I think Commish has to click on the "done draft" Ottoneu thinks we are still drafting. So no trade/rosters changes.

Same here, Say-Hey.

Alright, I imported everyone's rosters. There were 4 minor league guys that gave "bad data errors," so I added those manually. Let me know if there are any errors!

Stopping the timer every night is prolonging this draft. A slow draft is already too drawn out. Can we please allow the timer to run 24/7 going forward?

Draft is live! Every draft lasts a minimum 24 hours (hopefully dispersing the effect of the disruption) but I am sorry about the delayed start..
-
I have 30 minutes and then I will be unable to participate for 8 hours. It’s disappointing because I planned my life around today’s 10am Pacific start time. It seems as though one team has no problem inconveniencing the rest of the league; TWICE!

I’m at a one year old’s bday party, but I logged in on Seatown’s behalf. I sent him the login info. Duda will upload his keepers and start the draft (because I can’t get to a PC!)

So, what’s the latest news on the draft?

Last call for Seatown to join! What I'll do is, if he's not here by 4 ET, I'll join for him so I can upload his team. That way we can all get started, with minimal delay (and I'll send him the login info).
-
Good morning. I got on the couch managers sight. Not sure how to transfer my team to it. I will be in and out today. I have a funeral at 1:00 and I have to feed the family afterwards.

Still missing Fideliio, Seatown, and Shocknawe, I think..
-
Reminder for everyone to join! We’ll shoot to start on Sunday at, say, 1 PM ET (and since it’s a long auction, we don’t all have to be present to start - as long as we’ve all joined the auction!)
-
I’m fine with Sunday
-
Alright all, this is the link to the draft: https://www.couchmanagers.com/auctions/?auction_id=152. The password is 772! (including the exclamation mark). I realize posting the password isn't the safest way to prevent unauthorized entry, but you can all message me separately if an imposter registers as your team. The next step is for everyone to enter the auction and join as your team. Then I'll upload your keepers to your roster.

I am good with the slow draft starting on the 20th as well.

I'm OK with the slow draft and starting on March 20th!
-
Sunday the 20th would be great.
-
Sunday works for me!
-
Ugh!! That was an inopportune typo. I meant to say: ideally we’ll get started this Sunday, MARCH 20th. Again, let me know if that’s too soon for anyone!
-
Hi all, I’ll be setting up a slow draft like we did last year, on CouchManagers. (I forgot to cancel my subscription and have dutifully PayPal-ed $3 a month for that 2000s-era service!) Details to come on that. Ideally, we can get started on Sunday, March 26, which should give us enough time before opening today, while allowing a bit more time to figure out where everyone is playing / which players got into serious accidents during the lockout. Let me know if that is too soon for anyone!
-
What’s the word on our draft? I need some advance notice so I can work around my schedule.

Hi all!! Seatown submitted eight players to cut. I cut six without penalty (the most expensive ones). But I cut Kyle Seager and Greg Holland with a cap penalty. Both were cheap, so the financial penalty is only about $6. But Seatown will now have to follow Greg Holland's free agency, an unenviable fate. (This announcement doubles as a PSA that Kyle Seager is retired.)
-
I made my last post prior to seeing the most recent ones by the commissioner……the “penalties” seem light to me, but I’m not the commissioner, so it’s not my call. No more comments from this peanut gallery. Let’s hope the seaso get’s underway soon!

I agree there has been no advantage YET, nor not likely in the very near future, but stand by the belief that there should be a deadline because the longer we wait, the more likely he MAY gain an advantage. If you give him 10 cuts, it won’t be difficult to get under the cap without any real penalty, so what is the penalty? As has been pointed out, without one the deadline we have in place becomes meaningless.

Hear ye, hear ye! Seatown will send me a list of cuts he wants to make. I'll make most of the cuts without penalty, but I'll cut a player or two with a cap penalty, chosen arbitrarily, in my infinite wisdom. If I choose a player likely to be redrafted, the penalty will essentially be temporary. If I choose a terrible (or retired) player, the penalty could carry through the season! Lo, what spectre looms on Seatown's roster, to torment him? No one knows!
-
With no CBA in the near future, no free agency moves and no spring training info, I'm not sure of the big advantage SeaTown is getting so far. But I'm OK for enforcing some penalty for missing the deadline, so I'd give him 10 free cuts. I think it's reasonable for him to get under the cap easily, giving him some leeway on how to build his roster but still penalizing him on how many guys can be freely cut.
-
……Maybe the rest of the league gets to vote on who he has to drop. LOL. 😂

Given that SeaTown is over the salary cap, I think he should be required to pare down his roster to get under the $400 cap, but there should be limits as to how many cuts can be made. Further, there should be a deadline for accomplishing this. The longer he waits, the more likely he becomes privy to info which affects his decisions, giving him a competitive advantage over the rest of us.

I totally understand there should be some penalty.

I'm with Schrute with my ambivalence. I can respect any decision here. It certainly seems that this being the second year is an extenuating circumstance though. I like the idea of a certain number (or dollar amount) of cuts. The deadline is a deadline for a reason. If it's not enforced there's really no point to it.

I has something personal come up that I recently messaged the commissioner about. I will be an active owner this year. My apologies fellas!

That may depend on whether “any” amount of engagement (even a little) is valuable to the league. I tend to think so, but others may fairly think otherwise. I view WSOT more recreationally and am willing to give a less-active owner some leeway, but I respect the opposite opinion. Especially since this is the 2nd time, maybe splitting the difference and allowing a few free cuts (say, 5?) with the rest being penalized would be a compromise?

I don’t think concerns about “engagement” are terribly relevant for this owner. Cuts should incur penalties at this point in the season.
-
When Seatown missed the cut deadline last year, I reached out and made a few cap-penalty-free cuts. I didn't really set up a clear system of penalties for missing the deadline at the time. It's an awkward enforcement issue - if the penalty is harsh, it discourages engagement over the season. If Seatown reaches out again (preferably soon), I'd be comfortable making some cuts again, but absent intervention, all the regular cap penalties apply...
-
Woah, that sucks

Assuming they’re keeping the team: they have to work with the commissioner to make their roster valid. They’d incur penalties for these cuts. I think they’re ineligible to join the draft as a consequence for missing the deadline, too.
-
What happens to teams who after the keeper deadline are still over $400 salary cap and/or 40 player limit?

I'm sorry I have not been active in the past months, but i'm definitely in and will be more involved now, even though the lockout seems to not be over :) I'll go over my team this weekend and try to answer trades and interest from my fellow league members. Hope y'all doing well otherwise.

For that matter, the commissioner has been rather silent, as well.
