bids. Period. This owner could have easily put up several auctions for RPs and fill those slots for $1 each. We are not going to see eye-to-eye here, Aaron, and that's fine, both opinions are valid.
Just remember that we had to fill 4-5 owner slots this offseason and we have an active ownership group here, which is infinitely better than the alternative.
