lol. theres a badge for that in points; https://community.ottoneu.com/t/ice-cold-badge/2297 ; 5x5 should have some sort of similar. pure zeros is pretty hard. i enjoy the nights when my team is 30+ AB and under .100 average, get to take hacks at an imaginary water cooler..
-
Feels like every night sometimes
-
Last night before I went to bed, my team had zero runs, homers, RBIs, and steals in 30+ ABs. This morning I discovered that Hanger scored a run and Freeman got a RBI. I wondered if anyone has had a full lineup platinum wipeout before.

Didn’t expect this in $250 league. But good luck on your rebuilds
-
Shoulda bid more ... knew Cosby was going big.

Depends if Yamamoto blows his elbow out tonight
-
Any hints Cos?
-
Fun stuff. I’ll get legal late tonight or first thing tomorrow
-
Alright, thank you to everyone that voiced their opinion and voted. Based on the results we are going to go with option #2. When an auction ends, you'll have 24 hours to get your lineup legal or you'll lose the player that put you over.
-
A gift from above
-
Omg the Nola claim…Christmas comes early for Cosby…

Voting 2
-
Ok, clear. Gonna be a bloodbath
-
You’d need to cut enough salary to get under the cap within 24 hours of winning the auction. The point of it being you can’t cut 1 player and wait for them to be re-auctioned.
-
OK so even if players we cut after winning Acuna are claimed it wouldn't happen in time to make your roster legal
-
TCB and WOGAFOI are interpreting correctly.
-
Yeah I think the whole point of option 2, is that it forces the winning team to make the cuts to fit Acuña on their roster without the assistance of league members freeing up salary via auctions.
-
Meaning that if option 2 is chosen, Acuna would be cut from your team at 10:48 AM tomorrow even if auctions end one day later that would make your roster legal.
-
Legal means you can set lineups is my understanding. So until the salary penalty is removed the roster is illegal.
-
Quick clarifying question, if an auction is started within the 24 hour window that would make a team legal, is that sufficient? Even though it would take 48 hours to complete?
-
option 1
-
I vote Option 2

I vote for 2 -24 h

So the 2 options we have right now are: 1- leave as is and let the roster lock run its course and 2- 24 hour time limit to get legal or lose the FA that put you over. Please vote, majority wins. Acuna’s auction ends Friday morning so I’ll give an 9pm eastern time Thursday night deadline to cast your vote. Thanks!
-
Yes, also happy with whatever direction you take commish, just wanted clarity. As I think most of us would prefer to cut as few people as possible to get legal :)
-
I do see the roster lock as a sufficient penalty but I don’t have that strong view on it. Most important thing is just having a rule that everyone is clear on, I’m fine with whatever direction we want to go.
-
If you were prepared for your roster to be frozen, you could set your lineup 3,4,5 days out, so the existing penalties are not necessarily sufficient. It's a tricky balance between an owner hasn't checked his team for the day vs. is intentionally stalling. I think the grey area would be waiting for their cut players on waivers to be claimed. I'm good either way on that. But if you need players to be claimed off waivers, and they aren't, you would need to get legal quickly in my humble opinion.
-
That’s the point of the 24 hour limit, you’d have to drop more than one high priced player to be legal. Open to other ideas as well. Thanks for your input Cosby!
-
No one would get legal in 24 hours, auctions take 48 hours. Regardless I agree it would be good to have clarity before the end of the acuna auction. I’m open to whatever is decided of course.
-
My thought for what happens if you don’t get legal in the 24 hour timeframe would be a force drop of the player that caused the illegal lineup. Thoughts on this as well?
-
I’ve been in ottoneu for years and this comes up from time to time. My personal thought is that as long as there’s a clear view of roster getting legal the built in penalties are sufficient. My limited experience as commissioner I tried to have the league vote on grey areas like this, but I’m not commish here so I’ll leave it up to you
-
Totally understandable, a strategy to counter that would be wait for the 24 hours to pass before re-nominating the dropped player.
-
I would say waiting 24 for claims is fine but sitting on your hands waiting for players to get reauctioned is too much but that’s just based on personal preference. This is a big money league so I’m more concerned with managers leveraging an illegal roster for future gains than I otherwise would be.
-
That is a great question PP and we haven’t really had to address it until now. Ottoneu says no team shall willingly go over the salary limit and it’s up to the commish to determine penalties. I’m not the unilateral type so I’d like to hear from everyone. I’d say you have 24 hours to get right but open to other ideas. We are in a time crunch due to a certain FA so please chime in soon.
-
(Asking for a friend)
-
Commish what's the league policy on how long you have to get legal. For example, do you need to be legal right away or can you wait for your players to pass through waivers/get re-nominated, etc.
-
YOLO
-
TEB you wild man. Bout to be chaos up in these streets.
-
It’s funny how close the shave can be. It’s pretty cool how well opl counterbalances original ottoneu, but agree with all you definitely sacrifice. Potent portables ur on the right track for a hack lol. Not always enough time amirite, enjoy
-
Yeah no OPL for me this year either. Tried it out last year and I think it’s a fun concept, but the short-term nature of the competition requires me to manage my roster in a way that is at odds with my approach to Ottoneu leagues.
-
Ha…I learned my lesson with OPL last year.
-
Feel like I need to join a $20 league just to compete in OPL. Hard to compete in OPL when you are (1) playing roto vs points (2) playing in a more competitive league (3) stashing any injured guys/prospects
-
Good luck guys . Re opl I was strongly looking at joining opl here, but after the draft and knowing there are so many tough managers here and some prize considerations , thought it was best for me to stay focused on just here. Looking forward to beating you guys with other entries though :)))) glgl
-
Just a reminder yall that this league is OPL eligible if you finished 6th or better in 2023! Read more and join here: https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/opl/
One of my favorite new additions to Ottoneu.
